Relisting my cooper for the last time. Buy it now is set for what I need to finish my next project, selling for less what I put into it so if you want to know my reserve its pretty much the same. Use the number below if you have any questions! Up for sale is my 1974 1275GT Leyland Mini Cooper Clubman, right hand drive that has undergone a very recent restomod. Engine: The car pulls beautifully up to highway speed with its mkIII 1275cc A+ engine mated to the newer style (rod shift) 4 speed manual transmission. The motor had the head gasket replaced about 10k miles ago with the addition of an LCB maniflow header. Previously, the header was mated to a maniflow exhaust but is currently connected to the straight pipe you see in the photos. Recently the valves have been set and the single HSU 1-1/2 carburettor has been fully rebuilt. Needle and jet have been matched to the car and the old waxstat type linkage has been replaced with a newer style, the one currently on the carb isnt in the best shape so I ordered a new one form the UK. Fuel lines and fuel tank were pulled to be cleaned, original hard line was in bad shape so I replaced that as well as the connecting rubber lines. Fuel filter is new and the fuel tank has been cleaned and sealed inside and I repainted the outside as well. The car stays cool sitting in 90deg MS weather or moving at 70mph on the freeway in help with the added 10inch oil cooler and secondary aux radiator. Both oil cooler and radiator are situated as front mount units. The oil cooler is a quality earls unit with a mocal thermostat so the oil temps run where they are supposed too. The front mount radiator is fashioned from a quality heater core and is controlled through the cab by the heater control. The heater still functions and the lines can be shut off and on via the engine bay. Transmission shifts smooth with no grinding, clutch was replaced at time of head gasket. Had gone through a recent fluid change. I up and down shift through the ranges and it never pops out of gear. All areas with surface rust were treated properly, brought down to metal, sanded for adhesion, metal prep, seal, then primer and paint. There were some really bad spots on the door bottoms that needed cutting out and welding. All the old seam sealer on the roof was taken out and new 3m sealer applied. All items that needed replaced were done so with upgraded units. All safety items were taken care of. All wiring was gone through, many of the wiring to the alternator/starter/etc were found to be brittle and replaced. Gauges were sent out and cleaned and re-calibrated. Red top optima is 1 year old. I built this vehicle intending to track it but so far have only taken it to work a few times (yes its road legal with the right hand drive). I recently picked up another project and decided I cant keep both and need to sell this to fund my new toy. If you have any questions feel free to call at 619 200 zero six three seven. This was the last year for carbureted Minis, and other factory features on this Limited Edition Mayfair model include head restraints, locking fuel cap, tinted glass (a light green-blue), opening rear side windows, and an AM/FM cassette radio (still fully functioning). What sets this particular classic Mini apart is that it’s almost entirely stock. I was told it had always been garaged and it meets those expectations. The car has zero rust, the original paint is exceptional, and the engine bay is clean. There is a minute paint chip on the edge of the hood (see photos). All sound dampening foams are in good shape under the hood and the trunk, the steel spare wheel w/ tire is in place (appears original), and the original tools, jack, and owner’s books are included as well. The original gray velour interior is firm and in excellent condition. The headliner is properly in place and the only blemish is very minor discoloration to the carpet underneath the floor mats. New floor mats are spotless, and the original set is included (they’re worn, but nevertheless a very good indicator for how well this car has been preserved). I bought this Mini from its second owner in Italy. He selected such classy upgrades as a chrome grill, a Nardi Rosewood steering wheel, and complementary rosewood trim around the dashboard and panels. All original parts are included in the sale so the car can be returned to its original form in a matter of hours. The “Royal Air Force” decal on the roof is easily removed, and can just as easily be replaced w/ a checkered flag, Union Jack, or whatever inspires you. Also included are the second owner’s service records, which show the head was rebuilt about 4,000 miles ago. New timing parts and gaskets were installed at that time to ensure many more years of smooth operation. The engine starts and runs flawlessly, it has a sporty sound, and it gets 42 mpg. The 1991 build date qualifies this Mini for classic car status in most locales, meaning it can be registered and insured for very little. Overall this Mini needs nothing and is ready to be driven daily. If you’ve read this far, you’re probably aware that this incredibly quick and nimble car dominated rally racing in its day. As the vintage decal on its window reads, “ruling the bends and bending the rules” is the expected standard for classic Minis, and its cornering and braking abilities will shame modern sports cars on twisty roads. Not only is it a blast to drive, but it's deceptively roomy as well- I’m 6’4” and fit comfortably behind the wheel. I’m a straight shooter and you will not be disappointed buying from me. Fantastic fun!! 1973 Innocenti Mini 1300cc With everything from major rallying and saloon car racing success to being the outright star of films such as The Italian Job, the Mini is a true icon of the 20th Century, not just as transportation, but as pop-art and contemporary design. But fifty years ago, to many, its designer Sir Alec Issigonis included, the notion that the Mini might have a future as anything other than basic transport was ridiculous and the idea of a high-performance version was laughable. One man though, saw it quite differently. Racing car manufacturer John Cooper already knew quite a bit about tuning BMC's A-Series engine - he was running the company's Formula Junior effort at the time - and a test drive in a prototype Mini convinced him of the car's competition potential. The result, launched in September 1961, was the Mini Cooper, a car that offered a size/price/performance package that was nothing short of miraculous. Italian manufacturer Innocenti, under ownership of British Leyland, manufactured the classic Mini under license from the mid 1960s to 1975. Arguably a more stylish version of the British car, it was exquisitely built and sported 1300cc power, making for a quick truly European sports coupe. The example on offer here, was imported from Southern