1992 ACHIEVA SC RAIV (QUAD4 that is) WITH RAM AIR, 2.3L, AUTOMATIC, CRUISE, TILT, LEATHER WRAPPED STEERING WHEEL AND GEAR SELECTOR, WORKING A/C WITH REAR PASSENGER VENTING FOR HEAT AND A/C! (a conduit going under the console to the back seating area/nice idea), DELUX INTERIOR LIGHT GROUP (everything is well lit at night), REMOTE CABLE TRUNK RELEASE, FUEL CAP PROTECTED BY REMOTE FUEL DOOR, RECLINING FRONT SEAT/LUMBAR SUPPORT,FOLD DOWN SPLIT REAR SEAT BACKS ALLOWING ACCESS TO THE TRUNK CARRYING LONG OBJECTS,FACTORY FOG LIGHTS, AN OVERHEAD CONSOLETTE (place for putting things where overhead lights are as well) REAR DEFOG, POWER ABS DISC BRAKES (standard on this model that work well), FRONT AND REAR SWAY BARS, TWO DOOR (sc) SPORT COUPE, with unheard of at the time OPTIONAL FACTORY 16 inch aluminum wheels (THEY ALSO MADE THEM THIS STYLE IN 15" AS WELL IF NOT STANDARD FOR THIS CAR) THAT STILL POP PRETTY WELL BECAUSE HE PAID OVER $400.00 TO HAVE THE CLEAR REFURBISHED. THIS IS ONE LOW PRODUCTION AND HIGHLY OPTIONED ACHIEVA, AND NOT GRANDMAS FOUR DOOR WITH THE SIX CYLINDER WHICH PRODUCED LESS HP THAN THE FOUR. THE OWNER DROVE IT IN THE SNOW AND SAID IT IS SURPISINGLY GOOD IN THE SNOW WITH THE SIPED SNOW/ALL SEASON HANKOOK 16" TIRES, AND FRONT WHEEL DRIVE WITH THE ABS BRAKING. I NOR HE DROVE THE CAR HARD BUT IT MOVES PRETTY GOOD FOR WHAT IT IS. HE DROVE IT IN THE CITY TO THE STORE ETC.PRIMARILY AND PARKED IT IN THE NORTH FOURTY, WITH SOME 100 MILE TRIPS. I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN IT ONCE OUTSIDE THE SHOP AREA TO SEE IF EVERYTHING WORKED. NON-SMOKER CAR STILL SMELLS RIGHT.TRIP METER DOES NOT WORK. THERE IS A SECTION OF THE TRUNK WEATHERSTRIPPING THAT HAS SEPARATED THAT I HAVE'NT YET REPLACED IT, BUT IS THE SAME TRUNK OPENING AS THE FOUR DOOR CARS.COMES WITH FACTORY OWNERS MANUAL AND A FACTORY (GM) SHOP MANUAL. ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA THEY MADE A SMALL NUMBER OF 1992 AND THE 1993 ONLY CARS THAT PRODUCED 180 HP WITH THE RAM AIR WHICH IS ONLY 10HP LESS THAN THE ACHIEVA SCX, WHICH IS A LOT FOR WHAT IT WAS A FOUR CYLINDER IN 1992. IT IS SIGNIFICANT IN GM LINEAGE FOR SEVERAL REASONS, ONE OF WHICH IT WAS GM'S FIRST FORAY INTO THE BIG 2.3 FOUR CYLINDER FOUR VALVE HEMI HEAD DESIGN THAT WAS THE IMPETUS AND FORMAL PREDECESSOR FOR THE VERY SUCCESSFUL AND VENERABLE SATURN SC2 DOHC H/O ENGINES. HOWEVER, IN MY OPINION AND THAT OF OTHER TECHNICIANS IN 1992 THESE CARS EQUIPPED WITH THIS ENGINE WERE NOT READY TO BE INTRODUCED AND HAD TOO MANY BUGS. SO EVEN THOUGH THESE CARS SO EQUIPPED FROM OLDSMOBILE WERE NOT CHEAP MANY OWNERS GOT RID OF THEIR CARS PREMATURELY, OR SOME KEPT THEM AND WORKED OUT THE BUGS ONE AT A TIME. SO IT WAS WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER, WHO LOVED THIS CAR AND BROUGHT THIS CAR TO ME ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS. BELOW IS A LIST OF REPAIRS THAT I HAVE PERFORMED. I WILL HAVE UPLOADED A VIDEO SHOWING THIS CAR STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL DUAL MUFFLER EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT IS STILL IN GOOD SHAPE AND DOES