This is the last and best year for the Fiero, and if you are reading this, most likely you already know the historical significance of this one year only GM car from its unique space frame inner construction to its marriage of flex and hard outer body panels that give it its good looks. All fieros made prior to 1988 had leftover parts from discontinued GM cars (citation/chevette and all its cousins) in their assembly, leaving their owners wanting better performance and handling. For 1988 Gm spent some 40 million dollars to give the 88 GT upgraded suspension handling and performance improvements making it into a world class competitor , produced the car a few months, then pulled the plug on production making it a one year only car. Road and Track/Car and Driver along with various other car publications told its readers to go out and buy one and put it away as it was destined to be a future collector car. This is what we have here, a 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT that was bought and put away in 1988,a true time capsule that was purchased from the previous owner who moved and lost storage, all 100% original except for ac refrigerant (changed ac to r134 as r12 no longer available). I’m the second owner of this 1988 Fiero GT. I bought the car with 65,000 miles on it about 15 years ago and have maintained and improved it over the years. Minor additions include stainless steel brake lines & grippier sintered pads, Billstein shocks, K&N air filter and external scoop, replaced motor mounts with more rigid variety, heavy duty clutch, air conditioner compressor, replaced plastic bushings in rack and pinion steering rack with bronze bushings and probably some things I can’t think of. I now have 105,000 miles on the car. It’s had Castrol 20/50 replaced every 3,000 miles and burns almost no oil between changes. For those who don’t already know, Pontiac redesigned the suspension and braking systems for the 1988 model year to make the Fiero GT better for their race program, it’s the one to own if you intend to collect for future value. The only things needing repair are the back panel of the driver’s seat and the cruise control. Tires are good and relatively new. It was originally red and the new yellow paint is a stock Corvette color, professionally done for over $4,000. The original owner gave me the shop manual and some original paperwork with the car. FieroGTBackground In case you're not familiar with "the Fiero Story", Fieros are historically significant vehicles. It was the first domestically-produced mid-engined car (the only one, until Ford introduced the Ford GT in 2005) and the last Pontiac produced in Pontiac, Michigan. General Motor's intent behind the Fiero project was to give Pontiac its own high-tech sportscar (like Chevrolet has the Corvette). In order to keep the project cost-effective, there were two distinct models: the basic Fiero ( with a Miata-like personality and price) and the Fiero GT. The GT grew out of the base model's structure and would eventually have its own unique suspension, engine and bodywork. As such, the Fiero (especially the GT) evolved significantly between its introduction in 1984 and the final model in 1988. For the GT, the 4-cylinder engine was replaced with a V-6, the 4-speed transmission replaced by the slick-shifting, durable Getrag/Muncie 5-speed, and the "GM parts-bin" suspension, replaced by a 1.5 million dollar set-up that was developed on a race track. This suspension was engineered to be compatible with the very high output motors (probably a version of the Northstar) that would have gone into the car in 1990.Pontiac's goal was to make the Fiero as similar as possible to the Ferrari 308. Compared to the Ferrari, the Fiero GT has shorter overhangs, a longer wheelbase, and is wider, with plenty of tire for the weight of the car. Car & Driver called the Fiero "One of the best cars in America" and rated it in their top ten . It was the first American car to win in IMSA GTU, and won well over 40 races in the 36 months it raced, beating the Corvette and Ford Mustang in 1985. (On a skidpad the Fiero GT hit .84-.86g on the skidpad to the Ferrari Testarossa's .84g) In an unfortunate cost-cutting move, then-CEO Roger Smith closed the Fiero plant in 1988. Unlike other Pontiac models which shared assembly lines with one another, the Fiero had its own separate operation. 1988 was the last production year for the Fiero, and only a few thousand V-6 models like this one were produced. Only about half of them were five-speed.

I am looking at selling my Ferrari 328 GTB Replica. The platform is a 1985 Fiero GT 4 speed. There was over $50K spent on this very well documented build, which consisted of $17,157.03 for the car, exterior kit, body work, and paint...suspension $1,770.20...interior $22,411.53...engine $747.47...stereo $5,946.39...alarm $1,989.50. Unlike most Ferrari replicas, my car has the interior completely converted as well. All work was performed by professional shops in Kansas City, MO. I have three 3 inch binders which documents the build and all receipts for every nut and bolt invested into this car. Literally this is the most documented car that I have ever owned. The project took 1 1/2 years to complete. The car is a perfect candidate for an LSX engine conversion or 3800SC GM V6. The car drives and handles very well.
