I bought this car about 10 years ago for $3,800 with the intent to rebuild it. It's the model that was in all of the 80's movies so my imagination ran wild. However, life got in the way and the rebuild never happened. Now, I need the garage space. I bought it off of a fighter pilot that was being relocated to the West Coast and his wife wanted it gone. That's all I know of the history other than it was titled at one time in Hawaii and it has Washington plates. I never titled or attempted to register the vehicle. I don't have the title and will give you a bill of sale. You will need to get a bonded title which costs a few hundred bucks. Or you can part it out. The interior, aside from dust, is in restorable shape. I would drive it around the block every few weeks until about 2 years ago when my laziness took over. It will start back up with a jump and will run rough. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the car. If you want a father/son restoration project that will be the envy of all of your friends...this is it.

In 1989, Porsche released a cabriolet version of their immensely popular 944 4-cyl performance coupe. To accomplish this, they incorporated panels from the Turbo model, and the top-down experience of the iconic Porsche Speedsters. They immediately attracted a devout following, and have remained highly sought after vehicles from Porsche’s vast production history. This example is a 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet in Guards Red with the Black soft-top; a highly popular color combination on any Porsche, but especially stunning on the 944. Originally ordered with the optional heated leather seats, an $1,137 extra cost, it was sold for a MSRP of $50,392, which is $91,740 in today’s dollars (adjusted for inflation). Not a cheap car like a Miata MX-5 or BMW Z3. The car has been meticulously been maintained and has service records of everything including oil changes and spark plugs. With the odometer showing just 83,367, this car has had a very quiet life; no hot-rodding, wrecks, or damages. Being only 1 of 1,824 US-spec 944-S2 models built in 1990, this is a very rare car and certainly draws a lot of attention wherever it goes. The car has been very well taken care of over the years, the top is still the original piece, with no major damage, stains, or marks. There are two areas where the top mechanism has worn through the material, leaving small slits that shouldn’t be too hard to repair; the back window has slight scratches and swirl marks, but is not cracked or discolored. Due to concerns about the electrical components that these cars utilized for top operation, it has been converted to manual operation and goes up and down smoothly with ease. When down, the original boot fastens over the top using the factory snaps. It also shows no stains, or damage and really looks fabulous cruising around with the wind in your hair. The body is extremely solid, the car was originally sold in Kansas and has always been garaged and kept clean of mud, dirt, and rain. No signs of corrosion, damage, or modifications can be seen anywhere on the car. From evidence around the door jambs, we surmise that portions of the car have been repainted in the past, but the blending is very well done and the respray is only noticeable under very intense scrutiny to areas like door sills, or trunk seals. Overall, the paint is very glossy, with slight hazing in areas that will most likely buff right out with some attention. Decals at the rear are still bright and clean, no signs of tearing, fading, or wear to the vinyl graphics. The trunk floor is all still factory original, with the space-saver spare tire still in it’s nest. Included in the trunk as well is an accessory Bra to match the covers that are on the mirrors, and a Porsche-badged air-compressor that came with the car. The interior of this 1990 Porsche 944 S2 is all original; the aforementioned heated leather seats are very comfortable, yet are showing slight wear, especially on the passenger-seat’s seams. While not a major deal, these can easily be repaired by an upholstery shop just to make sure that they don’t get any worse. Otherwise, the carpets, dash, and back seats are all exceptionally clean and damage free. The factory BlauPunkt radio got locked somehow in the past, but it can easily be made operational by entering in the factory reset code, which is readily available by Porsche suppliers. The drivetrain of this 944 recently underwent an extensive inspection and several repairs were made at the time. The majority of the fuel system was replaced, to prevent any issues in the future with starting, idling, or performance. Items like the relays, pumps, and filters were either replaced, or professionally cleaned and restored to factory condition. The same approach was taken with other common maintenance areas like belts, pulleys, and accessories; all have now been checked off as repaired, or marked for future maintenance checks. As mentioned before, there is a whole folder of papers that document all the repairs, upgrades, and changes done to this car in it’s lifetime. Engine now shifts very smoothly, runs like a dream, and has zero performance issues whatsoever. Overall, this is a car that has been lovingly maintained throughout it’s life, and while it may not be the most “perfect” 944 Cabriolet on the market, it certainly is in amazing shape and runs like a champ! Of course, there are always going to be small things that can go wrong or be not quite right, so I’ll let the photos show the car’s condition. There are small little scratches, chips, or issues here-and-there in the car, but overall, the car is ready to go on your next trip! PaymentUpon completion of the auction, the winning bidder has 48hrs to provide the $500 down payment and contact us regarding shipping and final payment. Final payment can be in the form of a Certified Cashier's Check, Bank Wire Transfer, or Cash in-person. ShippingAll shipping is the sole responsibility of the buyer, I have worked with Fedex Passport, and Reliable Carriers in the past and I can forward contact information, but I will not be able to transport the vehicle for you.Vehicle must be picked up within 3-weeks of auction ending. Afterwards, a surcharge of $15/day will be assessed to cover our storage expenses. Should these fees accumulate, they must be paid in-full prior to vehicle pick-up (Bank Wire Transfer, Cashier's Check, or PayPal is accepted for storage fees) DisclaimerWe have done our best to describe the vehicle as clearly and honestly as possible, if you have ANY concerns, please e-mail or call me before bidding. We have also laid out our payment and shipping requirements, if you have ANY questions about those, please contact me prior to bidding. Placing a bid and/or being the high bidder at auction end, signifies an understanding and agreement to these terms. Thanks for your cooperation.

