NOT your average example of a 1964 Grand Prix. Look high and low, most of these full size Pontiacs are either way overpriced trailer queens or in need of everything. This PHS documented Grand Prix has a 389 V8 engine (.020 over) with 2,700 miles since professionally rebuilt. Total miles 102,700. Ready for the open road, parades, cruising or car shows. You will probably have the only one like this when you show up. This is a driver not a show car, to be used and enjoyed. Don't wait for your perfect car, just get in and have fun. This Pontiac started life at the South Gate plant in California and I purchased it in 2006 from a dealer in Illinois. Over the years since, I slowly performed a rolling restoration, focusing on reliability and safety. Starting with the engine, it was removed and rebuilt. New Holley carburetor and filter element installed. Anything that needed replacing was done as I proceeded. Engine compartment cleaned and detailed with original factory warning stickers. New splash guards installed on front wheel wells. Roto Hydramatic Transmission was removed, resealed, checked, new filter and flex plate installed. Rear axle removed, soda blasted and painted. Then it was reinstalled with new seals and bearings. Next new brake hardware including, master cylinder, rebuilt brake booster, slave cylinders and flex lines. Eight of the rear body to frame mounts were replaced. Fuel tank was dropped and inspected and found to have no inside rust. Tank sender was cleaned and fully functional with gauge. Auxiliary fuel pump installed. New engine driven pump installed. Interior restored including new seat covers, cushions, and driver springs. ( from Ames) Plastic dash cover over stock installed. New carpet, dynamat , door panels and package tray, door seals, all chrome cranks replaced. Replaced interior and exterior exterior window seals. Replaced rear view mirror. Drivers side remote mirror functional. New master cylinder, rebuilt brake booster, battery, 190 amp. 12 si alternator, radiator, water pump, stainless divider plates, spal electric boost fan and fan controller. (thermostat and a/c triggered) New HEI ignition and wire installed. Sony CD player with aux input installed in glove box with front Kicker 4x6 speakers that are hidden behind front kick panels and 6x9 speakers in enclosures mounted below package tray, also hidden. Kenwood amp. Pontiac am/fm factory radio with functioning Reverb, was installed recently. Although it was not originally in this car, it was an option that simulated stereo sound between front and rear speakers in the center of the dash and in rear. New front seat belts with retractors. Rear lap belts installed using original front belts. Modifications and much research was put into making sure engine does not overheat. Correct water pump (tall impeller) stainless divider plates and pump clearanced for minimal cavitation. In Texas on a 100 degree day in traffic and with air blowing full, coolant temp. did not exceed 200 degrees. ClassicAutoAir air conditioning / heater retaining stock control panel (never been done before) makes this car usable all year around. Most of the cars either do not have A/C or it does not work. Orignal 8 lug wheels (rare and very cool) with new BF Goodrich tires, with spare. Replaced wheel cylinders and hardware. Exterior paint was repainted red from original cameo ivory before I purchased eight years ago in single stage. I recently cleaned and polished the paint and would call it a "six footer". There is some body rust and fender dents and bondo especially in lower sections of wheel arches. I had planned to media blast and repaint but chose to leave as is. See photos. Front and rear bumpers have excellent chrome. Rear tail light lenses replaced. (Very hard to find) and three segment sequential turn/brake module (added) makes this car stand out. Reverse lenses have some crazing and reverse light "buckets" have some pitting. Front headlight chrome bezels have some pitting. Part of the trunk (right rear) was rusted and reapaired with fiberglass cloth and painted black. Frame has some surface rust, but is solid with no rust holes, repair patches or cracks. Underbody paint was applied to preserve. 8 of the rubber body to frame mounts were replaced. New rear custom springs from Eaton Detroit Springs with 2 inch lift over stock gives the car a raked look. All new shocks. Rear end was removed, soda blasted, and painted with new bearings and seals. All new brake hardware including slave cylinders and flex lines. Gas tank removed and checked, no rust. All guages and lights function (clock, amp. meter, fuel level, speedometer, center vacuum, low oil pressure, parking brake, hi/lo beam). Extra gauges (volt, oil press, coolant temp.) installed in center ashtray that can be closed and hidden. Extra fuse block installed with dedicated power from battery to power air, aux. fuel pump, high energy ignition and CD player. Relays installed to power hi/low beams. Extra 12 gauge wire from 12si alternator installed to carry more current to battery installed. True dual exhaust replaced and sounds great without being loud. Trunk has new carpet and side panels. Original and complete bumper jack. I have receipts for most of the major repairs and replaced components. Just changed oil, filter and coolant and had drive shaft balanced. Smooth ride up to 90 mph recently. (Closed racing track of course)Two new sets of keys. Box of extra parts. PHS build sheet matches engine serial number and transmission serial number along with VIN. Car has Texas antique plate and clear title. Further information or photos available. More photos and videos: photobucket.com/user/GP-1964/media/MAH01156_zpsyjpeziek.mp4.html
