You are viewing an extremely rare PHS DOCUMENTED, all ORIGINAL , VERY highly optioned 1969 Firebird 400 Convertible! I have viewed hundreds of 1969 Firebird 400 cars over the years, including many convertibles, and have seen very few that were all original like this one and have never seen one with as many options as this one has! I looked for years before finding this one, but now my life is going in a different direction so I have decided to sell it. I am certain I will never find one like it again. I purchased this car about 9 years ago and have had it in storage ever since with the hopes that each year I would be able to start the restoration on it and it would become my dream car. I have a copy of the PHS documents showing that it is the real thing and has its original 330 HP numbers matching engine. Even the rear end, intake manifold, radiator, air conditioning, carburetor etc.. are all original. (I'm not sure about the transmission, the numbers on it are 47B103197, which does not match the vin on the car.) If you are not sure how rare this is, just take a look at closed auctions on e-Bay, classic car ads, car shows etc. and you will find that almost ALL of the "1969 Firebird 400" cars either have a 350, 428, or some other engine in them that is not a 400, or is a "period correct" 400 with a similar date, but is not the original engine. Many times the engine has been modified or "hopped up" by changing the heads, intake, or any number of other internal parts. This engine is all original...I checked all of the numbers and they match for this engine. If by some very rare chance you DO find a true numbers matching car, and you DO find it in a convertible, you just won't find it with the options this car has. This car is one of a kind. I did some research a while back and found a site on the net that says that GM built 76,000 hard top 1969 Firebirds, but only 11,649 convertibles, and the vast majority of the convertibles were NOT 400 optioned. Most had 350, 326 engines etc.. They only built 6,921 cars that had the YT engine code in BOTH hard top AND convertible. If you go by percentages on the convertible versus hard top production numbers that means that GM may have only built around 1,000 YT code 1969 Firebird convertibles, and I am sure only a handful, or fewer, with this many options. How many do you think still exist today...45 years later? This may very well be the only 1969 YT code Firebird convertible left with this may options. Below is a list of the ORIGINAL Factory Options this car has. The options listed below are on the PHS documents for this car and are FACTORY GM OPTIONS, and don't include any dealer installed options! 1.) Convertible Top 2.) 400 Engine Option (with original chrome valve covers etc.) 3.) Air Conditioning 4.) Turbo Hydramatic 400 Transmission. 5.) Power Bucket Seat 6.) Fold Down Rear Seat 7.) Custom Sport Steering Wheel 8.) Tilt Steering 9.) Factory Special Paint (A very beautiful Windward Blue, not the color it was later repainted) 10.) Power Top 11.) Cruise Control (A VERY Rare Option!) 12.) AM/FM Stereo Radio w/ Multiplex System 13.) Dual Horns 14.) Chrome Pedal Trim 15.) Power Windows (On all 4 windows) 16.) Under Hood Light 17.) Power Radio Antenna (This unit is missing, but does come up on eBay.) 18.) Door Edge Guards 19.) Remote Mirror 20.) Custom Rally II Wheels 21.) Custom Wood Grain Center Console 22.) Power Steering With Optional High Performance Variable Ratio Steering Box 23.) Power Disk Brakes 24.) Tinted Glass 25.) Custom Floor Mats Front 26.) Custom Floor Mats Rear 27.) Luggage Lamp In Trunk 28.) Locking Steering That’s 28 options that are listed on the PHS sheet for this car!! There are a few other options that I guess are a part of the main options for this car that are not mentioned, such as the nice factory dash clock, arrow head emblem on the front bumper, acorn chrome and black lug nuts, front chrome grill surrounds etc.,--over 32 options that I found in all! This is not mentioning the dealer options that this car may have originally had that I don't know about. Although it needs a lot of work before you take it out on the road, this Firebird will run and drive! After sitting for many years before I bought it, I was not sure how much it would take to get it running again, but after putting some new points, and a rotor and cap on it I fired it up and it ran. It was a little rough at first, and then it got smoother and smoother as it warmed up. After a bit of tinkering it would start right up and idle and run pretty well. The ignition switch doesn't work for some reason, so I jump start it. The turbo 400 seems to shift solid and work as it should. The power steering, emergency brake, regular brakes etc. seem to work ok also. The brakes leak around the master cylinder so it does need some new brake parts. I drove it back and forth in the yard and spun the tires a couple times for kicks and although it needs a tune-up, it