1961 Triumph TR3A Roadster British Racing Green over Biscuit! Recently restored! 4-speed overdrive! Upgraded TR3B 2138cc motor! I am very pleased to offer this late model 1961 Triumph TR3A for sale! The car is finished in a classic shade of British Racing Green over a Biscuit interior. The car is powered by a 2138cc 4 from the later TR3Bs, a healthy upgrade from the original 1,991cc engine, and a fully synchronized 4-speed manual overdrive transmission! These are features found in the later “TR3B” and may suggest that this car was something of a predecessor to that car? The car is further fitted with several nice touches, including side curtain wind wings, electric radiator cooling fan, rack-and-pinion steering and 5.5” TR6 wheels. When the Triumph TR3 first appeared, in 1955, Triumph intended not simply to update the previous TR2 but also bring the Triumph driving experience and styling into the second half of the ‘50s! Being conservative by nature, Triumph debuted the car with the TR2’s 95 horsepower 1991cc 4 cylinder motor and drive train, which was actually more than enough for a car that weighed just over 2,000 pounds. However, Triumph then launched the “TR3A” in 1957. The “TR3A” further improving the car and incorporating wider front grille and becoming the first production car to feature front disc brakes! There were just 58,236 TR3As produced, of which less than 9,500 are documented to survive today! The ultimate iteration came in 1962 with the introduction of the TR3B, which later came standard with the TR4’s 2138cc engine making 105 horsepower and 127 lb.-ft. of torque mated to a full synchromesh 4-speed manual gearbox. This is a local New Mexico TR3A that has been totally frame off reconditioned over the last two years. The car was completely dissembled and sand blasted, then any rust was removed and replaced with new/repaired sheet metal. The body is very straight with excellent fit. Complete paint in a base coat/clear coat British Racing Green was done, all rubber replaced, new wiring harness, all trim, upholstery, and carpeting was redone and a new windshield installed. Engine and gearbox plus entire drivetrain rebuilt with new aluminum radiator and electric cooling fan, brakes, exhaust, suspension etc. Restoration is not Pebble Beach quality but very good for local shows and ready to drive anywhere. Interior has all restored gauges, lights and signals functioning as they should. Soft top frame has been restored with a tonneau cover and new side curtains. New wiring harness, trim redone with new windshield. Engine and overdrive gearbox plus entire drivetrain rebuilt with new carburetors, brakes, exhaust, suspension etc. Complete paint in British Racing Green, and all new leather and trim pieces in the cabin. The car runs and drives exceptionally well thanks to a recently rebuilt motor and transmission. The car makes for a very drivable and presentable example of one of Britain’s most popular roadsters and should make the next owner extraordinarily proud both at local shows and on short road trips! We would welcome any additional questions on this TR3A. Thanks for looking! I've had lots of questions, I’ll try to answer all that I can and stick them here at the bottom for everyone. I’ve had the car since the early ‘80s. March of 1983 I think. The odometer reads 33629 and I believe that to be the correct mileage, it has not been reset and, as I say, I've owned the car since early '83. I did a top level restoration right after I originally bought the car and drove it daily until the ignition failed in ’92. It then sat for several years until I decided to do a frame off restoration in 2008 or 2009. I pulled it down and worked on the restoration, on and off, till last spring when I more or less finished. I’ve been driving it occasionally since and, at the same time, ironing out some of the residual issues from the restoration. I have several other cars I’m working on and have garage space for them all, or did have till I bought a partially restored ’56 ford pickup and now I’m stuck for a place to put it. As it happens, I like restoring these guys more than I like owning them and since this one’s now done it’s the one my wife and I think should go. That is unless one of you wants a ’59 XK150 in pieces or a ’67 retro-model jaguar MK2? Anyway, here’s a partial list of the things I’ve done to the car: Newly rebuilt 2138 cc TR4 engineNew SU carburetorsRebuilt 4 speed with overdriveNew Performance Free-Flow ExhaustAdapted 5.5” TR6 wheelsTR4 rack and pinion steeringNewly rebuilt front suspension with new bushings and bearings Front anti-sway barAluminum radiator Electric radiator fan with thermostatic switchAll new or rebuilt gaugesNew switches throughoutNew wiring harnessNew base coat/clear coat paint, British Racing GreenNew upholstery, BiscuitNew carpet in the cab and bootNewly restored convertible top frameNewly Rebuilt side curtainsNew side curtain wingsNew windshieldLots of other new or restored parts like bumpers , grill, heater core, horns, even the shift knob and leather covered steering wheel. The car comes with a convertible top and a tonneau cover. As one of you wrote, it’s a very nice car. Please feel free to bid with confidence. If you have any questions or would like additional photos please feel free to email me.

