After test driving this custom Beetle it was apparent that the builder and previous owner had spent plenty of time and money on this cool ride. It fires up quickly, drives with plenty of power and all features are working. It shifts thru the gears with ease and brakes straight with no flaws. The car was treated to a full frame off restoration starting in 2003. The car was sandblasted and stripped of all trim and moldings then brought back to life in a stellar Mosaic Blue paint job that is quite stunning and shows off the car very nicely. Engine was completely rebuilt and many components replaced with new features. Brand new transmission was installed and new MSD ignition was installed. New exhaust was fitted with twin tip exhaust and mufflers. Just over 28,000 original miles and located near Milford, MI. Very honest car - looks good and runs great. The pictures speak for themselves. Car is mechanically very strong and condition of the paint, interior, top, underside and engine compartment all support mileage as shown. No engine or transmission leaks and no know accidents based on info from previous owner. Paint is real nice - no noticeable evidence of over-spray, so I am not sure if it is original paint or not. Engine compartment is super clean. Floor pans and battery compartment and underside are clean. History based on previous owner - car spent 20 plus years in a dealer museum in Indiana when it was sold to a dealer in Chicago. It was then sold in locally in Illinois to a gentleman that gifted it to his girlfriend in Battle Creek, Michigan. This is where I bought the car 2 years ago. I am not an expert in these cars - but I believe the tires to be original or at least from the era. Everything works as it should and is in very good condition. There are a couple minor stone chips as expected and one of the rear inside quarter window rubber seals has a small tear. Top is original and has a small blemish (not hole) which is also hard to see. The best part of the car is how it drives and handles for its age. Still tight and engine runs great. I have two sets of original VW keys (both glove box and ignition), manual, warranty book and tool kit (which I purchased) that will go along with the car along with some odds and ends. I also have two original advertisements from the time the car was marketed which I will included. This is a very honest car - not concourse, but very nice. The mileage is just over 28000 and based on what I have been told and the way she looks - I believe it to be original. Its summer and someone should enjoy the car. The body was removed from the chassis, disassembled, and was completely refinished inside and out. It is the correct L32K paint code called Phoenix Red, marketed in Love Bug advertising as "red hot red", but is actually bright orange in color. Exterior basecoat/clearcoat has been wet sanded and buffed to show car quality. All exterior trim has been restored and refinished in the correct Love Bug satin black. While the body was removed the chassis was completely disassembled and sand blasted. Both floor pans were correctly replaced as well as the front frame head lower plate. The front axle beam was replaced with a VW OEM adjustable unit and rebuilt with all new parts. The car is lowered about 2 inches and has an oversize sway bar and KYB gas shocks at all four corners that work well with the lowered stance. The complete brake system is new including stainless steel brake lines. The engine is a stock 1600 dual port. It is a correct 1974 "AH" block but is not original to this car. It runs perfectly with no leaks of oil, exhaust, or compression. Various upgrades have been recently made including new carburetor, electronic ignition, aluminum valve covers, and full ceramic coated Eurosport exhaust including heater box elimination pipes. Original troublesome factory heating system has been removed to improve engine cooling, boost performance, and to help prevent common rocker panel rust issues. Cars restored to this level are typically only out on the nicest of days so heat should not be needed. The original transaxle shifts smoothly, doesn't leak, and oil has been changed to synthetic fluid. New mounts and new axle assemblies installed. Interior has new TMI full carpet with Dyna-mat underlayment, carpeted trunk and custom carpeted rear shelf. Seat upholstery has been replaced with original style black covers. Later model VW leather wrapped steering wheel and new Retrosound stereo system. This rare car runs, drives, looks, and sounds better than new. The attention to detail of the restoration rivals other Beetles listed and the documentation is very unique. . Factory manual accompanies the vehicle and shows original owner Martha Lackey taking delivery on August 7th 1974 from Walker Volkswagen in Cape Cod - original dealer sticker preserved. We were told that this VW was originally purchased in Plattsburgh, NY by a gentleman in the service for his wife. Original owners manual and ID card are included. They had the car from new for over 30 years and it was a well cared for vehicle that was garaged and not used in winters. The car was originally red color. The next owner used the car for a number of years and restored it about six years ago. The car was properly disassembled for painting and had all new weatherstripping and fender beading and painted Peru Green as shown in the photos. This is a 1969 original color but it was not available on the convertibles originally. It is an extremely clean and well-running Beetle and we have loved it for every minute and it is ready for its new home. Engine and mechanical summary : The VW starts and runs extremely well. We have never had any major issues and have always marveled just how well and reliably it has run. It has a 1500 cc VW engine that is a 1969 serial number. I was told that the engine had been rebuilt and it runs excellent. Both red indicator lights show a working generator and adequate oil pressure. Engine cylinder compression is 110 lbs. per cylinder. Clutch is smooth and sure and transmission shifts smoothly and stays in gear properly. There is no grumbling or howling from the rear differential and the muffler and exhaust are in great shape.The brakes are very good and the tires are like new. The body and paint are immaculate with no dents or scratches and not a speck of rust. Underbelly has no rot and heater channels are in perfect condition. Sills and wheel wells are very nice.also. The interior carpeting, seat covers door panels and top were all replaced new when restored and are perfect LN condition. There is cracking and repair of original black vinyl dash cover in the strip below the glove box. It has a Pioneer CD radio with its amplifier located in bonnet with extra speakers in back behind rear seat. We don't use the stereo much but it is nice. The VW has the original jack, tool roll and an extra fan belt under the bonnet. The car also comes with two sets of keys, a car cover, a new black top boot cover the original owners manual with original owner information, two different service related manuals and extra misc parts for oil changes etc.
