Offered to you: 1992 Volvo 240 Wagon *SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED*I am sad to report that my beloved winter car, this classic 245, has just become inoperable due to a bad transmission. I recently discovered a transmission leak which was likely occurring for quite a while and went unnoticed due to my driveway being dirt/gravel. Once it started slipping, I added fluid and Lucas additive but a week and a half later I found myself on the side of the road with no Drive or Reverse. I unfortunately do not have the funds, knowledge or space to take on this repair so I am forced to get the summer car out of storage and offer this old gal up for sale. Many good parts to help your project along OR could be a good candidate to swap a transmission. The Rundown:•Automatic transmission is shot. Still goes to Neutral and will roll. •230,000 miles and still runs strong. No check engine light.•Inspection good until the end of this month. Recently fixed a taillight grounding issue so it should pass inspection again fine. •4 good winter tires on stock steel wheels. 2 additional steelies included without tires.•Driver seat is torn up but the rest of the interior is good, backseats in great shape. Map pocket/door plastic is broken per usual. Glovebox does not close.•Brand new battery replaced at the beginning of December. Also just replaced the wipers 2 days before it died :(•Third brake light and rear wiper work intermittently due to a wiring or grounding issue•Aftermarket CD player, though I think one or two of the speakers may be blown•Heater just recently started making an awful noise but still blows hot (eventually). No AC though.•Might be a leak somewhere on the exhaust as it has been louder this year than previous•Brakes were done last winter. Full tune up done 2 winters ago. Newer alternator. Have full service records from previous owner.•Dent above passenger headlight from rolling into a Jeep's rear tire. The turn signal had a clean snap from a mounting point but I was able to superglue back on fine until just recently when I knocked it out again when changing the headlight bulb. Held on with ductape for now but it will epoxy back on easily. If you're still reading even after that list of quirks, you must really be a fan of these old Volvos. I am too, I get it! So here's the stuff that you hardcore people really want to know: RUST. Overall, the body is in pretty good condition aside from paint fading on the roof and hood. Just a spot of rust on one of the wheel arches; the most rust is along the bottom rockers where the trim is missing. Underneath is still solid at the mounting points but there is visible rust along the sides. Now that I've had a look at it, the exhaust doesn't look like its in the best shape. With all that being said, this car is not at scrap-worthy levels of rust. A Volvo specialist had it up in the air and said it was in better shape than the vast majority of the 240s he sees these days. FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE:As mentioned, the car starts and rolls fine but does not have Drive or Reverse. I can have it towed to you, anywhere within 15 miles of Littleton MA, once a deal has been struck. For those not local, I'll help figure out logistics for delivery AT YOUR EXPENSE.I am aware that it might not be worth most people to fix the car and it might be better off for parts. I'm not looking to part it out myself, but you're welcome to do with it what you will after you buy! But, if you've got the ability to swap the transmission yourself, this car could continue to serve your winter needs as it has mine for the last 3 years.
