1978 Volvo 242GT - Very rare model. The car is originally from New Mexico so the body is solid, but it needs paint. I HAVE THE STRIPE KIT!!! HD sway bars. Runs well. The seats are in excellent condition, but have been recovered, probably the only hurdle to a completely original GT. Needs tires for a long trip. As seen in the pictures I have a set of late 240 wheels/tires I can throw in if you need to get it home. Comes with the original GT wheels. Comes with a trunk full of parts. This price is as low as I will go. Otherwise I'll get to work on it and sell it finished for twice this price. Again, price is firm.

Hello and Thanks for looking at my Volvo. I know that I am going to regret selling this car. But I have started a TR6 project and need the garage space. This is a super straight rust free California Volvo GT. It has never been in an accident and has an extremely nice respray over its original paint. At the time of the paint job, the doors, hood, glass, trunk-lid and glass were removed. The factory stripes have been correctly reapplied. The bumpers, trim and moldings have been replaced or refinished. It has a new windshield and seal. The car currently has an early GT front spoiler installed which I prefer. I have the correct 1980 spoiler that will be included in the sale. The car looks fantastic and can be shown or enjoyed. Your choice. It has cold A/C and a nice period correct radio. It has a very nice, rebuilt GT instrument panel with LED lighting. Everything works as it should, Headlights, fog lights, heat, A/C, wipers, radio, turn signals, sunroof (no leaks), lighter, side lights, gauges, overdrive, etc. all operate properly. The car has a new from the manifold back exhaust system. And new front struts, strut mounts and alignment as well. It leave a small oil spot from time to time that I suspect is the oil pan gasket. The car starts easily and settles into a nice idle. It accelerates, steers, shifts, stops, sounds, smells just the way Volvo intended. It has a new water pump, timing belt, fuel filter and transmission service within the last 3000 miles. It is a pleasure to drive and could easily make it from coast to coast. The wheels shown in the pictures are new Lenso 17 x 7.5 mesh with new Pirelli 225/45/17 tires and are available for and extra $800. They have no clearance issues and look fantastic. Otherwise the car will be sold with the original Volvo Virgo wheels and decent stock sized tires. The interior is extremely nice with no cuts or tears. The dash has no cracks and the car has never been smoked in. The headliner and carpeting is perfect. The passenger door latch requires a little more effort than is standard and could use an adjustment. Additionally, the driver's window regulator has a vibration as the window goes up and down. It functions fine but I have a new regulator to be installed at some point. I have a lot of receipts going back to the original bill of sale from VIP Motorcars in Palm Springs California dated 9/27/80. As well as the original owners manual. These cars are getting very difficult to find. One in this condition is rare. Low miles, accident free, no rust, perfect paint, original unmodified. My asking price is very reasonable. Hello and thank you for looking at my Volvo 242GT. This car is incredible. It spent its entire life garaged and being driven lightly in Victoria, British Columbia. I am the second owner and it is extremely original. Never in an accident and never any rust problems. This car is laser straight and has its original paint. The dash is flawless and it drives perfectly. With only 72,900 verified miles on the odometer, it is barely broken in. It starts, stops, steers, accelerates, sounds and smells exactly the way Volvo intended. The engine starts easily in hot or cold weather and settles into a nice idle. The spare tire has never touched the pavement. This car is 100% complete and never modified in any way. The speedometer/odometer are in kilometers which is why it shows 117,000. This car is extremely reliable. It had a new timing belt installed 1,000 miles ago. The tires and brakes are excellent. I have driven a lot and it is a pleasure to drive. The overdrive works perfectly. The silver paint is starting to become a little thin but it still looks very nice. It does not need new paint. The upholstery shows no signs of wear but has started to come a little loose. Fairly common. The carpets are perfect. The car has never been smoked in. All lights, turn signals, blower motor, clock, wipers, gauges and radio work as they are supposed to. The sunroof is adjusted properly, works correctly and does not leak. There are no drips under the car. The engine compartment is very clean as is the trunk. The underside is 100% solid. These cars are quite rare as they were a limited edition built only in 1978, 1979, and 1980. This is your chance to own an extremely collectible Volvo that is a super nice, unrestored example. I am only selling because of financial reasons. This is a car that I would like to keep forever. Feel free to come for a personal inspection or have a third party do so.