NOT EVEN HAVE ANY RUST ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR BECAUSE SOUTHERN OREGON DOES NOT USE SALT THEY USE NON CORROSIVE CINDERS. THIS VEHICLE CAN EASILY BE MODIFIED TO ENHANCE ITS PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS EVEN MORE WITH DIFFERENT EXHAUST AND PROM COMPONENTS BUT THE BEAUTY WITH THIS CAR IS THAT THE BUYER WOULD BE THE ONE TO MAKE THAT DECISION WITH THIS VEHICLE.IT HAS NEVER BEEN MODIFED MUCH LESS PERFORMANCE WISE. I NEVER HAD A REASON TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE MILES ON THIS VEHICLE UNTIL I TOOK POSSESSION OF IT. ALL THE RESEARCH I CAN DO AT MY DMV INDICATES THEY ARE REAL. I OWN A SERVICE FACILITY AND I AND OTHERS HAVE MAINTAINED THIS CAR FOR OVER A DECADE.I HAD NO INTENTION OF OWNING OR BUYING THIS CAR, IT WAS JUST ANOTHER JOB AND THE OWNER WAS A FANATIC THAT BOUGHT THIS CAR NOT RUNNING AND SPENT AN INSANE AMOUNT OF MONEY OVER THE PERIOD HE HAD IT ON MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS. IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN A COLLISION THAT WE CAN ASCERTAIN BUT HAS BEEN REPAINTED, THE HOOD WAS REPLACED BY US AND I BELIEVE A FENDER (reason unknown to us) AS FAR AS HERE AND THERE BECAUSE THE OWNER WAS OLD, WORE CORRECTIVE EYEWEAR AND DIDN'T HAVE THE BEST DEPTH PERCEPTION IN LOW SPEED PARKING/BACKING SITUATIONS. THEY DID A PRETTY GOOD JOB, AS THEY CHARGED HIM ENOUGH. NO $50,000 RESTORATION HERE, BUT GOOD WORK FOR STREET/ SHOW. HE MET A LADY FRIEND AND SHE TOOK THE ACHIEVAS PLACE FOR HIS ATTENTION AND HE OFFERED IT TO ME ON THE SPOT FOR A PRICE I COULD NOT REFUSE, BECAUSE HE WANTED A NEW EXPLORER. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS WORTH BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT THAT MANY OUT THERE IN THE MARKETPLACE OF THIS CONFIGURATION/CALIBER, BUT IT OFFERS A LOT OF TRANSPORTATION VALUE FOR THE MONEY, WITH ALL THE UGLY BOXY ECONOMY VEHICLES OFFERED TODAY. LOT OF CAR FOR THE MONEY! IN ANOTHER YEAR IT WILL BE ELIGABLE FOR HISTORICAL VEHICLE REGISTRATION MAKING IT HIGHLY PRACTICAL (registration) DESIREABLE/ COLLECTIBLE FOR THE CAR COLLECTOR FOR WHO MAY NOT BE DRIVING THE CAR EVERYDAY/ SHOW CROWD FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS ERA. I AM OFFERING IT FOR A FRACTIION OF WHAT HE HAD IN THE CAR PRIMARILY BECAUSE I JUST HAVE TOO MANY CARS TO HOUSE AND BELIEVE IT WILL SERVE SOMEONE WELL WITHOUT NEEDING A LOT OF MAINTENANCE MUCH LESS A RESTORATION! SHOWN AS IS, SOLD AS IS I HAVE REPRESENTED THE CAR THE BEST I AM ABLE WITH 35 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN WORKING ON MOST ALL MAKES AND THE HELP OF ONLINE SOURCES, CAN ONLY WARRANTY THE LABOR AND PARTS THAT I HAVE INSTALLED AND NO FORMAL WARRANTY CAN BE OFFERED OR IMPLIED. THE ELABORATE RAM AIR HAD A FACTORY BLOCK OFF PLATE IN THE FRONT JUST BEHIND THE DRIVERS HEADLIGHT EVEN THOUGH THERE IS AT LEAST ONE OTHER ENTRY POINT FOR AIR (still have block of plate, goes with the car), COLD AIR COMES IN UNDER THAT DRIVERS HEADLIGHT, GOES INTO A RESONATOR, COMES BACK AROUND TOWARDS THE THROTTLE BODY GOING THROUGH A FACTORY VORTEX VALVE ENTERING