The 944 was on Car and Drivers Ten best list from 1983 to 1985. In 1984, Car and Driver named the 944 "Best Handling Production Car in America". These iconic cars were featured all over the big screen. Jake Ryan would never have made the impact he did were it not for his complimentary "Guards Red" Porsche 944. The movie was Sixteen Candles. In the year 1985 a total of 23,720 Porsche 944's were built. Europe and the rest of the world gobbled up 17,553 of those, while the U.S. was shipped only 6,167 in total.
