Though it brings a tear to my eye I need to sell my sports car, as I am downsizing my life in preparation for grad school. The exterior color is called Carbon Black Metallic, which looks more like very deep blue than black; the interior is a vibrant pumpkin colored leather (the picture is the back seat is closest, the others look more orange than it does in person). The E46 M3 is equipped with the S54 naturally aspirated (no turbo or supercharger) 3.2 liter straight 6 cylinder that produces 333-hp at 7900 rpm; this motor is a serious rev monster and the lack of a turbo means the throttle is responsive and the power immediate throughout the entire RPM range. That combined with the relatively tight stock suspension and the rear wheel drive make this car a blast to drive, with twisty roads a particular pleasure. The transmission is the SMG II auto-manual with the shifting controllable from both the steering wheel paddles and the center console lever. The SMG is not quite a manual and not quite an automatic, and it honestly has a bit of a learning curve to use well. Some people really miss the feel of rowing the gears but having driven both I personally prefer the SMG. When you get used to it curves can be more fun, as the rev-matched downshift with a flick of the paddle lets you focus on your line and throttle control instead of shifting. It has 64K miles and has the following stock options: - Harmon-Kardon sound system - Steering wheel controls for cruise and radio - Xenon headlights - 19” alloy rims - Nappa valley leather interior - Power glass moon roof - Aluminum interior trim - Parking distance sensors (backup warning) - 8 position heated front seats with driver memory - Bluetooth & phone - Retractable headlight washers - Ski bag in bag seat - BMW assist system w/ Mic The car has the following aftermarket additions: - Thule Aeroblade cargo bars and bicycle carrier - Aluminum paddle shifters - Simplicity iPod controller (works with the steering wheel controls) - High capacity aluminum radiator with electric fan - “Smoked” fog lights w/ blue HID lights (HID included but not installed) - LED side marker lights The tires were new at 45k miles and the front right replaced 300 miles ago. The car has had all scheduled maintenance including valve adjustment and differential oil change. The rear calipers were replaced last year and the front calipers this year. The oil was changed 200 miles ago (all oil changes were done using the recommended synthetic 10w-60) and the brakes are new Hawk HPS pads. The visible marks I can find are a missing bit from the guard on the front bottom radiator (victim of tumble weed), some bubbling of the paint on the driver side mirror mount, some bubbling of the plastic at the very bottom of the gearshift cover, and the rims are have some curb marks. I think it's fair considering I searched the 'sold' listings for similar, and on the trader site similar 'asking' prices are 17K+. I just don't have the Luxury of proper storage to let it sit until it sells. This was my boss's car. Between the two of us it's been 'in the family' since 2008. The 83,000 miles last reported on the carfax was him transfering the title over to me. He didn't know the mileage exactly so estimated, it actually had 83,750. The 300+ since is me since the rebuild driving it Easy for the break-in period, nothing over 3000 Rpm is a must, and that's why I say the oil needs to be changed at 84,750. What happened? He broke it. Missed a shift from 3rd to 4th, putting it in second and said it just shut down. Well, the engine was done, according to the local BMW shop he towed it to, and they gave him some crazy estimate and offered to buy it from him. I just offered him more..... If I was rebuilding it (the engine) just to flip this car, I would have saved alot of time, research, and labor by just buying a used engine and swapping it out..... Now, there lies the dilemma. I'm building this for keeps, so where are you going to find one of these S50 engines w/ 85K or less (or believe someone claiming it w/ no evidence to back it up?). Only way to be sure, start from scratch. Anyone who follows these cars knows the S50 is basically a hopped up M50, bored, stroked, and cammed for one year here in the U.S. before OBDII went into effect in 1996 and BMW had to change everything. Instead of paying thousands for an engine I really know nothing about, I'm investing maybe just a little more for one I know everything about. That's a no-brainer for those of us fortunate enough to have the knowledge, tools and resources to handle such a project. The breakdown: Bought a 2.5L and tore it down to the bare block. Had Sigafoos Machine in Easton do the block work, bore to 3.0L spec and all. Sourced and bought a good rotating assembly and installed New rings. Bought reconditioned Head and swapped over S50 cams, trays, and (here's the part where I'm proud of myself for catching)--- Springs! Everybody says the heads are the same, just swap the cams.... not quite. S50 cams have higher lift which requires higher rate springs. The S50 redline comes on full between 7000 & 8000 RPM's, the standard 325i comes on full at about 6300 RPM's. Why? VALVE SPRINGS. Just another reason why you can't believe everything you read on Google. Anybody who's ever done these heads without addressing the springs would be killing the powerband these cams make and probably experience valve float before the redline! It's easy to forget them because it's quite a chore to R&R them with the way they're recessed into the heads, special tools required.....Assembled everything to spec. and running break-in oil right now w/ high Zinc additives. Wasn't happy w/ the way the clutch disc looked so I put the whole kit in while I was at it, Pressure Plate, Disc, Throwout Bearing, and since it's a manual needed the Pilot bearing as well. Did have request for more specific pictures but have limits, so I will try to swap some of the more important ones up tomorrow like the Driver's bolster is apparently a legitimate concern. Thanks! I replaced the engine oil at twice the recommend service interval - about every 6-7k miles. Full BMW Inspection II with valve adjustment at 120K miles in September 2013. Considerable service history with the car. Full set of factory manuals. Happy to take pictures or provide pictures of anything on the car. Being honest and straight-forward in my description. This car look good - but it's not perfect and I've tried to detail noticeable defects. If you want to have the car inspected locally at your expense, I will work with you to make that happen.
