History This FJ60 Land Cruiser spent it first 30 years in Southern California and the last 2 years in Arizona and has zero rust. I have owned this truck for over a year and have just completed an extensive resto mod to better than new condition. Over $30,000 was invested and over eight months of hard work and dedication was done to make this one of the best driving FJ60’s available today. I had no plans to sell this wonderful truck but I am purchasing a business and need capital so unfortunately I have to sell it. This FJ60 has been modified to a Chevy 5.7 liter/350 V8 TBI with an automatic 700R4 transmission but retains the original Toyota transfer case. This engine swap is California Air Resources Board Certified (CARB) Label #N5286757 dated 9/28/2000 and will pass emissions in all 50 states. See the State Certification sticker photo below. The 5.7 liter V8 came from a 1994 Chevrolet truck with 70,000 miles. In early 1999 the original 4.2 liter 2F carburetor caught fire and burned the top end as well as the hood. The insurance company determined it a loss and paid the claim so the title is “salvage”. Let me be clear this truck has never been in an accident. This was a perfect situation for the owner to convert it to the more powerful 5.7 /350 V8 with throttle body injection and automatic transmission. Sadly, the conversion was only 80% completed and the truck was parked in 2002 in Palm Springs California. I purchased it in 2015 and just completed the resto mod to its present state which is spectacular. Work completed over the last year. *New factory Dark Blue Metallic paint and body work performed by Hunter’z Body Shop in Mesa *New interior, seats, carpet, door panels and dash cap completed by Sonny’s Upholstery in Tempe *New full Dynamat 80mm sound damping thermal solutions on all interior surfaces excluding roof. *New Kenwood KDC-X5 wireless blue tooth stereo with Kenwood 5.5 inch speakers. *New 700R4 transmission and torque converter built by Phillips Transmissions in Tempe AZ. *New Lokar custom shift linkage for the auto trans matted to a factory FJ62 shifter. *New engine seals including rear main compression tested at 165 lbs at all cylinders. *New plugs, wires, cap all belts, hoses and all fluids including differentials & transfer case. *New water pump, thermostat, fuel pump and starter. *New motor mounts and sway bar bushings. *New Dakota Digital control module for neutral lock out and reverse lights. *New 265/75 R16 BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2 tires. *New 16 inch Level 8 Tracker Black alloy cast wheels including 5th wheel for spare tire. *New 2.5 inch Old Man Emu lift including leaf springs, shocks, steering damper with caster kit. *New KKS 3 row aluminum high flow radiator. *New dual Maradyne Challenger automatic fans. *New Warn VR8000 Winch with 8,000 Lb. pulling capacity. *New ARB bull bar front bumper powder coated black. *New factory chrome rear bumper. *New 7 inch H4 Bulb conversion headlights, grill, badge and side markers. *New rear wheel cylinders break shoes, turned drums and factory break booster. *New A/C compressor, condenser, dryer and full charged with R134 refrigerant. *New throttle cable and speedometer cable. *Lots of other items have been replaced but just too many to list. Condition This FJ60 runs drives and stops absolutely awesome it’s like a new truck it even smells brand new inside. The power is strong and the transmission shifts smooth as silk. The factory FJ62 automatic shifter is also a great custom touch. There are NO rattles, squeaks or wind noise of any kind it really is very impressive to drive. Everything works as it should including all door locks, lights, wipers, seat belts, heater and A/C. The 4 wheel drive system engages smooth and operates perfect. It has never been wrecked and even has all the original factory Toyota glass including the windshield which is very rare. As you can see from the photos I did not repaint the under carriage, differentials or frame rails they are original everything was simply cleaned and wiped down. The original chrome rocker panel side trim "the snake blinders" are also intact and in very nice condition. Factory jack and tool kit are also included. It comes with the original Toyota owners manual, owners guide specific to California only and original signed Toyota Touch Personalized Pre-delivery service sheet from the dealer. Eric Murphy of Camelback Toyota in Phoenix and a proud member of Copper State Cruiser Club inspected and drove this truck on 1/31/17 and was very impressed with everything. He claimed it was the tightest, most quiet FJ60 he has ever driven and would vouch for its condition. To find a better JF60 I believe you would have to employ Jonathan Ward from ICON4x4 in Los Angeles to build you one at around $130,000 and at least a year’s time. I am not saying this is an ICON level truck but it’s the best FJ60 you get for the money and you can use it. It was built to be enjoyed and look great doing it. I get glowing complements and thumbs up every time I drive