This is a 1950 Packard Super with the 327 straight 8 and 3 speed manual trans. Car has Original ONLY 43,431 miles. Interior is in great condition and car has been garage kept for last 20+ years. Previous owner did a cheap Rustoleum roll on black paint in order to get Antique tags. Metal is solid but it does have minor right front fender damage. Car does need TLC. Rebuilt carb and fuel pump but wont stay running. Seems like a fuel starvation problem. Exhaust manifold where the exhaust pipe connects needs new studs. Brake job was started but not finished so I have the rest of the SS brake lines. All hoses and wheel cylinders were redone already but not filled up with fluid yet. I need room for my other projects for this coming summer so this one has to go. Hopefully to a good home.

Taking a luxurious post-war Packard and adding a modern drivetrain, A/C, and a plush interior means that this is first-class transportation that will stand out just because it's unusual. At this price, you'd be crazy to pass on this heavy cruiser. The post-war Packards are excellent choices for a mild resto-mod like this. One, they're still full-sized cars, which means full-sized comfort. Two, they're insanely affordable. And three, they're pretty darned handsome in a 1940s aerodynamic sort of way. There's a much bigger pile of money than the price tag would indicate invested in this appealing red sedan. The bodywork is nicely done and we're guessing that this started out as a nice, straight car before any of the renovations began, because all four doors open and close with that solid feeling that modern cars just can't seem to duplicate. The glowing burgundy paint has a bit of metallic in it, just enough to make it really shine in the sun, but it doesn't look inappropriate in any way. It's got a few signs of use, because this car was built to drive, but having seen a lot of this car's siblings, we'll state unequivocally that this one is far nicer than most. Add in a lot of very nicely restored chrome, including the familiar Packard grille and the cool bumper-less front end treatment, and you get a car that looks like it should cost a lot more than it does. The exceptionally tasteful interior is pure Packard, from the seats to the woodgrained dashboard to the handsomely sculpted door panels. Everything is new, but the cloth upholstery respects the original design and looks very 1940s. The window garnish moldings and dashboard are woodgrained steel, not actual wood, and the work is so well done that it's hard to tell the difference. A modern tilt steering column has been fitted and there's a wooden steering wheel that seems to fit right in. The factory instrument panel remains, although the original big, round dials have been replaced by neatly installed gauges from Dolphin that look like they were custom made just for this application. A/C vents have been neatly installed in the dash and while the original radio is still in the center stack, a modern AM/FM/cassette head unit has been installed in a mini console just underneath. And as you'd expect, the trunk is massive, with a full set of carpets and a matching fifth wheel assembly. The original straight-8 is gone, replaced by a tried-and-true 350 cubic inch Chevrolet V8. The massive engine bay needed no modifications to handle the upgraded powerplant, and it's supported by a larger radiator, power steering and brakes, and a 4-barrel carburetor. It's not dressed for show, it's purely functional, but that means it's also reliable and easy to service. It's backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and exhales through a burbling dual exhaust system that's healthy but never obnoxious. The undercarriage is pretty original with clean floors and a heavy-duty frame and it sits right on a set of steel wheels with Packard hubcaps and 235/75/15 whitewall radials. Complete with restoration receipts, this is an unusual resto-mod that's a great alternative to the usual heavy cruisers. With the utmost respect for the original Packard feel, this car puts its upgrades in all the right places. This Custom Super 8 was designated a CCCA Classic by the Classic Car Club of America and was primarily designed by the renowned Howard "Dutch" Darrin. It has a strong 356 Cu Inch straight 8 making 168hp and is 7 inches longer than a Packard Standard 8. The paint is very presentable and has excellent chrome. The body has no dents and few scratches. There is cobwebbing in a couple of places as shown in the photographs. The interior is mostly original except for a renewed cloth upholstery and a renewed parcel shelf. The headliner is full of moth holes in front. The dash is original so it's tired but the gauges are bright and readable. It has a good working Overdrive but no Electromatic Clutch. The transmission shifts easily and appears to be in good condition. All of the lights and gages work, as well as the radio and heater. It has the original cloisonne crested hubcaps. My Classic Car mechanic says that this is one of the most "complete" cars he has run across. The car comes out of a long stored and dusty barn and the photos show it.Payment by cash or bank transfer and shipping easily arranged.

