1955 MG TF 1500 on which a restoration had been started many, many years ago. The car was sandblasted and then disassembled. At this point, the restoration stalled and the parts were put in a barn. I acquired it last summer and installed the engine, transmission, radiator, firewall, floorboards and seats. I serviced the engine and it promptly started up. It ran smoothly, idled nicely with 30 psi oil pressure and revved freely. Although the hydraulic brake system was entirely inoperable, I was able to drive the chassis and ran it through all four gears. Oil pressure at medium RPM was 55 psi. It drove fine, but the tires are hard (and perhaps out of round) and the transmission has the typical severe growl in first gear. The frame and all chassis components are rock solid with no rot whatsoever in the frame. The chassis picture was taken late last summer. A few weeks ago, I decided to assemble the rest of the car and put it up for sale. The car has been loosely assembled primarily to show what is there and to facilitate shipping. The fenders are in good, rust free condition except for the left front which has had some body work done on it, not because of rust, but probably due to a fender-bender. The fenders were undercoated years ago so the bottom sides are well preserved. As the car was sandblasted and never painted or primed, there is some surface rust as seen in the photos. Doors are in excellent condition including the wood. Hoods, side panels, front and rear splash aprons and running boards are also in great condition with surface rust as shown in the photos. The rockers and wood behind them are completely gone. Rear fender wells are very solid and all of the captive nuts for retaining the fenders seem to be functional. Again, there is much surface rust, but no apparent rust through. The wood in the rear tub appears solid, but the main bottom timbers are gone. To repair the tub, new rocker panels and repair panels for the lower cowl and lower quarter panels will be needed. Most of the wood in the cowl will also need replacement. Fuel tank seems solid with no signs of rot or rust through at the bottom. The radiator shell and grille are in fair shape. They may look good in the photos, but there are numerous dents which will have to be repaired. The chrome center hood strip is in excellent shape. The windshield glass is cracked , but the frame is in good shape (needs polishing) and the stanchions are in very good condition. Seats are complete with slides and tonneau bars. Upholstery is shot! Wheels are 48 spoke and look to be in good condition. They too were sandblasted and never repainted, so some surface rust is evident, but it is not serious. Tail lights and bumper faces are there but need to be replaced due to poor chrome. Complete dash is in the car and all instruments look serviceable. Windshield motor and linkage are there, but the bakelite knobs are missing. Correct TF top bows are included (I forget to photograph them). Missing parts include, but may not be limited to: bumper over riders, license plate light, TF 1500 badges, door latches, side curtains and mounting hardware, longitudinal steel for the side curtain box, cover for the side curtain box, chrome hardware for retaining the windshield, H bracket to support the dash, running board strips, chrome trim on hood sides. This is a numbers matching car serial number HDP46/7771 with a clear title. It has the original 1500cc XPEG engine #1637 with which it left Abingdon, England in 1955. Car can be viewed in Burlington, Wisconsin. I can assist in shipping arrangements, but for shipping purposes, it should not be considered a running car (some transporters are very particular about that). I can probably deliver it in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and eastern New England for a reasonable fee. Call me at 847-830-7193 or write to [email protected] for further details. I also have several TDs and almost every spare part for the TD. Contact me if you need something.

