1980 Triumph TR-8 81K original miles Rare fuel-injection Totally rust free Up for sale is this hard to find Triumph TR8 with Bosch L-Jet injection. I bought this car from a Triumph collector and enthusiast who had owned it since 2002. Sold new in Santa Barbara California, this car is one of just 400 factory fuel injected versions made for the 1980 model year; all were destined for the California market. The car retains an impressive amount of original paperwork, including the original window sticker, as well as service records and purchase documentation from 1980. Click to enlarge any of the images, OR click here to view a slideshow of all of the enlarged images. Here's a picture of the original window sticker. $13,245 was a lot of coin in the recessionary climate of 1980, it equals about about 38K in today's dollars. The car wears one repaint in its original color of Persian Aqua Metallic. The paint was done to good driver quaity standards, it has great gloss and depth but has a few minor flaws. Although not immediately evident, the hood shows some fisheye and dust in the paint, which may be able to be improved with color sanding. Overall the car's appearance is very strong, but not perfect. Tires are classic Pirelli P400's, they're in excellent condition with good tread and no sidewall checking. The factory alloy wheels are likewise terrific. The flaws on the hood are only visible on close inspection, they don't show up for the camera. Windshield is in great shape with no damage or wear. Classic Wedge Styling from the hand of Harris Mann, with convertible restyling by Michelotti. Clean appearance from every angle. Exceedingly straight, the car has no dents or dings, and most importantly - no rust or evidence of previous repair. The soft top is in great shape with good fit and finish. Parcel shelf shows no sun damage or water staining. The trunk is also exceptionally solid with zero rust issues. No problems in the left side well or battery tray, common trouble spots. Very nice looking interior that's pretty much a time-warp back to 1980. Seats and carpet are excellent, floor mats are original Triumph accessory Coco-Mats. The leather wrapped steering wheel is like new. ALL instrumentation works, including the clock. Factory radio works correctly, as well as the heater, plenums and fan. The A/C system is functioning but being December I can't gauge just how cold it's blowing. Excellent door panels and sills. Soft top boot is mint. Dash is in super condition with no damage or cracks. The car comes with a huge assortment of original literature and purchase paperwork. Also included are some service records and receipts, a TR8 service manual, and the factory jacking equipment in its original blue pouch. This TR8 is fantastic on the road. I've driven a lot of different Triumphs and having the 3.5L V8 in front of me on this one has been an eye opener! The car definitely moves right off the line and has an abundance of torque throughout its entire powerband. It's quick, it's fun, it's fast. The 5-speed transmission shifts perfectly and 5th gear translates to low rpms for easy freeway cruising. Very solid underneath with no rust and no sign of damage. A Falcon stainless exhaust is the only deviation from stock. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images. This is a very nice, solid original California car, rust free, brought to Oregon over a year ago. It was previously in covered storage in California since 1993. Currently the miles are at 90,542. I have gone through the car, and replaced the following. All new front and rear brakes, including master cylinder, calipers, rotors, wheel cylinders, hoses, hardware, etc. The clutch was replaced, flywheel machined, new ring gear, pilot bushing, throwout bearing, disc and pressure plate. Tune up parts, fuel pump, and other items replaced as well. The transmission and overdrive units were rebuilt by Ray Marty, of Marty Enterprises of Oregon. He also rebuilt the carburetor. (martyenterprisesoforegon ) The rear transverse spring and stainless muffler were replaced, they came from Spitbits. The overdrive makes this a car you can drive anywhere at highway speeds, very desirable. The car was recently tuned by Brian at Brian's British, of Newberg, Oregon. Lots of other things were done to the car, I can show you over $4600 spent on recent receipts, not including labor. I had the wheels powder coated, and four new tires installed. Nice car with original paint, and a decent interior. Paint checked on rear deck lid. Ready to drive and go at this time. Will need a new top, along with a new owner. Included is the tonneau cover for passenger compartment, or boot. Also have the original smog pump, piping, and related parts removed from the car. Clear Oregon title, in my name. I have a copy of the California title, and the original blue plates. It was in non-op status in California prior to my purchasing it, and I have the Craigslist ad documenting that as well. Also included is the original owner's manual, keys, and receipts dating back to the original owner. I will ship the car, with you making the arrangements and paying for it. I can store the car for a short time for free if needed. Any other special needs need to be worked out in advance. Payment: Non refundable $200 Paypal deposit within 24 hours of sale. The remainder of payment to be made by electronic bank transfer or wire. Or if local, will accept cash in person. Car is for sale locally, so reserve the right to end sale before ad expires. Email, or call at 503-551- 8189.

I restore vintage German cars for a living, but this is my first Triumph. I had no prior knowledge of this car, but when I saw it, I knew it was too cool to pass up. Its all original and 99.9% COMPLETE. It was purchased from the original owner. I see no signs of any prior accidents or body work. Paint seems to be original but it peeling throughout. Small dent/ding 2-3 inches on rear right panel. The only real rust I have seen is that the battery box tray is gone, and there are 4-5 dime size holes on an edge or two of the floor pan. Pushing hard around these areas it is solid. I have removed the seats to show the pan. Much of the original pan still is painted in the original Signal Red. There is a lot of surface rust in the pictures, but it is just that, and seems very solid. All of the chrome and lights are there and intact.. nothing looks damaged or cracked. Chrome should look like new after polished. Comes with two sets of wheels and a spare. One set of spoke wheels that need re chromed but look like great resto candidates. The other set is on the car. Looks to be original tools, orange jack, etc that are included in the auction as well. The front seats are excellent. I have not attempted to clean them yet, but they should look great. They were nice enough I was not going to re upholster them as there is only one seam 2-3 inches long that shows and wear. Original wood dash has the clear peelings, but I can see the wood underneath and it looks perfect and uncracked. Looks to have all the original knobs etc. Much of my knowledge was gained by some great people on the Triumph forum. My original plan was to do a frame off restoration and keep this car for myself as it was very original, but I have had some other projects come up that are in my area of expertise that I can not pass up. Sadly this must go. I learned that this GT6 is finished in Signal Red, and has a manual transmission without OD. Everything else seems to be very original including the plastic bottles in the engine compartment. What I know is missing is the master brake cylinder. I just had the generator and starter professional rebuilt electrically / mechanically / cosmetically inside and out. The motor did turn over and run, but after sitting inside for awhile appears to be stuck. I am not sure why, but I am sure there is a good chance it can be broke free. I have a new belt, spark plugs, oil filter, plug wires, cap, coil, and many more items. The oil was changed recently and looked great. With the valve cover off everything looks nice and clean. Quick walk around video here: http://youtu.be/CaHkW5z0n-k Buy it now, payment due at auction end. I can help with shipping on my end. This is a great chance to get in to a very original unmolested GT6. Thanks