The car starts right up, runs strong with excellent oil pressure, and shifts and stops well. Here we have a great opportunity to get a tour and show ready Club Sedan- one of the most desirable bodies styles-at an affordable price. We have many more photographs of this car, please click on any image to be taken to our full-size image list! Packard was founded by brothers James Ward Packard , William Doud Packard and his partner George Lewis Weiss in the city of Warren, OH. James Ward believed that they could build a better horseless carriage that the Winton cars owned by Weiss (An important Winton stockholder) and James Ward, himself a mechanical engineer, had some ideas how to improve on the designs of current automobiles. By 1899, they were building vehicles. The company, which they called the Ohio Automobile Company, quickly introduced a number of innovations in its designs, including the modern steering wheel and years later the first production 12-cylinder engine. While Ford was producing cars that sold for $440, the Packards concentrated on more upscale cars that started at $2,600. Packard automobiles developed a following not only in the United States, but also abroad, with many heads of state owning them. In need of more capital, the Packard brothers would find it when Henry Joy, a member of one of Detroit's oldest and wealthiest families, bought a Packard. Impressed by its reliability, he visited the Packards and soon enlisted a group of investors that included his brother-in-law, Truman Newberry. In 1902, Ohio Automobile Company became Packard Motor Car Company, with James as president. Packard moved its automobile operation to Detroit soon after and Joy became general manager and later chairman of the board. The Packard'factory on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit was designed by Albert Kahn, and included the first use of reinforced concrete for industrial construction in Detroit. When opened in 1903, it was considered the most modern automobile manufacturing facility in the world and its skilled craftsmen practiced over eighty trades. The 3.5 million ft2 plant covered over 35 acres and straddled East Grand Boulevard. It was later subdivided by eighty-seven different companies. Kahn also designed The Pacakrd Proving Grounds at Utica, MI. Throughout the nineteen-tens and twenties, Packard built vehicles consistently were among the elite in luxury automobiles. The company was commonly referred to as being one of the "Three P's" of American motordom royalty, along with Pierce and Peerless. Packard's leadership of the luxury car field was supreme. Entering into the 1930s Packard attempted to beat the stock market crash and subsequent depression by manufacturing ever more opulent and expensive cars than it had prior to October 1929. Packard did not change cars as often as other manufacturers did at the time. Rather than introducing new models annually, Packard began using its own "Series" formula for differentiating its model change-overs in 1923. New model series did not debut on a strictly annual basis, with some series lasting nearly two years, and others lasting as short a time as seven months. In the long run, though, Packard did average approximately one new series per year. By 1930, Packard automobiles were considered part of the "Seventh Series". By 1942, Packard was in its "Twentieth Series". There never was a "Thirteenth Series". GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING! 1947 Packard Custom Super Clipper 7 Passenger Touring VIN - 2151-3507 Original 356 ci. Inline 8 cyl. Engine Original 3 Speed Manual Transmission w/ Overdrive Electromatic Clutch Packard Blue Car Original upholstery & Carpet Rear Jump Seats Front & Rear Radios Factory Fog Lights Factory Back Up Lamp Body By Henney This is one of the nicer 47 Packard Custom Super Clipper's you'll find, very original and mechanically sound. If your looking for a Packard for your collection, this may be where the search ends The car was originally sold in Buffalo New York to a banker from Ohio as these weren't as easily found when they were new and he had 5 children. There is a pretty interesting narrative of the first owner history written by his son some years ago that goes with the car. There are also maintenance records from the original owner. The car was sold to several other owners including a former President of Packards International, who owned it in the 80's and 90's. He called me last year and we talked about this car. I was told it was repainted and chrome restored while he owned it and was featured on pages 184-189 in the book "Packard the Pride", as well as on the cover of several magazines. I was also told it was judged at a national Packard event 1989 and scored 96 points where it took first place in class. As far as the Body, it was repainted with a lacquer paint, not the same as original but it was you could still get lacquer paint. The chrome is in excellent condition, the pot metal parts have a couple of very minor blemishes and the stainless trim is very good. The panel alignment is great, the doors will all close themselves as designed. The glass is all good with the exception of 2 vent windows showing some delaminating starting. There are a few chips from being driven and the very bottom of the drivers rear door has a couple of blisters, they've been there since he bought it in 2001. It has several rare factory options such as the fog lights, back up lamp, window rain guards and exhaust deflector. It has the beautiful Firestone reproduction tires, ruby center hubcaps and matching front plate to finish off the elegant appearance. Mechanically it has been serviced regularly and everything functions as designed except for the clock. The clutch was replaced Dec. 2012 with new seals in the transmission at the time. The master cylinder was replaced when it was discovered being the wrong one when the clutch was replaced. The speedometer wasn't working because of a bad cable so it was replaced and the head was rebuilt at the same time. The car showed 42K miles when it stopped working so it was rolled ahead to 47K when rebuilt by figuring his average use multiplied by the number of years it wasn't working so it should be real close. The valves were ground several years ago and new head gasket installed. The Electromatic clutch was serviced this year for a bad governor and adjusted. The temperature gauge was rebuilt this year also and the intake/exhaust gaskets were replaced including new studs in the block. The car drives excellent, the clutch will operate itself for shifting, the overdrive engages smoothly and drops out perfectly for passing and it idles so quiet you almost can't hear it running standing next to it. The exterior of the car is very nice, it has an older paint job that was laid over a perfectly straight body, it shines well and only has a few small spots that have started to check a little. The chrome and stainless trim show very well, there are some small pits on the handles and other cast parts as expected on a car that is driven. The panel alignment is as it should be and I couldn't see any indications of rust issues or any prior collision damage. The glass is beautiful, no scratches and only a few tiny pits in the windshield. There are several factory accessories, factory fog lights, reverse light, wind deflectors and the exhaust deflector that are very seldom seen on this model. In fact I was told this car is the only one known to have these fog lights and the widow shades. The tires are just a few years old and look almost new, the car is garaged of course. The wheel covers are near perfect. All exterior lights work perfectly as does the horn. The interior is very presentable, almost everything is original right down to the carpet. The cloth on the front seat back. There is some wear on the drivers armrest but it's minimal and the drivers side of the carpet has some discoloration from shoes over the years. The rear seats look almost new and the headliner is in very good condition. The faux wood shows well on the dash and doors. The steering wheel has a few small cracks developing but nothing serious, still very presentable. The horn, turn signals and both radios work well. All of the dash lights work, all of the gauges as do all the switches. The windows roll up and down as they should and vent windows work well. The only other item not functioning is the clock but it's still right twice a day. The car has NO rust issues, I've spent time under her and found nothing other than light surface patina. The car was sold new back east but definitely was well cared for because I know what cars that aren't look like since I'm originally from WI. I think I've covered everything, but it's possible I missed something. I tried to show everything in the pictures and have additional pictures so send me your email address if you want to see something in more detail. The car is close by my shop so I can get any other pics you need if I don't already have them. He also corrected me, CCCA gave it 98 points & a National first in 1989.

