BODYWORK/TRIM Factory Five Racing has long been applauded for their great fiberglass work, and this Cobra is no exception. The car's virtually flawless profile, modeled on two well-known Shelby classics, is a 1-piece, hand-laid Vinylester shell that was laminated to 3/16ths, CNC trimmed and covered in a .015-inch gel coat. That gel lays excellent groundwork for wet looking Metallic Blue 2-stage. Since pretty much every Cobra worth its salt needs some kind of war paint, the builder added a classy pair of Pewter racing stripes. And today, this super slick roadster is a head-turning classic that's ready for the track, the boulevard or the show! Speaking of sophistication, crude detailing is often the downfall of an otherwise excellent build. Not so with this MK4, as every aspect of its design enhances Shelby's innate style and appeal. At the front of the car, polished overriders reflect chrome-trimmed headlights, bullet-style parking lamps and a requisite Shelby emblem. Behind that emblem, a scooped, 1-piece hood flows to chrome-trimmed glass that's seated between polished wipers and Factory Five wind wings. Behind those wings, an accessory hardtop fits well over a polished roll bar. Below that top, aluminum air extractors, a bullet-style racing mirror and small "427" emblems float amid polished side pipes and a familiar LeMans fuel filler. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed taillights illuminate a polished oval bumper and two more polished overriders. ENGINE When the original Cobra stormed the scene, team Shelby's mantra was all performance, all the way. And, while many reproductions hit the ground as sedate street cruisers, serious road chops require serious motor. Stroked to a whopping 392 cubic inches, this roadster's serious chops come in the form of a spry Ford Racing small block. The mean mill's energy mixture is supplied by a big Holley carburetor, which is sandwiched between a traditional Cobra air cleaner, a chrome Holley regulator and an aluminum Motorsport intake. That mixture travels in to free breathing aluminum heads, which hang Cobra-branded valve covers and a Ford Racing breather over coated stainless headers. The fires stay lit thanks to MSD 6AL ignition, which jolts a traditional distributor, an MSD Blaster 2 coil and loomed Ford Racing plug wires. That fire is kept in check by a beefy aluminum radiator, which is mated to stainless water tubes and a big electric puller fan. A billet serpentine drive spins a polished, 1-wire alternator above an aluminum water pump. And first rate details, like trick dipsticks, a polished expansion tank, stainless fuel lines, a Jegs throttle linkage and a liquid-filled Jegs pressure gauge, ensure this classic is more than just a random curbside attraction. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION When it's time to put your hair in the wind, forget about outdated Toploader 4-speeds because this modern-day Cobra blisters the pavement with a fresh Tremec 5-speed. That world-class transmission utilizes a Tremec twin-disc clutch to spin a fresh, 8.8-inch pumpkin, which is fitted with 3.73 gears and a posi-traction differential. That drivetrain rides in a fabricated steel chassis that distills a 4-inch DOM frame into modern independent front and 3-link rear suspensions. Those suspensions, which make good use of tubular control arms and Koni coli-over-shocks, are connected to four big calipers that squeeze four drilled discs. At the front of the car's aluminum floor, modern rack-and-pinion steering makes low speed cruising almost as easy as high-speed sweeps. Power meets the pavement through attractive OE Racing wheels, which twist 245/45ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 315/35R17 Nitto NT555R Extreme Drags. And details like a deep-sump oil pan and color-keyed fender coating round out the car's impressive build. INTERIOR Cobra interiors have always been stylish and simple, and one look inside this roadster reveals just how serious the car's aspirations are when it comes to being driver-focused. British-style bucket seats stretch tight leather hides under 5-point Simpson safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a wrapped dash hangs Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite telemetry between a small fire extinguisher and pedestal-mount mirror. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors hang polished poppers behind pleated leather panels. Below those doors, clean carpet centers a booted e-brake and small shifter between metal foot pedals and colorful Cobra mats. These coupes have the rare distinction of being the first year for the big block, and the last year to be built in California. This one is a well-known vehicle that you can view as car #2802 in the Shelby Registry. Carroll Shelby turned a handful of Mustang fastbacks into a something that was distinctly all his own. There's just no mistaking the Shelby look. The custom fiberglass hood; the functional side scoops; the molded rear deck lid; and the sequential taillights - it all makes an impressive statement. We have the receipts to show that in 2009 this car went through an $85,000+ restoration to make sure this one stayed at the top of its game. Nothing is out of place, the Lime Gold paint is pristine, and the panel gaps are concours-worthy. It's even wearing the expensive, and correct, Goodyear Speedway small letter tires. Remember, 1967 was the last year these 1st generation Mustangs were transformed at the Shelby's own California factory, after that these were coming out of Michigan. So this car really does have an unbeatable race-inspired pedigree. The black bucket seat interior is clean and pristine, including the seat covers, door panels, and dash pad. Basically this one feels factory correct right down to the floormats. It wouldn't feel like a proper