ran pretty well for sitting for so long. The engine didn't have any noises of any kind and seem to be solid. I was getting ready to go out on the main road into town with it when I decided to take a look underneath to make sure it was not leaking any fluids of any kind when I noticed it had gas leaking out of the fuel line on the rear frame and also some from a rubber hose on the right side under the engine. I immediately shut it down. It's a good thing I looked, or the whole thing could have gone up in a ball of flames! I didn't realize it, but after closer inspection noticed that the metal fuel line is badly rusted and needs to be completely replaced. I was going to replace it, but I have been very busy with work etc. so I will let the new owner do it. It's too bad, because I think it would have been fun to drive it down the main road for a while. Now I want to make sure you realize that this car needs a COMPLETE frame-off restoration. It has a LOT of rust and body putty in it. As you can see in the photos it needs just about everything repaired, restored, or replaced. The doors shut, but they need to be lined up better, and the floor boards, quarter panels, trunk pan etc. need to be replaced. Like I mentioned earlier, it will run and drive and seems mechanically solid, but I must be honest with you and say that the rest of the car is in pretty bad shape. Don't plan on driving this car home. It has to be trailered or put on a car hauler or a tow dolly for shipping. Like most cars that need to be restored, some parts on this car look nice, and other areas are completely shot. The frame rails look ok to me, but the body panels (rear quarters, fenders and floor boards) are in really bad shape and need to be replaced. In spite of all of this, the dash pad, rare wood grain sport steering wheel, folding rear seat, and some other things look good...go figure. I do have quite a few parts that go with the car, including a brand new windshield for the cracked one that is in it, a new quarter panel, new carpeting and a few other parts. Other than the front windshield the rest of the glass looks like it is in pretty good shape and doesn't need to be replaced. The power seat works but needs to be lubricated. I had 3 of the power windows working with some assistance but now I can't get any of them to work so I think there's a bad connection someplace. I was moving some wiring around to get the interior lights to work, so I think I must have bumped the connection for the windows or something. The stock remote mirror works fine. The power top works but does need a push in a few spots and one of the rams is leaking. The rare AM/FM Multiplex Stereo radio did turn on and seemed to work fine and picked up the local stations, and the flip dial seems to work well too. However, I recently turned it on and couldn't get anything, so I think I must have disconnected the power somehow (along with the electric windows) when I was working on the interior lights. The power antenna is missing, but I can see where it was mounted in the trunk and you do see them come up on e-Bay from time to time so they are available. (I think the same ones were used for Camaros, too.) I can go on and on about this car, but I guess the best thing to do is to tell you to take a close look at the photos, and especially the one of the PHS sheet so you can see this is the real thing, and please don't hesitate to ask any and all questions and I will do my best to answer them. This is an EXTREMELY rare car, and I REALLY want this car to go to a special home where it will be completely restored to its former glory. Please remember though, this is a big project, so don't plan on getting it in top shape for a car show in a few months, it will take a lot of time and work. I have tried to be honest in my description (the guy I bought the car from did not tell me about most of this stuff) and if I think of anything else I will add it to the description. That said, when you are done you will have one of the rarest, most special and highly-optioned, NUMBERS MATCHING Firebird 400 Convertibles in the country!! It will be really sad to see it go. I spent a lot of time (years!) looking for this special car, but now maybe you can do what I can't and give it what it truly deserves....a complete restoration and a new home where it will be pampered and taken to car shows. :) Finally, this car does come with a clear Oregon title in my name. I will assist in the loading of this car on your trailer or the trailer of the shipper you send out to pick it up. I will need $500 deposit from the buyer, and the car must be paid for and picked up within three weeks of the listing's end unless arrangements are made beforehand you commit to buy the car. Thanks for viewing this listing! Please note: You can find many additional photos of this car on the following link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/127234480@N05/sets/72157648645463738/
