Volvo : XC70 Cross Country Running but needs work!

Here's a running car w 152k miles. Transmission was replaced by dealer at 55k miles. ($3600) Just put in 5 new ignition coils ($600) and discovered a valve is burnt - #2 cyl is at 25 psi, others are normal. Don't have time or money to fix. Still runs good, plates are paid until Sept 2015 but at that point it will not smog. I have stopped driving it since I discovered the valve problem. Put in a new ECU 11-13 ($220) and 4 new Michelin tires ($600). Power steering rack was replaced at 85k ($2017) O2 sensors replaced. New Gel Battery ($200) in 12-11. Has new car cover, only 3 months old ($248). Interior -seats are dried up but not too bad, but carpets are gone, new dash cover was installed, dash is good. Exterior good, some minor dents, see photos. If you have a XC w a dead tranny, buy this car, do the swap, and part the rest of it out. Or swap your good head onto this engine! These are also known as “Cross Country” wagons. Roomy and comfortable, this vehicle is equipped with the highly sought 2.4 L DOHC 5-cylinder turbo teamed with the 5-speed automatic Asin-Warner (AW55) transaxle. Topping all of this off, it is ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD). Don’t be confused between the XC70 and the V70. Only the XC70 is all-wheel-drive. This vehicle came available and we purchased it. This vehicle is very clean and cared for. But, of course, you expect vehicles this nice from Grove Automotive Group, Inc.! Options: Finished in burgundy with a tan colored upholstery, this CLEAN 2002 Volvo XC70 AWD features about everything that you expect in this Swedish luxury wagon beginning with the smooth and responsive 2.4 L DOHC 5-cylinder turbo teamed with the 5-speed automatic Asin-Warner (AW55) transaxle, driver, passenger, side and roof SRS (air bags), electronically controlled ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD), automatic climate control featuring a factory R134a refrigerant charge, 4-wheel ABS (anti-lock brakes), Volvo’s own SIPS (Side Impact Protection System), factory sunroof, power windows, central locking system, power mirrors, power seats, factory alloy wheels, factory sound system, 4-wheel disc brakes, cruise control, rear window defroster, folding rear seats, driver’s information center, service reminder system, factory security system, and much more! Yet ANOTHER Clean Southern Ride! This vehicle is riding on a BRAND NEW set of Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring™ tires! Service and Inspection Report: We brought this nice XC70 in for service and found things in very good order. There were a few things in need of attention to bring it up to our standards. For starters, we did an oil/filter change, installing a correct aluminum sealing washer on the drain plug. We also installed a new seal on the oil cap since the original had become hard and brittle. Volvo allows you to service the seal separately from the cap. Continuing under the hood, we decided to install a NEW TIMING BELT that included belt, tensioner and idler pulley. We couldn’t determine if the belt had been changed, so, as usual, we installed a new one for you. We always replace spark plugs using Denso™ brand when doing timing belts on Volvo vehicles and those are new, as well. While servicing the timing belt, we noted that the lower outer motor mount was in need of replacement so we installed a new one. Those mounts are typically good for 10 years or so and rather than “let ‘er go” like most dealers, we put the new part in for you. Using our Snap-On Solus® diagnostic scanner, we noticed some shift solenoid codes which are common on the early AW-55 transmission. What happens is that the electronic shift solenoids stick and the shift quality is not as good as when new. However, the transmissions in these vehicles can go a long time with service. So, we replaced the electronic shift solenoids in the valve body and did a complete transmission fluid change using the correct Mobile 3309 fluid. This procedure took care of the codes, and now shifts as designed. Finishing up under the hood, we installed new hood lift struts since those kept the hood open, but in cold weather we had our doubts. Also, we inspected the air filter and vacuumed out the air intake box. Those tend to accumulate debris like leaves and sand, so we cleaned that out for you. Looking over the chassis, the brakes looked good, both front and rear. We did notice some noise coming from the suspension so we installed new upper strut mounts, spring seat isolators and sway bar bushings. Now, it is very tight. Going over the climate control system, everything seemed to be in good order. We changed the cabin air filter for you. Finishing up, we installed new wiper blades, front and rear. Shop around and then ADD IT UP! Why buy one that needs work? How much will that cost you in addition to the car itself?