first-year GT500 without features like the woodgrained three-spoke steering wheel, roll bar, full harnesses, and full gauge cluster, including the oil pressure and alternator readouts below the AM radio. Check out the included Marti report, everything is as it should be right down to the folding rear seat. Under the hood is exactly what you want to see. This is Ford's big 428 cubic-inch V8 borrowed from the Police Interceptor package. This is believed to be the original motor from Shelby, and it still carries all the great Cobra pieces on the fined air cleaner and valve covers. This engine has not been overly dressed like some chrome king GT500s out there, instead this is dressed to impress with its originality. This level of factory spec also means this motor is carrying the correct aluminum intake manifold topped with dual inline Holley 600 CFM four-barrel carburetors. 355 horsepower? Yeah, we all knew that factory rating was a joke. The GT500 was a great car on the road thanks to a beefed up version of the Mustang's GT package, but that's just the tip of the iceberg for this car. It might be concours-worthy, but you don't have to be afraid to drive it anywhere because it's very easy to maneuver with power steering, front disc brakes, and the factory-optioned C6 three-speed automatic transmission. This is the ultimate snake-bitten Mustang, and it has all the right history, documentation, and presentation to be an award-winner. The overall effect is a super shiny package on this American racing icon that's only reinforced by the bright push bumpers in front, and classic tube rear bumper. Details like the knock-off style wheels, driver roll hoop, and wide fender flares, suggest that it was built for combat, and the hardware underneath backs up this assumption. But even if you don't turn a wheel on the track, it's certain to turn heads on the street. The interior definitely gets the Shelby attitude right with wrap-around buckets, and the three spoke wood steering wheel. The gear stick has been bent forward for improved comfort, and there are power outlets to plug in any essentials (ya know, like a radar detector.) The full AutoMeter gauge package is critical if you're using your Cobra on the track, but if not, they also just look like cool representations of the Cobra's original Smiths readout package. There's no radio, no heater, no A/C this was built with driving in mind, and it's all about the driving experience and nothing else needs to get in the way. Speaking of the driving experience, the best part of a Cobra is always under the hood. This one is powered by a Ford's legendary 302 cubic-inch V8 that was rebuilt less than 750 miles ago. It's been dressed nicely with the correct Cobra air filter, and finned valve covers. Beyond just looking good, the motor makes some serious power by inhaling through a four-barrel carburetor, and exhaling deeply through the powder-coated side pipes. This V8 does a great job of moving the lightweight fiberglass body, and you can stay in the powerband with ease thanks to the five-speed manual transmission. Of course, power is nothing without control. That's why this Cobra comes with an aluminum independent front and rear suspension package, borrowed from a Corvette. "Copper" might've been a bit of a stretch for the sake of catchy alliteration. But it's certainly a fair assessment of a color that PPG technically calls Vibrant Nutmeg. That pigment shines between Pewter racing stripes and a clean fiberglass body that, in the summer of 2015, was completely worked by Cobra expert Bill Jordan. If that name sounds familiar, it's because Jordan appeared on an episode of South Beach Classics. And if this roadster looks 'showroom fresh', it's because the car has logged less than 100 miles since its completion. At the front of its body, a sculpted nose hangs polished quick lifts and requisite mesh grilles between halogen headlights and chrome-trimmed, bullet-style marker lamps. A sculpted hood anchors an integrated scoop in front of chrome latches. Behind that hood, a chrome-trimmed windshield hangs a small mirror between of clear wind wings, polished wipers and dark-tint visors. At the sides of the car, chrome exhaust pipes frame stylish 427 emblems, aluminum air extractors and a familiar, Monza-style fuel filler. And at the back of the car, a 2-inch stainless roll bar leads the eye to chrome-trimmed taillights, a locking trunk and two more polished quick lifts. ENGINE 'Keep it simple' is a good philosophy when it comes to performance and reliability. And the builders of this clean classic did exactly that by equipping the car with Ford's storied, 302 cubic inch small block. At the top of the fully sorted mill, a petite, polished air cleaner funnels oxygen in to a coated Summit carburetor. That juice box rides between polished fuel lines, a clean Summit intake and an MSD Pro-Billet distributor that flames loomed Summit Street & Strip plug wires. That intake pushes air and fossils through factory Ford heads, which balance chrome valve covers under chrome breathers. In front of those covers, billet pulleys spin a fresh aluminum water pump between a Wilson alternator and coated mechanical fuel pump. At the front of those ancillaries, a heavy-duty puller fan cools an aluminum, high capacity radiator. And speaking of keeping things cool, thermal-wrapped headers join an insulated cowl to benefit engine and passengers alike. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION When it's time to put your hair in the wind, forget outdated Toploaders because this modern-day Cobra blisters the pavement with a fresh Borg Warner 5-speed. That tough transmission twists a Driveshaft Specialist driveshaft, which spins a 9-inch Ford axle. That drivetrain, bolted to a modern, powder-coated chassis, rolls a high performance independent front and 4-link rear suspension, which benefits from tubular control arms and fully adjustable coil-overs. Authentic track feel is maintained by manual rack-and-pinion steering. Brakes are vented discs at all four corners. And there's simply nothing that looks better on a Cobra than a set of Halibrand-style wheels, which spin sticky 235/60R15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts in front of aggressive 295/50R15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts. INTERIOR Open the car's small doors and you'll find a classy cockpit that's a bit more luxurious and roomier than typical Cobra fodder. Bomber-style seats wear pleated, stitched and embroidered leather under 4-point safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a painted and upholstered dash founds clean, white-face telemetry under a small rearview mirror. At the sides of that dash, the aforementioned doors hang pleated panels in front of chrome latches. So of course we wish we had that rare gem today, but then again, this near perfect tribute is about as close as you can get to have some Nicholas Cage style fun. This car has all the great lines of the original Mustang, but there is no mistaking it for any secretary's car. The customization is apparent from every angle with a body kit by Unique Performance. It starts up front with the dual billet grilles that that make way for a new front bumper and racing lights. And speaking of lights, this also gets a custom set of fog lights and cool-blue driving lamps mounted in specially built front panel. The hood pins look like they were necessary to tame this beastly bulging hood (and we'll tell you exactly why they're needed a little later). The laser straight bodylines even have room to integrate the side exhaust pipes. Out back the flat rear panel and bumper have been de-chromed in true racer fashion. But even without this brightwork, Eleanor shines in many other ways. The superb silver paint with dual black racing stripes has enough gloss to be a mirror. Plus, the shine from 20-inch Boss wheels is enough chrome to grab everyone's attention. Take one look at the interior and you know Eleanor is a serious gal. Your seating is a set of Sparco racing buckets with a matching set of four-point harnesses. The three-spoke steering wheel has the old-school wood grain appearance, but with an upgrade for better grip. Behind it are new Pro-comp gauges that take the place of the original GT readouts. Eleanor might be a mean machine, but she also knows how to pamper (although you may not know it by the "GO BABY GO" text around the nitrous button on the shift knob). This is a power steering car with ice cold air conditioning, and power windows set in a custom center console. There's a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo system that's iPod compatible. The amplifier in the trunk runs the massive speakers that you can hear at any speed. But really that's secondary, because your favorite soundtrack will always be exhaust booming from the beastly motor. While the original 1967 Shelby GT500s had a 427 cubic-inch engine, this super-snake has been super-sized with a 460 V8. Of course the upgrades don't stop there. This one is running an Edelbrock 650cfm double-pump carburetor and Performer intake. The inner workings of the engine have been fully rebuilt, including competition-style aluminum heads, new pistons, rings, rods, roller rocker arms, valves, and timing chain. Keeping the vital fluids flowing is a Holley electric water pump, single stage dry-sump oil pump, and a Be Cool aluminum radiator with electric fan. But out of all these performance upgrades, there is one that's the most obvious. Of course, we're talking about that NOS bottle that is in plain view of the back window. It's clearly visible to intimidate everyone, but that's just where the fun begins. The car is already wired with a missile-style safety switch for arming the gas bottle, and blast-off is via the red button on the stick shift just like in the movie! There's a five-speed manual transmission to make sure there are enough gears to keep up with a motor that can outrun everyone. Plus, this has a stout 9-inch Ford rear end that won't let you down. Traction is excellent with four-wheel disc brakes and the original 17-inch Cobra style wheels, but you can also elect to install the super sticky 20-inch Toyo Proxes 4 tires included in the later pictures instead. The seller will swap for your choice. Oh yeah, did we mention that this car only has 50 miles on the odometer since built? These coupes have the rare distinction of being the first year for the big block, and the last year to be built in California. This one is a well-known vehicle that you can view as car #2802 in the Shelby Registry. Carroll Shelby turned a handful of Mustang fastbacks into a something that was distinctly all his own. There's just no mistaking the Shelby look. The custom fiberglass hood; the functional side scoops; the molded rear deck lid; and the sequential taillights - it all makes an impressive statement. We have the receipts to show that in 2009 this car went through an $85,000+ restoration to make sure this one stayed at the top of its game. Nothing is out of place, the Lime Gold paint is pristine, and the panel gaps are concours-worthy. It's even wearing the expensive, and correct, Goodyear Speedway small letter tires. Remember, 1967 was the last year these 1st generation Mustangs were transformed at the Shelby's own California factory, after that these were coming out of Michigan. So this car really does have an unbeatable race-inspired pedigree. The black bucket seat interior is clean and pristine, including the seat covers, door panels, and dash pad. Basically this one feels factory correct right down to the floormats. It wouldn't feel like a proper first-year GT500 without features like the woodgrained three-spoke steering wheel, roll bar, full harnesses, and full gauge cluster, including the oil pressure and alternator readouts below the AM radio. Check out the included Marti report, everything is as it should be right down to the folding rear seat. Under the hood is exactly what you want to see. This is Ford's big 428 cubic-inch V8 borrowed from the Police Interceptor package. This is believed to be the original motor from Shelby, and it still carries all the great Cobra pieces on the fined air cleaner and valve covers. This engine has not been overly dressed like some chrome king GT500s out there, instead this is dressed to impress with its originality. This level of factory spec also means this motor is carrying the correct aluminum intake manifold topped with dual inline Holley 600 CFM four-barrel carburetors. 