it. Cool old schools looks with modern performance and drivability. The truck has been road tested for around 600 miles after resto mod completion with no issues. It runs 70 miles an hour on the freeway without effort. Clear Arizona title in my name with current emissions and registration. CarFax report verifies no structural damage and odometer check verifies 194,000 original miles. Up for sale is a nicely appointed and finished 1971 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser. We are the 2nd owners, original owner purchased it new in 1971 in Tucson, Arizona and it has been in Arizona ever since, primarily in Wadell, AZ and Prescott, AZ. The original owner repowered it with a big block Chevrolet engine and SM465 four speed manual transmission in 1974 and it has been how it is since. It retains the original Toyota transfer case by way of an Advance Adapters old school kit, and has the factory Toyota axles. The odometer currently reads 00984, and the title says in excess of 100,000, so we believe the mileage to be 100,984. The FJ40 is equipped with power steering, power brakes, Warn lock out front hubs, and a GM tilt steering column. It runs and drives well and is a pleasure to drive, ample power, ease of parts location, and reliability. Engine - new valve cover gaskets, vintage period correct Edelbrock aluminum valve covers, new air cleaner assembly, MSD billet distributor, MSD coil, MSD 6a Ignition, MSD wires, new radiator overflow tank, coolant, radiator hose and radiator cap. The Rochester quadrajet carb has been rebuilt and starts easily, idles properly, and drives well. Wheels/Tires - New set of (5) 15"x10" Ion aluminum wheels, gloss black and machined lip, with New 33"x12.50"x15" Falken AT tires. The spare tire is a very close to new Toyo AT. New chrome lug nuts all the way around Undercarriage - The FJ40 has a 2.5" lift to clear the larger tires, has four New Pro Comp shock absorbers, dual exhaust with mellow sounding mufflers, moderately deep at idle, not very loud when driving, a good balance. Exterior - OK condition paint job, very recent, some hazing in portions of the top coat on the hood, perfectly fine for an all around driver vehicle, but not a show quality paint job. If you desired more of a museum quality FJ40 then you would want to repaint and while at it, obtain new rubber gaskets for all of the body glass and windows. The color is a gloss sand, looks a bit more yellow that it is in the photos due to the outdoor light conditions when it was photographed, but it is a sand color. Interior - New Full Custom Interior - front high back bucket seats professionally covered in oxblood brown leather, with Ralph Lauren plaid inlay. The seats have new foam so they are firm and supportive, rear troop seats have been refinished as the fronts, fully foamed and molded, and a million times better than the stock horse hair stuffed original vinyl. The seats are very high end, and strategically set this FJ apart from all the others, that use the stock black plain vinyl slip covers that most restoration shops use. Other appointments include new OEM Toyota sunvisors, new seat belts, shift boots, door weather strip. There is also a 1970s liquid filled compass and a 1970s CB radio installed, the CB does not appear to work. The inside floor portion of the body tub has been coated with a durable black Herculiner coating for ease of maintenance. Condition - The headlights, taillights, and turn signals all function, the side marker lights and wipers do not. The FJ40 also does not have a radio or speakers installed. There is an oil leak between the engine/trans and also between the trans/transfer case, that will leave drops after it has been driven. Overall the FJ40 runs and drives well, this could be repaired or resealed at a later date. The only other item we have noticed is that speedometer reads slow above 40mph, it seems to be accurate from 0-40, but above 40 it does not seam to keep up. In conjuction, due to the low gearing of this FJ40 as it is equipped it definitely is not a "freeway flier" It is geared pretty low and would be best suited as a cabin or beach cruiser vehicle, possibly used to tow a boat, trailer, or small camping trailer in rural areas, or especially be used in mountainous terrain where the low gears would be in their element. The SM465 transmission ratios are as follows (1st 6.55, 2nd 3.58, 3rd 1.70, 4th 1.00, reverse 6.09:1) The FJ40 shifts easily to Low Range and that ratio is 1.96:1. The differential gearing is 4.11, and total combined crawl ratio in all low forward gears is 52.76 to 1. A modern Jeep wrangler has a crawl ratio of approximately 26 to 1 for reference. We would estimate the top safe comfortable driving range to be about 55, which is probably very similar to the top factory speed, as it would have had similar low gears, and much smaller tires from the factory originally. It is also a short wheelbase vehicle, which makes it highly maneuverable, but also limits it at high speeds. The cruiser is located in Buckeye, AZ zip code 85326.