This lovely little car was purchased in Connecticut and driven to Halifax, Nova Scotia by me April 22, 2010. All purchase, customs, repair and regular maintenance records are available since that time. The overdrive is effective in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears as original and there is no synchro in 1st. The side curtains are new and the top and tonneau are like new and a small tool kit (not original) and some extra hoses and spare bonnet key are included as are new dash knobs, some of which are duplicates. A spare, in line, electric fuel pump has been installed along with a quick release battery terminal and a cigratte lighter terminal. The unit has been converted to negative ground. All chrome is either redone or replaced except for the windshield surround which has some tarnish. Wind deflectors have been installed. All lights, switches and instruments are in good working order except for the gas gauge which may read slightly high after reaching the half tank mark. The painted wire wheels are proper to the car and have good rubber attached. A good quality, fitted, car cover is included. Safety check, registration and insurance are all in order. A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust factory record is available from the owner and will be included if desired. The unit is being sold only because of lack of proper storage space and the accumulating age of the owner and I am informing fellow BATANS members prior to placing it on the international market.

A Beautiful head turner 1960 Triumph TR3A that is in great condition. It is a 2 owner and was restored prior to the current owners purchase in 1978 and it had about 500 miles on it and it now only has 1400 and some change on it so it has not been driven much but it was kept in a climate controlled garage the entire time and started up frequently to keep it up well and it starts right up and runs strong. Feel free to have a pre-purchase inspection or come take a look at it. It will not go down in value for sure. The gentleman is getting older and selling off his cars because he cannot drive them anymore. Call or email anytime with questions that you may have.my email is: [email protected] 913-908-8272 I can also assist with a shipping price as well for you too. Thank you and don't miss this one Joe

I hauled this car home on a trailer in 1992. The car was in one piece but needed a lot of work. The engine was completely rebuilt in the late 1990s and I filled it up completely with oil and stored it until the body work was done. The body was not removed from the frame as the car had leaked so much oil that the underside was completely coated and the frame was preserved. I installed a new door skin on the driver's door, two new rocker supports and rocker panels, driver's side floor pan, and a new four part rear fender on the driver's side. The body/paint/etc. work was completed in 2001. The under body was undercoated. The transmission was rebuilt in 2002 and the car was finally put on the road. Since 2002, the car has been driven about 300 miles per year. The dates listed above are approximate from memory. The car has never been rained on but it does have a tonneau cover and a convertible top, both of which are in the trunk. There are no side curtains. There are some minor blemishes in the paint. I took it in to University Motors last year for repairs because it was a hard starter and there was also a short in the wipers. They tuned the carburetors and installed a new control head. It starts easily now and the wipers work, both low and high speed. All gauges work. All lights work. The car is stock except I converted the cartridge oil filter to a spin-on filter, installed an electronic ignition system, installed an oil cooler, and installed a thermostat controlled fan for extra cooling. Triumph's were notorious for running hot, hence the oil cooler and extra fan. I recently bought a used valve cover on eBay and had it chromed. I installed it but do not like the way the oil filler cap fits. I still have the old valve cover, some spare parts, and a well thumbed manual. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