355 horsepower? Yeah, we all knew that factory rating was a joke. The GT500 was a great car on the road thanks to a beefed up version of the Mustang's GT package, but that's just the tip of the iceberg for this car. It might be concours-worthy, but you don't have to be afraid to drive it anywhere because it's very easy to maneuver with power steering, front disc brakes, and the factory-optioned C6 three-speed automatic transmission. The problem then becomes the amount of time and money that such a massive undertaking requires. After spending years writing check after check to shop after shop, the enthusiast finally gets to enjoy a car that, by that point in time, they might not even want. Fortunately, there is a better solution! BODYWORK/TRIM Factory Five Racing has long been applauded for their great fiberglass work, and this Cobra is no exception. The car's virtually flawless profile, showcasing the typically tight tolerances that have become a Factory Five hallmark, lays excellent groundwork for a wet looking coat of glossy PPG Copperhead Pearl 2-stage. That 2-stage was applied at a professional finishing shop as part of a 2-year assembly that wrapped up in late 2005. Since Copperhead Pearl is always best when mixed with something else, the car's slick profile was detailed with Sherman Williams White Pearl stripes. And today, this super slick Cobra is a race-bred street king that's puts a refreshing twist on a timeless American classic. Detailing is crucial on a replica because that's where a lot of cars start to disappoint. Fortunately, you can tell the overall impression of one of these Cobras from about five feet away. And naturally, since were featuring it, this roadster hits all the right visuals! At the front of the car, a sculpted nose hangs a Dark Water Customs air splitter between satin quick lifts, mesh grilles and Cobra Valley Crystalite headlights. A sculpted hood anchors an integrated scoop between locking latches and billet Anvil Auto pins. Behind that hood, a stainless-trimmed windshield hangs a small mirror in front of clear wind wings and dark-tint visors. At the sides of the car, Satin Black exhaust pipes frame stylish 427 emblems, Finishline air extractors and a familiar, Monza-style fuel filler. And at the back of the car, a polished roll bar leads the eye to chrome-trimmed taillights, a locking trunk and two more satin quick lifts. ENGINE Great looks are only part of this Cobra's appeal: it also does a very good job of going really fast and making lots of awesome noise! Remove the car's tidy hood and you'll find a 347 cubic inch Ford stroker motor that utilizes a cast SCAT crank, forged SCAT rods, Keith Black hypereutectic pistons and a custom-grind hydraulic roller cam to churn big horsepower into ample torque. At the top of the balanced and blueprinted mill, a familiar Cobra air cleaner funnels wind in to a 1,200cfm Accel throttle body that's cinched to an Edelbrock Victor EFI intake. That intake is wired to 30 lb./hr. injectors, which siphon a Holley 250 pump, 6AN fluid lines and Edelbrock fuel rails. At the front of those rails, an Accel Dual Sync distributor utilizes Accel DFI 6A ignition and thick MSD Super Conductor plug wires to sequentially fire eight massive cylinders. Those cylinders combust under Dart Pro1 heads, which hide Chromoly pushrods, ARP bolts and Comp Pro Magnum roller rockers under a polished breather and Ford Racing valve covers. At the sides of those covers, coated Ford Racing headers feed high-flow Factory Five cats and stainless DNA mufflers. At the front of those headers, roller timing components back a billet March accessory drive, which spins a rebuilt alternator at the side of a reverse-rotation water pump. And that pump feeds a custom Tri-State Motorsports radiator, which fronts a large electric puller fan and Zoops expansion tank. Electronically, fresh American Autowire wiring works with Accel DFI Thruster EFI engine management to ensure miles of smiles. And niceties like Clevite bearings, Hastings rings, a Melling oil pump and a Forte's dual master cylinder add to the car's form and function. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Rule number one of hot rodding: an excellent drivetrain isn't worth the metal it's built from unless it's paired with a competent chassis. Behind this Cobra's hot small block, a poly-mounted, McLeod- shrouded Tremec TKII 5-speed pairs a steel Ford Motorsport flywheel with a Weber clutch and Centerforce pressure plate. That tough transmission spins a custom Forte's driveshaft, which is hooked to a spry Ford 8.8-inch axle stuffed with 3.27 gears. That axle pushes a Factory Five 3-link that's outfitted with Koni coil-overs, a Vintage Performance Motorcars sway bar and a Vintage Performance Motorcars banana bracket. Opposite that rear end, an independent front-half hangs tubular control arms and two more Koni coil-overs between SN-95 Mustang spindles and a second Vintage Performance Motorcars sway bar. That suspension is guided by ATSCO power rack-and-pinion steering, which mixes a Flaming River lower shaft and Breeze Automotive bushings with Whitby's FAI modification and Forte's bump steer elimination. Stops come courtesy of manual disc brakes, which pair aluminum PBR calipers with two 13-inch drilled and slotted rotors and two 11.65-inch drilled and slotted rotors. Power meets the pavement through anthracite Bullitt wheels, which twist 255/40ZR17 Nitto NT05 street radials in front of 315/35ZR17 Nitto NT05 drag radials. And items like a high-torque mini starter, a custom driveshaft hoop, a quality Canton oil pan and a Trick Flow differential cover round out the car's impressive build. INTERIOR Take one look at the accompanying specs sheet and you'll see that this roadster was built to keep. And even though its cockpit still honors the purist nature of a no-nonsense, track-shredding sports car, many well-planned details ratchet up both comfort and appeal. Lightweight Kirkey seats stretch tight leather hides under heavy-duty safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a super clean dash founds reliable Auto Meter Pro Comp Ultra Lite telemetry between a 12-volt outlet, two brake proportioning knobs and a self-canceling Russ Thompson turn signal switch. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors hang Herb's custom panels inside Dark Water Customs sill trim. Below those doors, custom Loop Carpet anchors a North Racecars e-brake and Pro-5.0 shifter between a custom-dropped foot box and piped Factory Five floor mats. At the center of that carpet, a custom console balances stainless cupholders beneath crisp Alpine Type-S speakers. The driver feels the asphalt through a polished steering wheel, which laps assorted Russ Thompson foot pedals. The passenger stows cargo in a carpeted trunk, which balances a modern Alpine CD player opposite a brand new, billet-cinched Optima battery. And high quality Second Skin insulation works with power-operated Cobra Earl's foot box vents to combat the big engine's heat. The car's virtually flawless profile, showcasing the typically tight tolerances that have become a Factory Five hallmark, lays excellent groundwork for a wet looking coat of Ford Tungsten Gray 2-stage. Since pretty much every Cobra worth its salt needs to have some kind of war paint, the builder blended a classy pair of bright silver racing stripes. And today, this super slick Cobra is a sophisticated classic that exhibits twice the style and twice the race-bred DNA of a typical replicar boulevard cruiser. Speaking of sophistication, crude detailing is often the downfall of an otherwise excellent build. Not so with this roadster, as every aspect of its design enhances Shelby's innate style and appeal. At the front of the car, polished quick lifts reflect chrome-trimmed headlights, bullet-style parking lamps and a requisite Shelby emblem. Behind that emblem, a scooped, 1-piece hood flows to stainless-trimmed glass that's seated between polished wipers and Factory Five wind wings. Below those wings, finned air extractors, a bullet-style racing mirror and small "POWERED BY FORD" emblems float amid coated side pipes and a familiar Monza fuel filler. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed taillights illuminate a chrome roll bar, a second Shelby emblem, two more quick lifts and a lockable trunk handle. ENGINE When the original Cobra stormed the scene, team Shelby's mantra was all performance, all the way. And, while many reproductions hit the ground as sedate street cruisers, serious road chops require serious motor. Bored and stroked to a whopping 408 cubic inches, this roadster's serious chops come in the form of a spry, 351 cubic inch Windsor V8. The mean mill's energy mixture is supplied by a big Holley carburetor, which is sandwiched between an Edelbrock intake and traditional Cobra air cleaner. That mixture travels in to Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, which hang Cobra-branded valve covers and a Ford Racing breather over high quality roller rockers and forged Keith Black pistons. Combustion comes courtesy of a balanced and blueprinted rotating assembly, which is framed by a cast Eagle crank and Comp Xtreme Energy cam. The fires stay lit thanks to MSD 6AL ignition, an MSD distributor, a Pertronix coil and loomed Ford Racing plug wires. That fire is kept in check by a beefy aluminum radiator, which is mated to a big electric puller fan. A modern serpentine system spins a rebuilt alternator above an aluminum water pump while spent gases are cycled through ceramic-coated headers. And first rate details, like ARP bolts, stainless fluid lines and a liquid-filled Jegs fuel pressure gauge, ensure this classic is more than just a random curbside attraction. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION When it's time to put your hair in the wind, forget about outdated Toploader 4-speeds because this modern-day Cobra blisters the pavement with a fresh Tremec TKO600 5-speed. That world-class transmission utilizes a tough hydraulic clutch to spin a fresh, 8.8-inch Ford Racing pumpkin, which is fitted with 3.73 gears and high quality Moser axles. That drivetrain rides in a tubular, fabricated steel chassis that distills into a modern, multi-link suspension. That suspension is connected to four big calipers, which squeeze four vented discs. At the top of that buff power source, a Stellings & Hellings air cleaner feeds a coated Holley 4150 carburetor that's tethered to a lightweight aluminum intake. At the sides of that carburetor, high performance Edelbrock heads ride below chrome "427 FORD COBRA" valve covers. Beneath those heads, a 4-inch stroke crank combines with a Crane cam, Manley H-beam rods and custom, forged pistons to create stout 10.2 to 1 compression. That compression gets sparked by Accel Hi-Temp Super Stock Spiral Core wires, which snake to a Motorcraft distributor that's wired to a hot MSD ignition system. Beneath those wires, application-specific headers roll charred dinosaurs in to the aforementioned side pipes. And in front of those headers, a big Fluidyne radiator circulates water around a large puller fan and painted overflow tank. You'll be happy to know that the clean V8 has been properly seated in a satin aluminum bay. And you'll be excited to see details, like hard fluid lines, a remote oil filter and chrome dress-up items, that round out a very impressive engine display. 