It is time to part with my 2003 E39 540i M-Technic with the 6 speed manual transmission. This particular model was only made one year. It has the M5 body panels, suspension, and 18" staggered low profile rims, but without all of the maintenance headaches of the M5. At around 300hp with loads of torque, it is a blast to drive. This is a great article about these cars: http://carbuying.jalopnik.com/four-reasons-why-you-need-to-buy-a-bmw-e39-540i-right-n-1659284463 Here are the details:Silver w/ grey interior138,500 milesIce cold ACDecent tiresRuns strong - very reliableTransmission shifts smoothlyAux cord option installed on factory radio for iPhone hookupI have addressed most of the common issues with this car. I didn't get to the pixel repair on the radio, so it is missing probably 1/4 of the pixels. You can still read the screen and the radio works as it should. It has a small crack in the rear bumper cover which is visible in the pics. I have owned the car for four years and I bought it in 2011 sight-unseen from a guy in Greensboro, NC. It had 109K miles and I had it inspected by Carr Industries, who is one of the most knowledgeable BMW mechanics I have ever met. He went through every system on the car and recommended a few minor repairs, which I had him do, but gave it the thumbs-up and said it was well maintained. I do not have full service records from before I bought it. The radiator and entire cooling system has been replaced. I also replaced a few coils, two of the window regulators, the lower timing chain tensioner, upper control arms, PCV valve, valve cover gaskets, and the power steering reservoir. Like virtually all BMW V8's, it has a couple of small oil leaks, but nothing that ever worried me. It has never needed a quart between oil changes and that hasn't changed in the last year or so. The Vanos has not been replaced and it has the same clutch in it that it had when I bought it. Aside from that, it is a solid example of these increasingly rare and collectible cars. There are five of these for sale on eBay now in the country (true M-Technic with M5 body trim and suspension and NOT the more common and cheaper M-Sport) and the least expensive one is $16,950. This one needs a little to be as nice as the ones on eBay, but at less than half the price. The E39 is the best 5 series ever and this particular model is the holy grail of E39's. Only 600 or so with the 6 speed were ever made. It is an absolute blast to drive and I am going to miss this car, but I had to get an SUV for work. The car is in Birmingham, AL and after receipt of full payment I will be happy to work with your transport company to arrange pickup. Feel free to ask questions. I want to see this car go to an E39 enthusiast who will appreciate it and I'll answer any and all questions honestly.
