Sure, the body's fiberglass, but the proportions are familiar and instantly recognizable, and the guys at Unique Motorsports did a great job with the overall shape. A lot of Cobra kits take liberties with the original shape, either in the interest of interior space or aesthetics, but not this one. The finish quality is quite good, and you can't really blame the guy for wanting it to be pretty, so the glossy paint got a lot of extra prep. Black Cobras are rare, but nobody will argue that the shape doesn't look like a million bucks here, and even though it was completed in 1994, a freshening last year sharpened it up. The doors fit snugly, the hood gaps are clean, and even the trunk closes tightly without a wiggle. White stripes, aluminum jacking stubs, and a black roll bar behind the driver add to the race-ready vibe. That same attitude was carried inside, where modern leather buckets were fitted, along with the right style carpets and the simple door panels that characterized the basic early Cobras. That steering wheel is a handsome three-spoke piece with a warm wood rim that looks right at home in the Cobra's cockpit. White-faced Stewart Warner gauges have been fitted in the center stack and are flanked by auxiliary switches for things like the headlights and windshield wipers. The forward-canted shifter with white Hurst cue ball knob is easy to shift and falls to hand easily. No radio, no tacked-on A/C, no modern gauges, just a simple, clean interior that was what a Cobra buyer would have received in 1965. Even the trunk is finished in matching carpets with a battery tucked out of sight. The engine bay is also highly authentic, given that the powerplant is a 428 Cobra Jet instead of the more common 427 or even a Windsor-based small block. A handful of 428-powered Cobras slipped out of Shelby American's Los Angeles facility, most of which looked exactly like this. Rebuilt just last year, it wears finned valve covers and a matching air cleaner for the carburetor, and the traditional Cobra expansion tank on the upper radiator hose looks right. There's a bit Holley up top, an MSD 6AL ignition box, and a big cam inside, and it snarls to life through a set of great-sounding side pipes. The transmission is a Borg Warner Super T10 feeding what is believed to be the only Unique Motorsports Cobra with a Ford 9-inch rear end. The chassis is a simple ladder-style with a Mustang II type front suspension and coil-overs all around. Four wheel disc brakes keep things from getting too out of hand and it sits on handsome aluminum wheels with staggered 235/60/15 front and 295/50/15 rear Mickey Thompson radials. Cobra replicas remain just about the biggest bang for the buck in motoring, and with a lot of new parts, a clean, classic look, and that big block thumping away up front, this Cobra delivers 95% of the original experience for 5% of the price. Built by Jeff Brandon, a guy who only does one car a year, it's nicely finished and ready to enjoy, all at a bargain price. This particular hell-raiser is registered as a '97, but built with mid-'60s pedigree in mind. The Classic Roadsters Cobra kit takes a few liberties with the original Cobra's specs, all in the name of comfort. With four more inches in the wheelbase, two extra inches in width, and doors that are six inches longer than the stocker, it's far, far easier to get comfortable inside. But the changes are not immediately apparent unless there's a stock Cobra nearby, and honestly, at this point does it even matter? The subtle black paint isn't in-your-face like most Cobras and they skipped the stripes to make it look a bit more sinister, a look we like a great deal. Finish quality is very good and you can see the extra time that went into prepping the surface for that shiny black paint. It's got 5,330 miles on the build and it shows that someone took care of this car and treated it like something special. It's traditional inside, too. Low-back buckets covered in tan leather look authentic but offer more bolstering for comfort and support, and nicely stitched door panels with map pockets add to the finished feel. A wood-rimmed steering wheel re-creates the Cobra look and feels a little fatter than a stocker, while the dash offers a full array of Auto Meter Pro-Comp instruments. All the switchgear is easy to find and use and there's a matching wood knob for the Tremec T5 5-speed gearbox. There's an AM/FM/CD head unit in the dash, which is kind of academic in a Cobra, mostly because the side pipes are really all the aural entertainment you need. The trunk also includes a full carpet set and a rear-mounted battery for improved weight distribution. Horsepower is a non-issue thanks to a built 351 Windsor V8. In a lightweight Cobra, performance is impressive and the sound is even better. Dressed up with some chrome details, the engine bay is purposeful and functional, with good service access, and you can tell they focused on getting the important stuff right. The engine springs to life easily thanks to an Edelbrock intake and Barry Grant 4-barrel carburetor and lightweight Trick Flow aluminum heads build power and shed weight. Ceramic-coated headers manage the exhaust and it's got an awesome idle thanks to a full roller cam from Ford Motorsport. A Mustang II