1967 SHELBY GT-500 This GT-500 has had a COMPLETE BODY OFF- FRAME OFF- NUT & BOLT PROFESSIONAL RESTORATION. The is a no hit, no rust no panel replacements of a complete original Shelby! Finished in its original Lime Gold the paint work is exquisite with excellent panel and door alignment. Maintains its original born with 428 c.i.d., dual four barrel carbs( both with their original carb .tags), C-6 automatic transmission ,rear end and drive train etc. Original parts were used during the restoration process as necessary. Interior is immaculate. The car is highly detailed down to factory markings. Certainly all the chrome, bright work and glass are excellent as one would expect. The car has its Marti Report and is in the Shelby registry as well.1967 was the last year for this true Shelby performance car as he intended. After 1967 they started to become toned down (1968-1970) in my opinion. Please don't mis-understand....they are all great powerful cars and are all part of the legend and history of Shelby! A sculpted hood anchors a small, ROUSH-branded scoop in front of locking latches and polished windshield wipers. Behind that hood, a tinted windshield hangs a small Backdraft Racing mirror in front of clear wind wings, dark-tint visors, a polished roll bar and a familiar, Monza-style fuel filler. At the sides of the car, polished and shielded exhaust pipes ride below stylish Ford emblems, finned air extractors and 3M quarter guards. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed tail lamps combine with a chrome tag light to illuminate a locking trunk handle and two more polished quick lifts. ENGINE This roadster's signage accurately advertises 427 cubic inches of American muscle. What it fails to convey is: instead of some romantic relic from a bygone era, would-be challengers are facing a fresh Roush Performance 427 R stroker motor that, during its 2010 dyno run, twisted 537 horsepower into 518 lb./ft. of torque! Built from the ground up as your ticket to major acceleration and killer speed, this stout mill is founded on an iron block, a steel crank, a roller cam, H-beam connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons. At the top of the smooth engine, a Roush Cobra Jet-style air cleaner mixes fresh oxygen with 93-octane pump gas that's supplied by braided fluid lines and a large Holley 4-barrel. That carburetor is bolted to an Edelbrock Victor Jr. 351W intake, which rides between aluminum, CNC-ported heads and sequential Roush valve covers. Fire is provided by an MSD Blaster SS coil, which is connected to an MSD Pro-Billet distributor and loomed Roush 9mm plug wires. Cooling comes courtesy of a screened radiator, which circulates water past a large electric puller fan and polished stainless overflow via polished stainless tubes and a coated pump. Ceramic-coated mild steel headers evacuate spent gases into 304 stainless side-pipes. And at the front of the block, a beefy serpentine system spins billet pulleys in front of a polished Powermaster alternator and polished power steering pump. Aesthetically, the hot engine looks right at home in the car's mirror-like bay. And well-planned details, like a chrome breather, a coated fuel pump and a beefy QuickTime bellhousing, are both functional and appealing. The car's excellent finish is a testament to both OEM quality and the true talent and vision of its current owner. Speaking of details, they're often the downfall of an otherwise excellent build. Not so with this roadster, as every aspect of its design enhances Shelby's innate style and appeal. At the front of the car, familiar bumperettes reflect chrome-trimmed headlights, bullet-style parking lamps and a classy Shelby emblem. At the front of that intake, a Crane distributor sequences fire through thick Champion Power Boost plug wires. Charge for that fire is provided a complete MSD HVC ignition system. Spark for that charge is provided by a small alternator, which, along with a massive water pump, spins on fresh V-belts. Lubrication comes courtesy of Peterson dry-sump components. A heavy duty aluminum radiator makes good use of a giant puller fan and polished overflow tank. There's a complete NOS nitrous system, in case you want to turn 'scary' into 'insane'. And the car's minimalist aluminum engine bay is nice and clean, featuring a painted hood, mirrored inner fenders and pertinent chassis identification. