2003 Mazda MAZDASPEED Protege It was only in 2003 that Mazda produced the Protégé Mazdaspeed model and this vehicle is, we are sure, the most outstanding example of this fine automobile. The owner was a true enthusiast who purchased the vehicle in stock condition and addressed the few concerns that other Mazdaspeed owners commented on to make this car even better. The automobile was never raced, or driven hard for that matter, but the results of a few changes made this car far superior to the stock Mazdaspeed models. The mechanical expertise shown by this aficionado is well demonstrated with this project. While the stock Mazdaspeed produced 170 horsepower at 6,000 RPMs with 160 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,500 RPMs, the enthusiast knew that a larger intercooler and a less restricted exhaust would increase these numbers and he was proven to be correct. Although the improved specs are not known, it is obvious from driving this vehicle that a tremendous improvement is noted over the stock Mazdaspeed. The Mazdaspeed Protégé came with many features unique to this model over the base Protégé models: A 5-speed transmission was standard and this vehicle benefits from a newly added performance clutch. The exhaust piping was increased to 2.5 inches resulting in a much less restricted flow. The system uses a MagnaFlow muffler for increased power. The standard intercooler was changed to a much larger front mounted Corksport model along with a Corksport cold air intake. The stock intake manifold was replaced with a ported manifold for better performance. Although this set-up negatively affects cold start-ups, it adds plenty of power when the engine is warm. A Split Second AFC (air fuel controller) was installed. ABS braking is standard on this vehicle and the existing pads are in excellent condition. The Mazdaspeed models came with 4 wheel independent suspension and this was improved upon by the addition of TEIN lowering springs. The Racing Hart alloy wheels are in excellent condition and hold a set of Fuzion Sport UHP tires with very little mileage on them. All power equipment works exactly as designed and the air-conditioner blows ice-cold air. The standard limited slip differential on the Mazdaspeeds proved to be of a weak design but this vehicle will not have that problem due to the enthusiast’s improvement. The current demand for the Mazda MAZDASPEED Protégé is very high but the availability of excellent, not “beat-up” models is very scarce. 2013 Genesis Sedan 3.8, extremely clean luxury car that my wife and I have enjoyed since September of 2014. It has been a problem free 30,000 miles for us and an absolute pleasure owning this vehicle. People compliment us frequently and still ask us what manufacturer it is because the car has been fully rebadged (new winged emblems front, rear, wheels, and steering wheel). We are about to purchase a 40' travel RV and begin a new adventure traveling the United States for the next year and have no need of this vehicle any longer. Our tow behind car will be our little convertible Chrysler Crossfire. If you are looking for a stylish luxury class vehicle that is priced right, maintained well, and ready to be enjoyed than I believe this would make a terrific holiday gift for yourself. The car was 'in serviced in July of 2013" which indicates that there is still 8 months or 800 miles of factory warranty. Just a bit of piece of mind. Enterprise leasing was the original owner of this car and it came to our attention during our sales process that sometime during that first year it had been involved in some minor incident requiring the rear passenger door/rear fender to get repainted. It did not show on the Carfax at the time of our purchase but in case it has not been updated I wanted to inform you of it and that the Job was well done! I called Autocheck and they said the auction would have to send them notification in order for any change to be made to the report.