FACTORY 356 STRAIGHT 8 L HEAD PACKARD ENGINE - RUNS LIKE A TOP LUXURIOUS AND ROOMY LONG WHEEL BASE MODEL - RARE HENNEY MOTORCAR COMPANY BUILT CHASSIS BEAUTIFUL INTERIOR - WIDE WHITES - ALL FACTORY COMPONENTS INTACT - VERY VERY RARE! This 1947 Packard Custom Super Clipper 8 Series Touring Sedan features a long wheelbase. This post-WW II classic was a top-of-the-market luxury vehicle. Blessed with the looks and styling of an elite limousine, it is mostly original and will make an excellent addition to any collection. You will look and feel like a Big Shot/Movie Star in this high-quality beauty which is one of the most rare Packards in the market place... Packard redesigned its entire line around the Clipper, even extending it to its top-of-the-line seven-passenger sedan and limousine. These models were built on an extended 148-inch wheelbase chassis by the Henney Motor Company, of Freeport, Illinois, Packard's long-serving builder of ambulances and limousines. Henney's reputation for craftsmanship was legendary, and these cars, essentially the first modern "stretch" limousines, were built with the same care and quality as any coachbuilt automobile, continuing the pre-war tradition begun by Rollston, LeBaron, and others. They were beautifully finished with the finest materials, including beautiful broadcloth upholstery, Mosstred carpeting, and Art Moderne wood-grain and Bakelite trim. NOTE: Production of the seven-passenger models was extraordinarily low, and survivors are prized by collectors, not least because they are among the final Packards recognized as Full Classics by the Classic Car Club of America Rare! 1947 Packard Super Clipper 8 Series Touring Sedan Series 2126. 165 hp, 356 cu. in. L-head inline eight-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission with Econo-Drive overdrive, independent front suspension with semi-elliptic rear springs, and four-wheel hydraulic brakes. Wheelbase: 148 Arizona Titled - VIN 21513826 Drives Beautifully Factory 356 Straight 8 L Head Engine Beautiful Touring Sedan Interior Is Beautiful and and classically original! All Original Dash And Components - Very Nicely Preserved New Wide Whites On Original Packard Wheels And Hubcaps All Glass In Good Shape History of the 1947 Packard Clipper Packard turned from building top-tier luxury cars prior to WWII to Rolls-Royce Merlin aircraft engines during the war, but picked up in 1946 with the Clipper series they had introduced in 1941. The returning 1946 Packard Clippers were almost identical to the prewar cars, being semi-streamlined two- and four-door sedans with fade-away fenders. The grille remained tall and narrow, only now with fewer and thicker bars. The Clipper could be ordered with a 245-cid straight-six engine that produced 105 hp, a 125-hp straight-eight engine that displaced 282 cid, or a 356-cid, 165-hp L-head eight. The latter engine was reserved for the luxury Super and Custom Super lines. The base Clipper rode on a 120-inch wheelbase, while the Super and Custom Super Clippers rode a 127-inch wheelbase. The Custom Super also came as a seven-passenger sedan and as a limo, both of which rode on 148-inch long wheelbases, which was one of the longest in the domestic industry. Prices ran from $1,700 for a six-cylinder car to $2,900 for a Custom Super Clipper sedan. The LWB versions were more than $1,000 above that price, still. The Clipper is an interesting line to follow, with some of the 1946 and 1947 cars at the very top of Packard quality. Because of low production numbers once they are found they are worthwhile additions to any collector's garage and sky rocketing in value!!! More pictures are available by request. Serious buyers only. Thanks and have a blessed day.
