A few years ago I decided to restore my numbers matching Pepper Green 1970 GTO 455 PHS Documented Air Conditioned 2nd owner beauty. It was a no-brainer to give the car the attention she deserved. I was well aware from the Fremont, California factory where the car was built ( 20 minutes from my home) that it was a rare and well equipt Muscle Car. Not only did it come from the factory a nice car, it still retained all the correct pieces that makes it a true one of a kind investment. Things such as the original 455 H.O. Engine, TH400 Transmission and 12 Bolt Positraction rear end all the way down to the California only special edition Rochester Emissions Carburetor, distributor and water pump. The car also has a factory stereo ( one speaker in the front and one in the rear!) that was a stereo back then. Power Windows, Power Disk Brakes, Tilt Wheel, A/C, Vinyl Top, Rally Wheels In 2014 the car received a full disassembly, including a 12k rotisserie paint job while keeping all the factory sheetmetal. There was also several thousand wrapped up in powder coating the frame and suspension prior to installing the new bushings and associated parts . The rear end and transmission were completely rebuilt at local shops and the engine was rebuilt at a local Pontiac engine building specialist. These were just the major items done and does not account for numerous other tedious projects to get the car back in order. All and all there is in excess of 60k invested that should hopefully keep her good for another 40-50 years. During the project I had Ram Air parts installed for personal reasons as well as to help her breathe as well as possible. ( air cleaner with pull cable/functional factory hood scoops as well as larger ram air exhaust manifolds into Pypes stainless steel exhaust) The car starts right up, runs, drives, stops just like it should and has plenty of power to make the ride fun. Just like it should be. The car also has 15" wheels with radial tires, under the new NOS Pontiac " Pleasurizer" gas shocks. It makes for a much nicer ride. If you prefer the original 14" rally wheels, of course I did keep them for the purist. Over the years I have watched many cars for sale that claim to "nut and bolt restorations" fully rebuilt cars with price tags to match, only to find partial rebuilds and unhappy buyers. I had this car built with the intentions of keeping it for a lifetime. NOTHING on the car was untouched. This is an investment quality car. Even though it was built for personal satisfaction, it will easily bring home 1st place in local shows and most likely do very well wherever you take it. Now, The question I am sure I'm going to get first and foremost....WHY ARE YOU SELLING THIS CAR? I was diagnosed with a medical condition that is taking a lot out of me financially and physically...I am in the process of downsizing. Simple as that. The car has a clear title free of liens. 1961 Pontiac Catalina Convertible- partially restored-now out of money must sell. Runs but doesn’t drive. Rare 1966 421 engine (block code WG casting # 9782611 casting date C246) - outfitted for SD with Superduty manifold (# 9779494) , Superduty cylinder heads (544127) and two four-barrel carburetors- originally being restored as a drag racer. This engine is a screamer. Still needs transmission repair or replacement, exhaust manifold, new gas tank and gas lines, new or repaired transmission, new front window regulators, brakes and new electrical wiring. Body restoration is good but not concourse level. No rust. Interior restored to the 1961 style book with maroon tuck and roll. No re-manufactured parts. All original. 1966 421 block will support a 'bolt-on' transmission newer than the 1961 which is in the car, manual 4 speed recommended, due to the power and rating of the engine. (421 was originally rated at 500 mph or more.) (The 1961 transmissions had issues freezing up from sediment in the filter.) Rag-top is new and works (manually of course). Engine converted to run on unleaded gasoline. Block was obtained 'off the line' from Pontiac at the time that Pontiac discontinued factory installation of the 421 and has never run in a car before- still being broken in. I've owned in since it was a bone stock, all original car. the entire drive train has been gone thru, upgraded, and/or rebuilt. the motor is a 283 60's vette, race ready, custom built monster...now 292 after machine work. completely taken down and rebuilt. has less than 6k miles on it. it's got a lumpy cam, forged pistons, and a killer 4-jet carb that roars when it's opened up to it's optional straight pipe lakes...when it pulls into any show, no person can't stop and look for what the sound is coming from. the motor alone is a $10k+ build, done old school, the way it was in 60's hot rod days with quality US made NOS and reclaimed or rebuilt GM parts....list is endless we can go over it in person. from the glass bowl fuel filter, the GM ram horns, ignition, the finned covers from the 60's, etc. the transmission was fully gone thru and rebuilt as well, 4 speed with overdrive, adapted to the original column shifter... the rear end is the original and fully rebuilt, with custom driveshaft and has been four-linked for a smooth drive at ANY ride height. the suspension is a full custom job, with front and rear manual adjustability. it's been bagged in a simple way, that fits the built of this car. one of the most unique features, is that this does not use your typical loud 12volt compressors, rather a near silent belt driven compressor, originally designed for air conditioning. heavy duty custom shocks/mounts front to back, quality bags, and custom perches...even a reinforced rear cross member after being notched & tunneled. it's a lowrider and drives all the way down if you want, has great clearances all the way up, and looks fantastics when slammed down on the side pipes. original glass all around, working AM radio, interior dome light, all gauges, speedo, exterior lighting (yes the indian head lights up) and even vacuum wipers...car is converted to 12volt. the clock is disconnected and set at 5 o'clock (needs to be gone thru...works but get's hung up) because of obvious reasons... the interior is a full kustom job...have a look, it turned out unreal. everything is pleated, in hard to find zodiak sparkle vinyl. original creme headliner goes perfect with the warm & classic feel. the creme seats are accented with red sparkle back and firewall pad...blood red crushed velvet carpet all piped with matching floor mats. trunk is fully upholstered to match too...false walls hide the air tank and optima battery. has a hidden kill switch and stash bin noone would find. the paint is near perfect. original colorway, but a respray. again it's a driver, but it's also well cared for. no cancer...no dents/dings/issues. the roof is metallic navy with a very unique translucent flake, with a ton of clear. it pops in the shade, not the sun. pretty kool. the chrome is all original and has a patina that works with the car...all pieces and stainless are intact...along with some additions and modification you can read about in the mod list above. it's a car very dear to me, unlike any of my projects before....but I think it's time to move onto a new project. I have a TON of time, money, and effort into this build. the quality and overall feel of this project, mixed with the rarity of a clean pontiac like this what makes the car so special. it's a mild custom, with old bomb queues, and kustom flare...the combo is something people really get a kick out of. it's classy and badass at the same time...this isn't a rattle can, thrown together, over the top car. it's reliable, meant to be used, driven, and shown, and can easily take you across country as the vehicle/transportation it is. the car is everything you want it to be.
