For sale is a head-turning, 1997 BMW 850CI that’s been a part of my family since its purchase as a new car from the dealer in 1998. My father bought it as a 2nd car and he used it sparingly. my family gifted the car to me in late 2015. I had all the rubber parts replaced (belts, hoses, tires) as well as the fluids, along with whatever else I felt I needed (like a new A/C filter, mats, and batteries, of which the car requires two). I’m selling it because although I love driving the 850 – it handles like a honey – I prefer to be in something bigger and less sporty so I just bought a Town Car. The BMW 850CI has 44,456 original miles on it, and it’s never left Southern California so it’s never been exposed to extreme weather conditions. Or exposed to cigarettes, heavy perfumes, or food. This car is considered a collectible: Spanning all versions of the 850 during its 10-year production, BMW sold only 4,782 of them to the North America market including Canada, and 22,800 were sold worldwide, including those sold in North America. If you’re viewing this ad, I assume you’re familiar with the BMW 850CI and how it handles and the long list of features it has so I’m just going to give you the status of the car and its functionality. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. It’s mechanically sound - no leaks or error codes. Engine is strong and transmission shifts smoothly. It has automatic transmission with Steptronic (manual mode). All power options work well including windows, locks, mirrors, seats, sunroof, and headlamps. (I replaced the headlamp bulbs as well as the assemblies so they’d shine bright on the road at night.) The interior leather, carpet, and dash are clean with no cracks or tears. The leather on the driver’s seat shows some wear. The car has heated seats (two settings), a specially designed A/C and heating system which blows super cold and comfortibly warm, respectively, and the original cradle for a “car phone”. The radio works and has 12 FM presets and 6 AM presets and a weather bureau station, an operational 6-CD changer, and an operational cassette tape player. Headliner has been professionally replaced. Again, since I assume you’re familiar with the extensive comfort features the car has, I’ll give you two examples not highlighted on a list of options found on the internet: 1) All windows roll down with a single touch of each button, and both the front windows roll up with a single touch of each button. 2) The heating/A/C system is set up so if it detects the small particle pollution reaching a certain level outside, the system switches from taking in air from the outside to using circulatory air, AND it uses a special HEPA filter which I’ve had replaced. It seems like BMW thought of everything when they produced the 850. The car has never been in an accident and has a clean title. The passenger side panel was repaired back in the day because my father got too close to the side of the garage while backing out. The repair was beautifully done. The car has three known minor exterior blemishes. The first is on the passenger side bottom rocker: Soon after purchase, freeway rocks scraped off the paint in the area. It measures 22cm x 2.5cm. There was a small touch up done. 2nd, the windshield has 2 tiny chips. One chip measures 5 x 5mm and the other measures 3 x 1mm. They’ve never gotten bigger. Third. a car parked next to mine, left a slight indentation and a mark on the driver’s side rear panel. The indent measures 19cm long and the mark superimposed on it measures 21.5cm long. Some of the lights on the on-board computer don’t work but the computer has full functionality; and There are a few marks on the side of the driver’s seat back. I will provide the car’s CarFax report upon request. The car comes with the original manuals and associated information in the original zippered BMW case, in addition to three key fobs and one valet key. This automobile is sold as is. This is my beautiful Ms. Violetta, but is known and has been called "Purple Haze." This car is in excellent condition with very low miles. It is ONE of only ONE. At one of the BMW 8 series festivities I was told by one of the US BMW registry officials that Ms. Violetta is the ONLY one of her kind in the world. It is the perfect investment for a BMW collector. It was specially ordered with the Daytona Violet Exterior paint with Daytona Violet and Lotus White leather interior. Originally ordered from BMW of Palm Springs, Ca. BMW only produced approximately 1500 BMW 850 CSi's worldwide. Of those only approximately 225 where imported to North America. BUT, only one came in Daytona Violet!!! The car's history is well documented on the net... The buyer can pick which set of wheels preferred: Original BMW 18" Alpina wheels, pictured in a couple of the photos of the car Original BMW CSi 17" "Throwing stars" which have been powdered coated and mounted on a new set of Dunlop tires. The 850CSi used the same engine as the 850i, which was tuned so significantly that BMW assigned it a new engine code: S70B56. The modifications included a capacity increase to 5.6 liters and power increase to 380 PS (279 kW; 375 hp). The 850CSi's modified suspension included, stiffer springs and dampers which reduced the car's ride height. The recirculating ball steering ratio was dropped 15% over the stock E31 setup. The model also sported staggered throwing star wheels. The front and rear bumpers were reshaped for improved aerodynamic performance. Four round stainless steel exhaust tips replaced the square tips found on other models. The 6-speed manual gearbox was the only transmission option. In Europe all 850CSi's came with four-wheel steering (AHK - Aktive Hinterachs-Kinematik, Active rear axle Kinematics) , Floating front brake discs, rear differential oil cooler, engine oil cooler and sports seats. Production ended in late 1996 because the S70 engine could not be modified to comply with new emission regulations without substantial re-engineering.

Here is a chance to build a BMW 850 the way you would like it. We have owned this car for about 10 years and we were devastated when the engine clattered to a stop. It was always an incredible driving experience. Even though this is a 25 year old design it is still a head turner. Just read the comments from other sellers. Rather than fix the engine I wanted to fit the later 5.4 liter engine. I had read it was a much improved design. Now my plans have changed and the car is for sale. You will see many 5.0 and 5.4 engines for sale here on ebay and not expensive for an exotic V12. Alternatively almost any engine could be fitted. This car would be a perfect candidate for a big horsepower engine as it car has the suspension, brakes and aerodynamics to handle any power. It could be truly unique and not just another cookie-cutter hot rod. Body is straight but the clear coat is failing on the original paint. This color was the classy choice 20+ years ago but I think would look killer with a modern touch. Again it's your choice to make it just as you would want it. Interior is still looking good, a really comfortable 4 seater GT. No problems with the electrics as some of these cars had although some of the pixels are bad on the display.