front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering make it corner like it's on rails, while a robust 8.8-inch rear axle hangs on Mustang-style trailing arms in back. Thanks to the 5-speed, the 4.10 gears out back offer explosive acceleration, Cobra style. There's a disc brake at all four corners and the wheels are Torque Thrusts and look right on a vintage snake. The tires are right-sized 235/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear Goodyears with yellow lettering for a vintage vibe. There are a lot of Cobra replicas out there, but not many combine this much quality and high-end hardware with such an affordable price tag. Call today! Take, for example, this Contemporary Cobra, which is widely regarded as one of the most accurate Cobra replicas you can buy, from the round-tube chassis to the exacting proportions of the body. And if you add a 427 side-oiler like the one in this car, you'll end up with a car that very realistically duplicates the original in all the important ways, including the insane performance. Even basic white paint looks sinister when it's wrapped around the luscious curves of a Cobra roadster. Although it's fiberglass, the detailing on this one is extremely compelling, particularly the hood with its exposed rivets and functional hood scoop. Finish quality is exceptionally good, and despite being built in 1988, this car has seemingly spent most of its life in a bubble, securely stored in a near-perfect environment. As a result, the pearl white paint has an awesome glow that's tough to capture in the studio but looks awesome out in the sunlight. Detailing is, of course, exacting, from the frame-mounted chrome roll bar for the driver to the bumperettes fore and aft to the butch-looking flat black side pipes that look race-ready. And, of course, there's a real sense of pride in driving a Cobra with '427' badges on the side that aren't just for show. The impressive authenticity continues inside with beautiful blue leather buckets that wrap around and hug you in place and matching door panels with map pockets made of the same fragrant hides. That handsome steering wheel accurately re-creates the original and correct Smiths gauges add to the 1965 look and feel. This Cobra does just fine without a radio, thank you very much, with the side pipes providing all the stereo you'll need when you're hammering the throttle. The forward-canted shifter links to a 4-speed Toploader and the sound of that transmission alone will make gearheads swoon. Simpson race harnesses are not only a good idea for safety but also help hold you in place during aggressive driving and there are beautifully finished carpets that belie this car's racing heritage. A bare trunk doesn't offer much for show but it's big enough to make the Cobra at least a little practical. Really, if you're going to build a Cobra, why not put an authentic motor in it? The 427 side-oiler in this car cranks out some fairly serious horsepower thanks to a pair of Holley double-pumpers on top of a medium-rise intake and a set of Edelbrock Performer heads. Finned aluminum valve covers and a correct expansion tank add to the vintage look, and this sucker bucks, snarls, and cackles like the real thing. There's a lot of vintage-looking under the hood that adds an authentic vibe to the entire presentation, and with an MSD ignition system and aluminum radiator, it doesn't seem to mind slogging through traffic. The aforementioned Toploader 4-speed feeds a trick Jaguar rear end complete with and inboard disc brakes, while the front suspension is made up of elegant aluminum A-arms that are works of art all by themselves. For safety, there are big Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners and coil-overs holding everything up. Pin-drive Halibrand wheels look just like the originals and wear fat Hankook radials that do a pretty good job of making it sit right. Highly accurate and beautifully finished, this fantastic Cobra cost a fortune to build. If you appreciate that level of commitment and detail, then this is the Cobra you should put in your garage. Sure, it's iconic, but the appeal is still as visceral today as it was 50 years ago: two seats, a big V8, and little else, the Cobra is perhaps the purest distillation of automotive performance yet devised by man. But why waste the time and money building your own when great Cobras like this stunning Factory Five roadster are available for less than the cost of doing it yourself. Factory Five got the formula right, and the proportions of their Cobra are pretty darned good. If you've never driven an original (almost nobody has), then you don't know how comfortable the Factory Five is in comparison. There's more room in the foot box for those of us with larger than size 7 sneakers, more legroom, and they achieve all this without altering the instantly-recognizable Cobra shape. They also lay down some pretty darned good fiberglass, so the cars are durable as well as iconic. This one was nicely finished with bright red paint that has a great shine along with a set of silver stripes that stretch from nose to tail in an unbroken line. The competition look is reinforced by the jacking stubs in lieu of bumpers, a flip-up gas cap, and a painted silver roll bar that matches the stripes. Lighting uses bright HID