Italy a year or so ago and shows only 70,000 km (less than 44,000 miles) from new. Starting with a clean, rust-free shell, the car was fully restored. Repainted in stylish black with an old English white roof, the car shows really well with the Minilite-style wheels. Glass is all excellent, and chrome trim and brightwork shows well. The interior is sporty and as stylish as the exterior. White seats and panels contrast well with black dash and bright red carpet. And brand new dark red seatbelts set the whole thing off beautifully. Mechanically, the car is excellent throughout. The car starts easily and idles well, fresh from a full service to ready it for sale. It has fantastic and responsive power, running through an excellent 4-speed manual ‘box with excellent clutch action. It accelerates well by modern eco-box standards and will happily cruise at freeway speeds. Brakes are excellent, pulling the car up in a perfect straight line; steering is taut and has the great feel of a good classic Mini, while the suspension is excellent, all representative of the massive success of these little power-houses in rallying and racing. The car is simply a blast to drive! It feels bright and eager to run, and I would genuinely drive it anywhere without consideration and have great fun doing it! This is a great opportunity to buy a turn-key icon of British/Italian motoring and enduring symbol of "la dolce vita", which seats four comfortably and garners attention, waves and cheers wherever it goes. With three victories at Monte Carlo (back to back in 1964 and 1965), these pint size racers were formidable competitors. Their lightweight and decent power combined with great reliability made them a popular choice among drivers. Finding original Cooper Works cars is nearly impossible and even original Cooper S examples are becoming scarcer. To not only have an original Cooper S with loads of rare early Works components, but also history at the Monte Carlo Historique is a ticket to all kinds of exciting world wide exclusive vintage auto events. Although we do not know the specifics of this Mini’s early life, we have a suspicion that it might have been involved in rally racing back in the 60’s. There are too many unique components that were usually reserved for Works or competition cars. Furthermore, many of the early Cooper S features like original upholstery/carpet, 120mph speedo, chrome trim, wheels (off car), badging, etc. are mostly unrestored. It has not been driven in any other events since then and has mostly been a showpiece. It was imported to the U.S. in 2009 when the current owners purchased it. The owners are avid vintage vehicle collectors specializing in historical racecars. The have been participating for decades at the Monterey Historics as well as other exclusive vintage race events around the country. Besides using this Mini around the pits, their ultimate goal was to take the car back to Europe and continue racing in events there. Since this Mini had all the right papers and history, they thought it would be perfect. Their first goal was to make sure everything mechanically was in tiptop shape. So, they hired one of the best – Huffaker Engineering, Inc. of Sonoma, CA. Joe Huffaker was a 6+ time SCCA National Champion in a vintage Mini Cooper and is known for building not only the fastest vintage racers, but also some of the most reliable. He is not inexpensive, but he is one of the best. In total, over $15,000 was invested less than 100 miles ago rebuilding the drivetrain and other repairs. The paint and body are in very good condition with minor signs of use. The trim and Plexiglas appear to be original or excellent older parts. The real Minilites wear Yokohama A008 tires with near full tread. The interior is in equally nice condition with what appears to be mostly original upholstery, carpet, and headliner. All the gauges function properly and light up at night (including the Haldas and stopwatches). Even the interior dome light works. This is a functional vintage rally Mini Cooper that is turnkey and ready for any vintage event. Of course, the best part is the way it drives. It feels extremely light and nimble. The combination of increased power and custom gearbox provides excellent power with nice low-end torque. The steering is extremely precise and shifting is very smooth and easy. The pedal position is perfect for easy heal/toe work. The brakes are not only responsive, but have excellent pedal feel. In total, this set up inspires driving confidence. Rarely do we see this high level prepared vintage FAI competition rally cars available in North America. This Mini comes with the original wheels with vintage rally tires, original factory front grill cover (for cold weather driving), original trunk board, vintage racing/importation documentation, and recent drivetrain rebuild receipts. Since my ownership began in 2008, the car has been partially restored with around $10,000 spent on mechanical and cosmetic repairs and upgrades. (It's ok, I realize I'm underwater.) As a Mini enthusiast and purist, my goal with the car has been to maintain its original appearance and condition as much as possible and to keep it in reliable condition throughout the years. The car is in strong, drivable condition. The original 1275 engine with original SPI fuel injection runs very well. Rover introduced the fuel injection systems for Mini in 1992, and they are reliable, easy-to-maintain, and strong running. The engine provides smooth acceleration throughout the power band, and the car cruises smoothly at 70 mph on the interstate. The handling on the curvy roads is probably the best part. The brakes are modern and good: plenty sufficient braking for the car’s size. The car will attract admirers! The overall condition of the car will make you proud to be its owner. The car is not a show quality fully-restored classic Mini, but the car is in solid “driver” condition. The car is turn-key and ready to go. This car would be ideal for someone looking for a fun classic Mini as a “weekend driver”. The car is ready to participate in local British car club events, Mini club rallies, and the like. The car would also provide a great basis for a Mini enthusiast to personalize to his or her own taste. Features of the car: 78,953 mi. Right hand drive. Original 1275 engine with fuel injection and 4-speed manual transmission. Upgraded sport exhaust (by previous owner). Like-new 12-in. Minilife wheels. Removable sunroof. Notable work since 2008: New OEM carpet from Newton Commercial (the source of original interior replacement pieces) in 2012. New front seatbelts in 2013. New engine seals and gaskets in 2012. New brushed aluminum dashboard in 2011. Fresh paint job and new bumpers in 2011. Replaced rear undercarriage and rocker panel bodywork in 2011 to like-new or better-than-new condition; no rust.
