Additional parts & work was done in 2007/2008! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxOver $40,000 invested in restoration. This Regal Coupe, previously owned by Senator Howard Baker, was preserved in a 6 stall "climate controlled" garage "specifically" built to house the senator's specialty auto's.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxAccording to NADA high retail for this Starlight Coupe is $25,100 A "meticulously restored and maintained" vehicle is ranked as a 10!The Champion Regal Starlight Coupe offered is indicative of a 10! A clean, well-preserved 2-Door 1951 Champion Regal Coupe with an Inline 6, 3 on the Tree, a Black Cherry Exterior with Gray Bedford Cloth Interior and 640-15 BF Goodrich Tires, the odometer recently read 88,508 miles.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxA 3-Ring binder showing work history/restoration receipts and by whom are included.Shown in the trunk picture are (3) additional work/service manuals (reproduction) (2) boxes of Turning Wheel magazines - most all are in mint condition dating back 15 to 20 years are part of this package!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx This Studebaker can be viewed at my residence. Serious only! Please read the following! As an enthusiast it is "not" my intent to offend anyone to include a potential buyer for anything I own! However........If you are interested in bad-mouthing this vehicle without taking the time to travel to see it or hear it run or to discount the restoration process or money invested that is detailed in receipts I have in my possession then simply "move along". I do not need to hear, take my time to review or respond to anyone that states they (1) are an authority, (2) work for a museum committee interested in finding unique vehicles or have a long history as being a collector "unless" you/they are willing to take the time to review all the documents I have detailing the committed effort to restore and maintain this vehicle.Unless prepared to invest in a nicely restored Champion Coupe that is a #10 for being restored and maintained in a climate controlled environment then look elsewhere for the vehicle you would like to purchase! Having been an enthusiast, collector and driver of vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles for over 40 years, I am providing an honest representation of a nicely restored 1951 Studebaker Champion Regal Coupe! If you are looking for a $10,000 car that will require over $30,000 in a frame off restoration, mechanical rebuild and years of your life to complete and all for $10,000 this "is not" the car for you!If you are looking for a nice car to drive "today" that requires nothing other than turning the key, then invest in the comfort of knowing your money will be well invested!Anyone "seriously" interested will understand this stance and understand the position. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI have zip folders of pictures I can send "if" a bidder provides a name, telephone number and valid email address! At this time I "do not use" photobucket or similar. Zip folders are available!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI have not driven this vehicle since acquiring it due to other commitments! Once the carburetor is primed sufficiently and warmed up for daily use, it starts easily. Emergency brake and regular brake and clutch operate easily and as normal!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx No warranty is expressed or implied! Tennessee title! Available for sale locally, I have the option to end the auction early!

1951 Studebaker Champion G-10 Starlight Coupe Senator Howard Baker--Receipts show over $37,000 invested in restoration-- xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx This 1951 Starlight Coupe was (1) of (6) vehicles restored and maintained by the former senator Howard H. Baker Jr of Tennessee who died mid 2014. Vehicle sales proceeds were donated to benefit the Howard H. Baker Jr. Institute for Public Policy at the University of Tennessee under a public auction. Not having known Senator Baker publicly or personally, not originating from Tennessee or having had children, my original interest in Studebaker drew me to this auction. This nicely restored and maintained Starlight Coupe is being made available to those with a true vested interest in the model line. A bit about Howard H. Baker, Jr For those, like myself who did not know anything about Senator Howard H. Baker Jr. of Tennessee, he framed the central question of the Watergate scandal when he asked, “What did the president know, and when did he know it?” and framed portraits of history with his ever-present camera while Senate majority leader and White House chief of staff, died June 26, 2014 at the age of 88 at his home in Huntsville, Tenn. Baker was born in Huntsville, TN, attended the McCallie School in Chattanooga and after graduating, he attended Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. During World War II, he trained at a U.S. Navy facility on the campus of the University of the South in Sweanee, TN, in the V-12 Navy College Training Program and served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. In 1949 he graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law. That same year, he was admitted to the Tennessee bar and began his law practice. The rotunda at the University of Tennessee College of Law is now named for Baker. While delivering a commencement speech during his grandson's graduation at East Tennessee State University (Johnson City) on May 5, 2007, Baker was awarded an honorary doctorate degree. Baker was an alumnus of the Alpha Sigma Chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Howard H. Baker Jr. was not only a U.S. senator but also a U.S. ambassador to Japan and on President Ronald Reagan's Chief of Staff. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx This 1951 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe was purchased by one of his daughters and presented as an anniversary gift to her father for his love of the Studebaker line. Restored by Peggy Craft Restorers in Harriman, TN between 1992 and 1994, details of labor, body work or parts being replaced are easily shown in 11 pages of receipts. In addition (16) pages of receipts from "Stephen Allen's SA in Newberry, FL are filed in the same 3 ring binder. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The last digit is questionable in the year, but in 1997? a letter was written by a Mr. Fred Marcum to "Harold Coker" from Coker Tire in Chattanooga, TN asking for an opinion regarding auction value that indicates to that time that $37,762.09 was invested in restoring the Starlight Coupe to the condition shown. A letter dated May 13, 1996, written by Howard Baker to Dean V. Kruse from Kruse International in Auburn, IN indicates the same regarding money invested! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The Starlight Coupe, identified by the four-pane rear window offering a panoramic view, was said to have drawn inspiration from the aviation industry. Not the best picture taker, some pictures were taken directly from those offered to the public during view time. I have not put this Studebaker up on a lift to snap a photo but it is as clean underneath as it is in the engine compartment, interior of the car or trunk. You can bid comfortably knowing you are investing in a nicely restored & maintained Starlight Coupe G-10. Viewed up close, the observation is that this is a clean and well-preserved 1951 Champion despite the slightly higher mileage! It is a 2-Door Coupe, has an Inline 6, 3 on the Tree, has the air induction flaps, is a Black Cherry Exterior with Gray Bedford Cloth Interior, 640-15 BF Goodrich Tires and the odometer read in the area of 88,508 miles.(3) manuals (trunk picture) and 3-Ring binder showing work history/restoration receipts and by whom are included. Included also are at least (2) boxes of Turning Wheel magazines I have maintained - most all are in mint condition dating back 15 to 20 years!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx This Studebaker can be viewed at my residence. Serious only! No warranty is expressed or implied! The Studebaker HAS NOT been driven since I unloaded from my trailer after the auction end earlier in 2015. This Studebaker has a clean Tennessee title! Available for sale locally, I have the option to end the auction early! Can assist with delivery on an open trailer within 500 miles if paid accordingly or U-Ship is a good option for most today!