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION One of the best things about buying a high quality replica is the modern hardware underneath. MIG welded, TIG welded and completely powder-coated, this Shelby's Jig-made, ladder-style chassis and independent, BMW-style suspension are fully sorted and ready to hit the toughest track you can find. Behind the engine, a rugged Tremec 5-speed jerks a 4.25-inch Quarter Master Race Clutch, which is fed by a small Tilton fluid reservoir. All that jerking eventually makes its way to a modern rear end that's stuffed with stout, tire-chirping gears. Those gears are countered by power-assisted calipers, which squeeze four drilled and slotted discs. At the front of the car, fluid rack-and-pinion steering makes low speed parking almost as easy as high speed sweeps. Power meets the pavement through attractive Halibrand-style knock-offs, which twist 235/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 295/50R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As. And items like a beefy sway bar, Penske racing shocks, braided fluid lines and a passenger-friendly 92-inch wheelbase round out an already impressive track warrior. INTERIOR Cobra interiors are usually stalwart and simple, but this roadster's Beige leather cockpit is comfortable and appealing. Well-padded seats are firm, look as good as new and feature heavy duty Simpson harnesses for increased safety. ENGINE Like most Roush-branded creations, this Cobra features a supercharged and intercooled 4.6 liter Ford 'mod motor'. But, unlike most run-of-the-mill Roush mod motors, that engine, installed by the pros at Speed Fanatix of Boynton Beach, Florida, makes an incredible 600 horsepower! The TVS Technology ROUSHcharger is an Eaton-style blower that successfully manages on-track temperatures thanks to an air-to-liquid intercooler. At the side of that blower, a large induction system snakes around an Olive Green alternator and Aeromotive fuel componentry. Below that blower, a high performance Roush intake complements satin fuel rails, yellow Accel coil packs and Olive Green cam covers. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION When it's time to put your hair in the wind, forget about outdated Toploader 4-speeds because this modern-day Cobra blisters the pavement with a fresh Tremec TKO600 5-speed. That world-class transmission delivers power to a 3.46 limited-slip BMW rear end that creates whiplash-inducing acceleration while still allowing the car to loaf along at highway speeds. That drivetrain, which is bolted to a hot-rolled rectangular steel ladder-type chassis, sends power through the same BMW-sourced MacPherson strut front and fully independent rear suspension that's become a Backdraft hallmark. And thanks to that suspension's adjustable front stabilizer bar, fully adjustable rear ride height and BMW power steering system, you're getting a Cobra that has a performance threshold capable of humiliating much more expensive hardware. Brakes are drilled and slotted discs at all four corners that, thanks to this car's featherweight construction, are virtually impervious to fade. HISTORY When Corky Bell set out to build the world's most high tech Cobra, he assembled a talented cast of gearheads and began what would eventually be called Project Mongoose. A career engineer turned SCCA racer, Bell had acquired quite a reputation captaining brands like Japanese GT Cars, CarTech and the Bell Experimental Group. And that reputation, perpetuated through vast involvement in many different facets of automobilia, created plenty of contacts with top designers and engineers. Work primarily focused on creating athletic mechanicals that bettered the classic Cobra driving experience, and creating a cockpit that would actually sell to someone over average height. Ultimately, the build combined many high quality aftermarket components with a twin turbo V8, 11 custom cast parts and a slick Antiques & Collectibles composite body. And today, wearing a screaming coat of Bright Yellow urethane, the car rolls as a virtually timeless hot rod that looks like a 10 and drives like an 11! ENGINE Tilt the louvered hood and you'll find a professionally built Ford Windsor block that's been bored and stroked to 385 cubic inches. Churning 505 rear wheel horsepower into 540 lb./ft. of pavement-scorching torque, that proven mill wraps an Eagle crank, Eagle rods, forged JE pistons and a Crower hydraulic cam in a full array of track-ready ancillaries. Conical air cleaners whip 7.5 psi of wind through stainless, TIG-welded tubes and proven Garrett T4 turbochargers. Fossils flow from twin Pierburg pumps to 52 lb./hr. fuel injectors. At the top of the Cast Silver mill, billet throttle bodies front a custom Bell Experimental Group upper intake and Trick Flow lower intake. The aforementioned air and fuel make their way to aluminum Canfield cylinder heads, which hide Crower aluminum rockers and Crower hydraulic lifters under monochromatic valve covers. When those heads flood the cylinders, Electromotive TEC3 engine management sequences fire through high quality Electromotive coil packs. As combustion is sparked, resultant gases are jettisoned through waterjet-cut, Heliarc-welded headers into 3-inch, Mandrel-bent side pipes that were supplied by Burns Stainless. That combustion's cooling is provided by a custom Ron Davis radiator, which stores water in front of quick-spinning electric puller fans. And high quality componentry, like a MOCAL oil cooler, a Canton Road Race oil pan and TiAL wastegates, paints a concise representation of a very skilled, systematic approach to defining "the world's most high tech Cobra". DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION The best thing about this high quality, expertly built roadster is its ability to run circles around almost anything at the track. Take a look under the car and you'll find a rigid 2-inch square-tube frame that, in addition to providing 14-15K lb./ft. of deflection, places 57% of the car's weight over its rear axles. Numbers like that aren't mere coincidence, as Bell hired Ron Nash, the whiz formerly associated with Buick, Roush's Merkur program and Newman & Sharps Nissans, to design Project Mongoose's foundation. That monocoque-reinforced foundation makes good use of a Porsche G50/50 5-speed transaxle, which has been reversed, inverted and mounted between a custom driveshaft, a Porsche limited-slip differential and a familiar Centerforce clutch pack. Aside from providing excellent feel, that relatively modern transmission enables the car to achieve 60 MPH in first gear while being mild-mannered enough to chase freeway traffic in fifth. That incredible