Up for bidding is a factory slant nose 1985.5 Porsche 944, 2.5L, 5-speed stick shift, with great 25mpg. Please do not bid unless you already have the funds. As the last would-be buyer found out, any deposit made will be forfeited if the sale is not completed. This spring, due to the settlement of an estate, we found ourselves proud owners of this lifetime California Porsche, which has had only 1 adult owner. It was just shipped to us this March, and is completely rust free, with extremely low original mileage. It has never seen snow or salt, at all, in it's lifetime. If you don't already know, please do some internet research to fully understand the huge differences in the 1985 Porsche 944 model year. In a rarely seen automotive move, Porsche fully changed the 944 in the middle of the 1985 model year. This is the later half 1985 model with a slew of pricey factory upgrades, from the complete suspension to the complete interior. You do not want an early 1985 or prior year 944! This Porsche spent years in long term indoor storage. When it was brought out of storage a few years ago, it was mechanically restored to factory new. I have all of the original California based receipts to show that thousands of dollars in mechanical work was done since that time to fix any and all issues to make it mechanically perfect. This car really is minted out mechanically, with anything that even looked old being replaced. Car is very mechanically sound, with strong responsive engine, it does not leak oil, it does not overheat, transmission shifts smoothly in all gears. It always starts right up and drives straight, it both runs and handles like new. You just won't believe how well it drives and rides! The interior burgundy Recaro seats, door panels, and carpet are great. All of the options work (clock, windows, locks, cruise, pwr seat, sunroof, air, headlight doors, etc.), and all glass is good. The a/c is ICE COLD. Car drives very tight, just like a Porsche should. Car comes with factory sunroof (can lift up or remove), JVC cd player with Alpine speakers, the car was factory black and the body has been Plasti-coat upgraded in a stylish satin black look. All 4 tires are brand new. It also comes with the original Porsche factory owners manual. The body does have a couple minor parking lot kind of dings as would be expected with a 1985 car. The dash top does have some minor typical Porsche cracking, but the few dash cracks are thin, not some monster gorges with foam sticking out. Overall, while not showroom perfect, you would be hard pressed to find a lower original mileage and completely rust free 944 anywhere. The car shows very well and looks quite impressive for 30 years old. You can drive it home anywhere. 1986 Zermatt Silver Porsche 944Up for sale is my 1986 Porsche 944. I purchased the car about 6 months ago and have realized that with two kids in heading to college, I should probably simplify things a bit. The car is in very nice condition. The body is an 8 out of 10...no rust anywhere. The car spent most of its life in California and has about 75,000 miles on it. I have always kept it in the garage and the only water to touch it came from a hose when it was washed. CarFax is clean and will confirm mileage and condition.The Exterior:The paint is nice and was redone at some point, although I am not certain when. The previous owner died and his wife told me that it was repainted about three years ago. They did a pretty nice job, the car is a real head turner. The only spot that need attention is the passenger side front spoiler, which is scratched from scraping again a curb at some point. It needs to be touched up, but it is not damaged. The rear spoiler also appears to have been replaced recently and is not faded at all. The glass is in great shape; no scratches or chips or cracks. One thing I was looking for on a 944 were the Fuchs Wheels, which I had on my 911 and feel are the best looking vintage Porsche wheels out there. Tires have a ton of life on them.The Interior:The seats are all in tact, with no rips or tears. The power seat adjuster on the drivers side works fine, the passenger seat is manual. The dash itself is cracked, but I installed a custom dash cover from Coverlay and it looks stock (see pictures). The car came with an aftermarket radio that was not particularly attractive, so I replaced it with a new Blaupunkt head unit (Blaupunkt is the brand originally installed on the car). I also installed new 6x9 Blaupunkt speakers in the rear of the luggage compartment (sounds nice). The power windows work great on both sides and the sunroof vent works fine as well. The sunroof is made to be removed, but I have not been able to remove it and never really investigated the problem. The shifter and boot could be replaced, but they work fine, so I never got around to it.The Mechanics:The car starts right up and is a pleasure to drive. It isn't "off the line" fast like many of todays cars, but it is very spirited and gives you a feel of the road that in my opinion is lacking in today's cars. When I purchased the car I had to replace the transmission damper, which is a common problem with these cars after about 75,000 miles. The part was replaced by a very good transmission shop at a cost of nearly $2,000. The AC works fine, but the climate control does not allow you to turn the heat on. I am not sure what is wrong, but since I only would drive it in the summer, I wasn't worried about it. The wife of the previous owner told me that the timing belt had been replaced, but that she did not know if there were any records, I cannot tell you for certain. What I can tell you is that I have inspected it and it looks good. Also, there are no leaks from the engine or transmission. I replaced the brake pads about 1,000 miles ago, but the brakes still have a bit of a squeak to them when you stop. They work great and probably need to have the rotors redone. I have a full set of calipers that I planned to put on and will give them to whomever wants the car.In all, the car is great and I really like it. I hope to buy another one soon, but for now she has to go.
