The Shelby Cobra was manufactured in 1962 and was professionally restored in 1997 at the direction of the current owner. The original equipment 260 C. I. Windsor block V-8 was replaced by a solid lifter 289 C. I., as were most slab side Cobras. Correct Weber carbs and manifold have been fitted, but the original 4 bbl carb and manifold will go with the sale. The original aluminum case T10 Borg Warner transmission and correct Salisbury type rear axle, with outboard brakes, are still on the car as well as the Girling calipers and Lucas electrical components. The factory roll bar, under car exhaust, and chrome hoop front bumper are also original. This car was built shortly after Carroll Shelby introduced the Cobra and is identical to the original CSX2001, except for its color (see LINK). Following the introduction of the fifth generation Ford Mustang, the Shelby nameplate was revived in 2007 for new high performance versions of the Mustang but this time designed and built by Ford at Ford Plants Overview Production 1967-1968 Assembly 1967: Los Angeles, California 1968: Ionia, Michigan Body and chassis Body style 2-door fastback 2-door convertible (1968) Powertrain Engine 289 cu in (4.7 L) V8 (1967 GT350) 302 cu in (4.9 L) V8 (1968 GT350) 428 cu in (7.0 L) V8 (GT500KR) 427 cu in (7.0 L) V8 (Early GT500) Transmission 3-speed automatic 4-speed manual For 1967, the GT 350 carried over the K-Code high performance 289 with a 'COBRA' aluminum hi-rise. The GT 500 was added to the lineup, equipped with the 428 Police Interceptor. These later cars carried over few of the performance modifications of the 1965-66 GT350s, although they did feature more cosmetic changes. In September 1967, production was moved to the A.O. Smith Company of Ionia, Michigan, under Ford control. Shelby American had substantially less involvement after this time. One 1967 Fastback was built as the "Super Snake" - a GT-500 equipped with a 427 FE engine producing over 500 horsepower. The car was capable of speeds over 150 mph; hitting 170 mph during a demonstration (by Shelby himself) of Goodyear's Thunderbolt tires. No cars other than the prototype were built due to limited interest. The car sold at Mecum's 2013 Indianapolis auction for $1.3 million USD. For 1968, the Cobra name was applied to both models, and they were now marketed as the Shelby Cobra GT 350 and the Shelby Cobra GT 500.