drivetrain rides on a fully independent suspension, which is fitted with Heim joints, Aldan coil-over-shocks and Woodward power rack-and-pinion steering. At the corners of that suspension, Baer 4-piston calipers clamp big, slotted rotors to provide consistent, sure-footed stops that are all day strong, all day long. And power meets the pavement via 17-inch Team III alloys that spin fresh 245/40 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As in front of 275/40 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As. INTERIOR Cobra interiors have always been simple, and one look inside the Mongoose reveals just how serious the car's aspirations are when it comes to being track-focused. Chopped Miata buckets stretch tight leather hides between 5-point Simpson safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a textured dash founds Racepak Data Systems telemetry above billet foot pedals that can be adjusted to the height of the driver in roughly an hour. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors frame steel intrusion bars in custom hinges and custom handles. Below those doors, clean carpet frames direct-mount seat brackets, which lower the driving position enough to accommodate operators up to 6'9" tall. That operator stays connected to the asphalt thanks to a leather-wrapped billet steering wheel and beefy Bell Experimental Group shifter. And the passengers' cargo stows in an aluminum-lined trunk that's fitted with an integrated battery cut-off. Step closer to that body's mirror-like pigment and check out its straight and ripple-free surfaces, which are a product of both clean OEM sheetmetal and high quality replacement parts. Grab the pivotal pieces of that well-adjusted sheetmetal and experience the kind of excellent fit that's right at home reflecting a summertime car show. Then step back to admire one well-done classic that's built to exacting specifications thanks to a great combination of skilled workmanship and first-rate finishing techniques. Shelby's GT line threw fuel on the muscle car fire by not only adding power, but also introducing some of the coolest and most aggressive Mustang design elements ever created. At the front of this coupe, a mesh grille hangs a familiar "SHELBY G.T. 350" emblem between big Ford driving lamps, clear headlights and a bright chrome bumper. At the top of that grille, an original Shelby hood leads the eye to chip-free glass, which is founded in mirrored stainless trim. Behind that glass, correct Shelby quarter scoops ride between small stainless mirrors and a correct, SHELBY-branded decklid. At the sides of that decklid, a straight profile hangs correct Shelby cove scoops between traditional door handles and clean GT350 emblems. Now that you've waded through all the flowery prose about paint and stainless trim, it's time to get down to business. Lift this Shelby's lightweight hood and you'll find an original, 289 cubic inch small block V8 that displays a correct C5AE-6015E casting number below a February (B) 15th (15), 1967 (7) casting date. Completely rebuilt during the car's extensive restoration, that storied Cobra Hi-Riser twists stout 10.5 to 1 compression into an impressive 306 horsepower! At the top of the rugged Windsor block, a correctly decaled air cleaner jams oxygen into a correct aluminum intake via correct Holley carburetion. At the sides of that intake, high performance heads hang attractive Cobra crinkle-finish valve covers between a chrome Ford breather and stainless Tri-Y headers. The engine's fires are lit by a traditional points distributor, fresh plug wires, Autolite plugs and a familiar Autolite coil. That fire is kept at bay by a correct Extra Cooling Package, which includes new FoMoCo hoses, reproduction tower clamps and a fresh FoMoCo radiator. Pressure for that radiator comes courtesy of new V-belts, which spin a rebuilt water pump between a deep-groove Autolite alternator and correct power steering. And the whole process is kicked into motion by an Autolite-topped battery, which jolts current through snazzy Autolite cables. Aesthetically, this Mustang's exceptionally detailed engine bay appears very close to original, featuring an even combination of Ford Blue and Satin Black paint under correct Ford decals. And everything, from the car's fresh brake booster to its Carter fuel pump, is fully-sorted and virtually spotless. Take one look under this awesome GT350 and you'll find exceptionally clean, expertly detailed floors that are every bit as solid as the car's straight exterior panels. Inside this killer pony car's impressive cockpit you'll find a stylish deluxe interior that was completely reconstructed during the car's stellar restoration. Naturally, Shelby focused most of his energy on the performance and exterior appearance of the car; and when those attributes were combined with Ford's already excellent interior, it paid big dividends. The first thing you'll notice is an old school wood-rimmed and satin-trimmed steering wheel that spins around a silver GT350 centerpiece. Above that steering wheel, a great looking dash founds a correct 140 MPH speedometer next to a correct 8,000 RPM tachometer. In front of that dash, plush vinyl buckets, which probably haven't broken double digit hours in seat time, present no evidence of sun damage or rot. Beneath those seats, new black carpet and bright stainless sills center a simple shifter between a chrome fire extinguisher, thick rubber mats and authentic Stewart Warner gauges. Above that carpet, a sturdy black roll bar hangs correct shoulder belts below a fade-free headliner. At the sides of that roll bar, stylish door panels feature excellent stainless trim, spotless chrome handles and fresh silver accents. And behind the passengers, familiar Shelby vents ride above a folding rear seat and correctly restored trunk.