I bought this Porsche for my son for his 16 birthday he was really into 944's. He drove it for about 2 months and loved it. I realized that kids up at the high school did not care about the car next to them. It started to get a few door dings from other people up at the school. So rather than let a 80's icon be abused we fixed most of the dings and moved the car to the garage. We are the third owners; this car was an overseas delivery that the first owner picked up of in Germany and drive around for a few months and then sent back to Santa Barbra Ca. We still have the original oval license plate from Germany that will remain with the car. Since we have had the car we have done a few upkeep items to the car. We have installed a new radiator in due to small leak in original radiator; AC did not work when we received the car we had the compressor rebuilt/upgraded to the current 134 standards. It still has the origanl air pump and first aid kit that came with the car from the factory. This car has had the power steering rack and pinion taking off on the second owner's watch. It was replaced with a highly sought after racing manual rack and pinon that makes a blast to drive. The timing belt and the water pump where replaced around 10000 miles ago. The entire car has been inspected by a Porsche qualified Service Technician, all belts are within normal limits.

With lots of recent maintenance and a look that still turns heads, you probably can't have more fun than this for so little cash. Guards Red is the penultimate Porsche color and few Porsches wear it better than the 944. A distinct change from the rear-engined, air-cooled 911, it still carries all the Porsche hallmarks: impressive performance, great build quality, and iconic looks. The wedge shape has aged well and thanks to Porsche's attention to detail, it still looks great. Sure, the paint is showing some age but people are still going to think you inherited some cash when you show up in this car. Body gaps are excellent, as is typical with these cars, and things like the urethane bumpers and deep front air dam are still in good shape. Details like the black bumper overriders, door handles, and rear spoiler are a bit faded, but that's because this car spent most of its life in a warm, dry climate where the sun was out all the time, which is only good news for the steel underneath. It's been used as a daily driver, which is not a problem for these ultra-reliable machines, but it has also been properly maintained and it shows. The black leather interior has an inviting, purposeful look that's a hallmark of Porsche design. If it didn't make the car work better, they didn't bother. As a result, you get supportive high-back bucket seats, well-positioned controls, a fat leather-wrapped steering wheel, and arguably the best shifter ever built. There's some wear on the driver's chair, surely commensurate with the car's age and mileage, but it still holds you in place and has a handsome look. Big, clear gauges are easy to read at a glance, although in typical Porsche fashion, many of the secondary controls are kind of cryptic. No worries, though, because once you figure it out, you'll discover that the A/C still blows cold, the power windows go up and down, and the sunroof lets in plenty of light. The stereo has thankfully been upgraded to a modern AM/FM/CD head unit with big speakers in the rear hatch area, and it sounds great. The back seat is reasonably sized, and you can always drop the seats to make the trunk area truly cavernous. The 944's naturally aspirated 2.5 liter inline-four doesn't make big horsepower numbers, but it's plenty potent enough to make the lightweight 944 a ton of fun when the road starts to twist. This car isn't about sheer speed (although it's plenty quick), but rather the balance between acceleration, handling, and braking that make it one of the most consistently beloved cars of all time. The engine has been properly maintained, which is obviously critical on a Porsche, and had its timing belt changed just 5000 miles ago. The list of new equipment includes the A/C compressor and condenser, clutch, radiator, water pump, motor mounts, master cylinder, and fuse panel, so it's all sorted and ready to rock. It's not detailed under the hood, but it's fully functional, and the same is true underneath, where there are no nasty surprises awaiting you. The brakes remain powerful and confidence-inspiring and the handsome "phone dial" wheels carry new tires all around. I have a 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo with 5 speed manual transmission. Power steering, power brakes, power windows and power lift roof. Also the car has a fresh motor and transmission from a low mileage 944 Turbo. The front seats are newly reupholstered with a new dash kit. New windshield. The mods on the car: vented brakes, camber thrust, Lindsey racing supports and Koni shocks. The vehicle runs and drives well and would make a great daily driver or track car. The car needs some minor paint repair (see pics). A/C works. A $500.00 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close.Car is sold "as-is" with no warranty.
