This included success in both the marketing department and making the performance package more powerful than it had been the year before. One reason there was a jump in popularity was the increase in marketing to begin and that marketing was far more youthful to market the cars to younger drivers. Another, and perhaps bigger factor was that the package was faster for the year. The new 400 CID V8 was reserved solely for use in the Oldsmobile 442 package. The engine produced 345 horsepower, beating the previous 442 package s horsepower by 35. The engine also produced an impressive (for the time) 440 lbs./ft. of torque, which was 85 more than the year before. The engine was now part of the trio of features that provided the 442 its name: the 400 CID engine, 4-barrel carb and dual exhaust. Despite the performance improvements, the 442 package kept the reputation it had developed the previous year as being relatively mild-mannered and one of the best handling mid-sized cars in all of General Motors. Most of this was achieved through a carefully tuned suspension that included front and rear anti-roll bars that was much stiffer than the standard suspensions available for the models. The 442 was available with an automatic for the first time, offering the two-speed Jetaway automatic. This particular Olds 442 is in very nice shape an is, for the most part, a well preserved, straight original car that has had some light cosmetic restoration along the way to keep it looking as nice as possible. The engine, transmission and the rest of the running gear is in excellent shape, running and driving perfectly in line with one might expect with a well preserved classic Muscle Car. The power steering and brakes make the car easy to maneuver. The body is remarkably straight with no modification visible with close inspection and no signs of rust issues in the past or present. The interior is clean as is the engine compartment and trunk area. The under side is also very clean as it has enjoyed life in dry storage through out the years. No disappointments here. I spent money fixing the air-conditioning, replacing the T-Top rubber gaskets (which still are not 100%) battery, brakes, rebuilt carburetor, repaired leaky intake manifold gasket, air shocks, after-market tailpipes that sound wonderful. Video available upon request. The vehicle has the 442 package and a 3.73 rear end. This car runs wonderfully, and is a pleasure to drive. There are only a few dings/paint anomalies which I have attempted to depict in the photos.

Car is #1564 of 3501 built on 1/20/1984 as documented by the Hurst/Olds Club of America. It only has 40k on it. This car is used for show use only and was featured twice on spike TVs MuscleCar show. This car doesn't even see rain. I have all original documentation including 2 DVDs of the shows it was featured on. This is 1 of only 21 with a factory moonroof. AC blows cold and it has power windows/locks/moonroof. I included multiple pics to show with and without the custom highbeam bulbs (comes with both). Car comes with a show winning stereo system that includes all rare Oldschool stereo equipment. All stereo components were collected new in box and installed over the last year. The stereo system took me 4 years to find all the pieces new! This is by far the best Hurst/Olds I've seen that's still original (less the stereo). Drivetrain: Powered by a healthy numbers matching 400ci, 350 hp powerplant that is fed by the factory Rochester 4 barrel carb, it has plenty of pep. The power is put down by a TH400 transmission, this is one of the stouter ones produced and used in Larger vehicles, they even used this transmission in the Military Humvee! This 4-4-2 has power steering and power brakes. We went through this whole car, all new filters, belts, hoses, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and fuel pump. Anything that was excessively worn was replaced. Tires are new all around. (BF goodrich) We adjusted the idle and jets so it would run nice and smooth. It does not overheat even in the Florida heat. The motor is cold natured and needs to be warmed up for around 45 seconds prior to engaging in enjoyable activities.
