The idea for a beautiful wood body on a luxury sized Chrysler chassis came from David Wallace. Mr. Wallace was the President of Chrysler in the 1940’s and was looking for a very upscale, luxury car that would increase showroom traffic. The result is the spectacular Town & country. The Town & Country is based on Chrysler New Yorker underpinnings. The wood body is highlighted by distinctive mahogany side panels framed in structural ash. During a three year production run, only 8348 such cars were produced. Production was labor intensive and utilized the finest materials. This resulted in an elegant, expensive, motor vehicle that became a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Our Town & Country is powered by the original 324 cubic inch, inline eight cylinder “Spitfire” engine. Power is transmitted through Chrysler’s patented” Fluid Drive” transmission.