THE THROTTLE BODY INCREASING HORSEPOWER AS IN THE FASTER THE SPEED THE GREATER THE RAM AIR EFFECT DRAW. PRETTY HIGH TECH FOR GM IN 92 FOR A LITTLE MORE POWER, BUT OLDS DIVISION WANTED TO MAKE A STATEMENT WITH THIS PACKAGE/CAR AND THE DRAG RACING SPONSORSHIP THEY DID AT THIS TIME (see the pin pictured). THIS ENGINE HAS A TIMING CHAIN not a belt. MAY REPLACE THE MAF SOMETIMES HESITATES WHEN COLD. RUNS WELL, ALTHOUGH THE BLOCK OFF PLATE MAY HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDED WITH COLD WEATHER OPERATION (until engine compartment is warmed) BECAUSE WHEN IT IS WARM IT DOES NOT HESITATE EVER. WHAT I HAVE REPLACED REPAIRED at my facility: HEAD GASKET , N.O.S A/C CONDENSOR, (TXP VALVE, 7 BILLABLE HOURS), REMOVE COMPRESSOR REPAIR CLUTCH CONNECTOR, DRYER, EVAC, 2 LBs R-12 $1200.00 IN AN EFFORT FOR IT TO BE COLDER and the condensor to look better, 1-4 COIL PACK, REAR SHOCKS, FUEL FILTERS, AIR FILTER, SPARK PLUGS, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL HOSE, SERPENTINE BELT, POWER STEERING BELT, ALTERNATOR, NEW BATTERY, FACTORY molded RADIATOR HOSES $300.00 JUST FOR THE N.O.S. HOSES, VARIOUS SENSORS, AND WIRING HARNESSES TO THE SENSORS, 4 RUBBER BRAKE HOSES, FRONT BRAKE LININGS HAVE BEEN CHANGED ONCE, AND THEY DID NOT NEED REPLACING WHEN THEY WERE REPLACED (regardless of what was said in the video I don't recall the rotors on this car (we change a lot of rotors) needing to be replaced, but I would have to look at them closely to know/bottom line is the brakes are fine).WHILE THIS CAR WAS NOT A BIG LEAKER OVERALL THE FRONT MAIN SEAL LEAKED OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR (defective seal) ONTO THE RUBBER MOTOR MOUNT AND THE CV SHAFT BOOT THUS WERE BOTH REPLACED AS ASSEMBLIES,ORIGINAL DRY STRUTS IN THE FRONT AND THE REAR SHOCKS WERE REPLACED BECAUSE LES SCHWAB TOLD HIM THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (not), VARIOUS BULBS, N.O.S HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES, he broke the housings trying to replace the bulbs himself and they were starting to yellow.), N.O.S PASS SIDE POWER DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY $350.00 charge, paid me $50.00 an hour to detail the engine compartment (AS IF I HAD NOTHING ELSE TO DO) on several occasions, N.O.S. MULTI-FUNCTION TURN SIGNAL SWITCH because he tried to clean the switch with a harsh cleanser and it took the writing off of it. CD player had to be removed laser had to be cleaned have not tried it do not own a cd. N.O.S CONSOLE CUP HOLDER REPLACED , TURN SIGNAL FLASHER, $65.00 IN THE CRANKCASE FHS SPECIALTY PROPANE BASED OIL (just because it existed), NUMEROUS ENGINE HOSES i.e. SEPARATOR AND OTHER EMISSION AND VACUUM HOSES AS NEEDED. IF ANYTHING NEEDED TO BE DONE HE HAD IT DONE DESPITE THE COSTS JUST GET IT DONE! the car is in great shape for the age. runs and rides very strong. no engine or drive-train problems at all. only issue is the driver side window needs a new window motor. pretty great all around car perfect for first car or a daily driver. decent gas mileage. price is negotiable and trades are possible.