headlights, so feel free to hit the streets at night, as well as a set of authentic-looking Lucas-style taillights out back. Those are body-hugging Sparco buckets inside, and they leave no doubt as to this Cobra's real intentions. Simpson harnesses are probably a good idea when there's this much performance under you right foot, and it'll take a while to adjust to the mind-altering levels of acceleration this car delivers. Other correct details include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and forward-canted Mustang shifter, which now manages a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox. I'm guessing Ol' Shel' would approve of the car's vintage-looking Stewart-Warner dials, which bear more than a passing resemblance to the ancient Smiths gauges he originally used, including a reverse-rotation speedometer. It's definitely basic, without even a heater or radio, but that's the whole point. Guys who put heavy stereos in their Cobras just don't get it-side pipes are the ultimate soundtrack. Just the necessities and nothing else. It's also nice to see that the trunk was finished with some black carpet to help control noise and heat, and the Optima battery is a smart choice. Factory Five uses popular Ford blocks, which means that not only are the mechanicals durable, but every upgrade available for a Mustang is a virtual bolt-on. This one offers a built 351 Windsor and a Tremec TKO 5-speed, as well as an Edelbrock intake, Holley 4-barrel carb, and an MSD ignition system to make it run right. Mustang guys will see a lot of familiar hardware under the hood, which is Factory Five's M.O., and Cobra valve covers add a bit of retro styling. The suspension is far more sophisticated than most Cobra replicas, with A-arms and coil-overs up front and a trick independent setup out back, all anchored to a sturdy rectangular steel tube frame. Cobra alloys look fantastic and wear 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear Firestone performance radials. This awesome Factory Five Cobra offers two seats and no waiting. This Unique Motorsports 1967 Cobra replica sports a real-deal 427 and a Toploader 4-speed, so it has the authentic driving experience, and dressed in Guards Blue with white LeMans stripes, it certainly looks like the Cobra we've all dreamed of owning since we were kids. Finished in 1992, this car is remarkably well-preserved, indicative of careful use and conscientious ownership. With a car like this, the urge to take it out for a spin must be monumental, but it still looks fresh. The paint is perhaps one shade lighter than true Guards Blue, but there's no denying the look is 100% competition Cobra. The flared rear fenders, the curvaceous nose, and the all-business open cockpit are timeless reminders of when performance was about minimalism. The white stripes are quite nicely done, stretching from the oil cooler opening to the rear pan, and you'll note that they wrap into the engine compartment and trunk lip, evidence of careful painters at work. A chrome roll hoop for the driver, a raked windshield with wind wings, and a front grille guard add a little sparkle to the Cobra, all of it quite authentic-looking. The white interior is a little bit of a deviation from the standard Cobra spec, but if you've got a car with no top and a fire-breathing big block up front, keeping cool is important and the white seats definitely help. Black carpets help anchor everything and don't show dirt and the door panels feature neat map pockets that are surprisingly practical. A Stewart-Warner reverse-rotation speedometer adds to the authentic feel of this Cobra, and the vintage-looking auxiliary gauges give off a period vibe. Toggle switches control the auxiliary systems, but this Cobra is definitely about performance, so there's no radio or heater. The wood-rimmed steering wheel is a reproduction Cobra piece. The trunk is simply finished in black carpets, and the car includes a convertible top, side curtains, and a tonneau cover. But the true measure of any Cobra is the powerplant, and this one nails the authenticity meter with a real-deal 427 cubic inch Ford V8. Topped by an Edelbrock intake and a Holley double pumper inside a correct air box, it certainly looks like the Cobras of yore when you tilt the hood forward. They even worked to give the fiberglass a low-sheen finish that would look like aluminum at first glance. A correct expansion tank, finned valve covers, and twin cooling fans up front add to the correct look. Turn the key and it sparks to life through those awesome-sounding side pipes, and there really is nothing like a 427 at full song. A Ford Toploader 4-speed manual transmission pounds through the gears and feeds an independent rear end with inboard disc brakes. The front suspension consists of A-arms that approximate the original setup, and there are disc brakes up front, too. Gorgeous Compomotive knock-off replicas duplicate the original knock-off Halibrands and carry staggered 235/60/15 front and 295/50/15 rear performance radials. If you grew up with a Cobra poster on your bedroom wall, this car will deliver one of the more authentic experiences we've seen recently. If getting it right matters, then perhaps this Cobra is the right one for you. Vehicle Information VIN: 6T09C159498 Stock: 2138-ATL Mileage: 3,707 Color: Red Trans: Manual Engine: MPG: Drivetrain: Description There isnt a gearhead alive who hasnt tossed around the idea of building his own Cobra. Sure, its iconic, but the appeal is still as visceral today as it was 50 years ago: two seats, a big V8, and little else, the Cobra is perhaps the purest distillation of automotive performance yet devised by man. But why waste the time and money building your own when great Cobras like this stunning Factory Five roadster are available for less than the cost of doing it yourself. Factory Five got the formula right, and the proportions of their Cobra are pretty darned good. If youve never driven an original (almost nobody has), then you dont know how comfortable the Factory Five is in comparison. Theres more room in the foot box for those of us with larger than size 7 sneakers, more legroom, and they achieve all this without altering the instantly-recognizable Cobra shape. Those are body-hugging Sparco buckets inside, and they leave no doubt as to this Cobras real intentions. Simpson harnesses are probably a good idea when theres this much performance under you right foot, and itll take a while to adjust to the mind-altering levels of acceleration this car delivers. Other correct details include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and forward-canted Mustang shifter, which now manages a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox. Im guessing Ol Shel would approve of the cars vintage-looking Stewart-Warner dials, which bear more than a passing resemblance to the ancient Smiths gauges he originally used, including a reverse-rotation speedometer. Its definitely basic, without even a heater or radio, but thats the whole point. Guys who put heavy stereos in their Cobras just dont get it-side pipes are the ultimate soundtrack. Just the necessities and nothing else. Its also nice to see that the trunk was finished with some black carpet to help control noise and heat, and the Optima battery is a smart choice. Mustang guys will see a lot of familiar hardware under the hood, which is Factory Fives M.O., and Cobra valve covers add a bit of retro styling. With a stout fuel-injected Mustang 5.0 under the hood and a Cobra-grade suspension, this is a very formidable roadster that's also reliable enough to drive every day. You know the old line about black being the hardest color to perfect? It's true, and the guys who built this car went the extra mile to make sure there were no disappointments. With PPG black paint and those icy blue stripes, there's no disguising the Cobra shape, but this one takes on an altogether more menacing persona than many of its siblings. Factory Five's fiberglass is better than most, so the car fits together quite well and with just a bit of prep, ends up looking like a million bucks. All the original Cobra design cues are there, from the jacking stubs to the side pipes to twin roll bars for driver and passenger, proving once again that no car has survived the passage of history better than the Cobra. This is not a purist's car, of course, but if you want an awesome-looking snake that moves even better than it looks, this is your car. I'm guessing the intent was to build a car that is as happy on the track as on the street, and the competition-grade bucket seats seem to bear this out. Fitted with Simpson harnesses for both driver and passenger, you feel bolted directly to the car and can feel every move it makes in the seat of your pants. Black carpets help with heat control, but it's very bare-bones in the best sense of the word inside. A stylish dashboard houses modern Auto Meter Ultra Lite gauges and while the wheel has a traditional Cobra logo, the fat leather-wrapped rim is purely to help you hold on tight. A billet shifter manages five gears instead of four, and it's nice to see authentic little details like the leather check straps on the doors and simple latch hardware. A Sony AM/FM/CD stereo system was cleverly hidden in the trunk, along with the Optima battery and for a sporting car, the fully finished cargo bay is a nice touch. While a heavy 427 scores cool points, if you're going to actually drive your Cobra an injected 5.0 is going to deliver more fun per cubic inch. Decked out with all the latest and greatest 5.0 upgrades, from the polished intake to the GT40 aluminum heads, this stout small block grunts out a very impressive 360 horsepower. And thanks to the wonders of the Performance Products fuel injection, it starts instantly and runs like a scalded cat regardless of ambient conditions. Cobra valve covers add a nostalgic touch, and if you've been under the hood of a 5.0 Mustang, you'll feel right at home here. Backed by a 5-speed gearbox and 8.8-inch rear, it has a gear for every occasion, from pulling a hole-shot to cruising on the highway. The tubular frame is very nicely finished, and with rack-and-pinion steering, 4-wheel Wilwood disc brakes, and a set of coil-over shocks up front, handling is far sharper than anything with a big block could be. Gorgeous 17-ich Cobra R wheels look great and carry 235/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear BFGoodrich radials. So if it's a Cobra you seek, this very drivable and very fast Factory Five roadster does everything quite well.