A good friend asked me to help him sell his MG-B LE roadster. He just retired and decided to "thin the herd" rather then pay for off-site winter storage. This is his fifth MG. He is very meticulous and a great mechanic. He used his expertise, experience and ambition to put this car into fabulous condition. He has a folder containing receipts that totals more then the asking price! His purchase and time are not even included! In the two years he owned it, he went through it from top to bottom, side to side, inside and out. He rebuilt both the engine and transmission. The entire braking system is new. All wheel bearings and seals were replaced. All rubber goods are new. The alternator was replaced. A new Flamethrower distributor and coil were installed. A new SU manual choke carburetor was purchased. The fuel system was replaced. He converted the rear shocks to tube type. Both the bonnet and boot prop rods were eliminated with gas struts. He sourced a brand new wheel and tire for the spare. Now it matches the jack=unused! He installed a retro-appearing modern AM/FM stereo, new carpet and a new convertible top. The tonneau cover is also new. Can you imagine the amount of time and skill involved in all these upgrades?! He did have time to drive it. He managed to put on 2000 miles. He enjoyed showing the car. It is completely and thoroughly sorted. All features function properly. No repairs are required. Just put gas in the tank and enjoy! As you likely know, 1980 was the end of MG. They produced the LE model in 79 and 80, only building 6668 units. They are all black. They have special wheels and steering wheel, luggage rack, front air dam and silver stripes. A few minor modifications, such as the crab and radio, were made. But essentially this car is very original in appearance. The body is completely rust-free. It spent most of its life in Florida. You will notice all welds, pans and jacking points are in perfect condition. It has been repainted and is in good driver quality finish. The interior is splendid. There are no flaws. Same goes for the boot. Very, very nice. Due to all the repairs and improvements, the performance is splendid. Everything has been tended too. No worries here. Time, skill, passion and familiarity made this car into what it is today. The next owner is certainly going to reap the benefits of the investments and efforts he made.

Intro: For your consideration is this nice condition and nice driving 1989 MG TD convertible replica made by Classic Motor Carriages out of Florida (they purchased FiberFab). This vehicle has just been professionally detailed and cleaned up. This is a get in and drive very presentable vehicle that is ready to be enjoyed. This MG replica is closer to the true thing with having a proper front engine inline four cylinder, rear wheel drive, and a full frame; not a flat four like the VW examples. The suspension, steering, engine, transmission, differential, and etcetera are from the Chevrolet Chevette but with a special frame. While the Chevette is the brunt of many jokes now a days, its engine, trans, and drivetrain is very solid and reliable. Almost 3 million Chevettes were produced so maintenance parts are attainable and can be acquired at local auto parts stores. Also, parts that are unique to the replica can still be sourced from multiple sources (ex: http://mgmagic.homestead.com/). A manual from Classic Motor Carriages with part numbers and assembly information is included as well as a Chevette manual for the drivetrain.Owner’s of these cars state many of the benefits are it costs about ¼ what a true MG TD does, handles better, brakes better, easier to work on, much more reliable, and won’t rust! Also, these Classic Motor Carriages examples are often regarded as the best of the MG TD replicas. The casual automotive enthusiast would not notice that this is a replica car and a MG enthusiast will have to look for the details. This car is fun to just cruise in and gets more smiles and waves than any other sports or exotic car I have owned. Lots of “bang for the buck” in this one. Please view the video, images, and description below to get a clear idea about this MG TD’s condition. Video: A 6 minute long high definition video is provided to better show the condition of this MG TD. The video footage was taken within the last two weeks. To view the video please click play or copy and paste the link. http://youtu.be/aMwmmvp_KP4 There are a few different sections to the clip: 1.) Exterior walk around shows the very nice condition of the body and interior 2.) Start up showing it start easily on the first try (was mildly warm) 3.) Driving clip front view showing the front end. Drives straight and smooth. Engine sounds healthy! The microphone is mounted near the rear and the rattle I believe is coming from the wire wheel hubcap on the spare tire. 4.) Interior driving clip showing the gauges. Great oil pressure. Here is an advertisement from the factory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-9OzeV6EJg Images: 70+ high resolution images of this MG TD are hosted via PhotoBucket. The photos were taken on 10/10/2014. All of the pictures can be seen by either clicking the slide show below, clicking any of the sample images below, or copying and pasting the web address: http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/OldSkoolFool83/library/1989%20MG%20TD%20Replica Images include exterior condition, close ups, interior, engine bay, underbody, and etc. Please look through all of the images. To view an even higher resolution version of an image on Photo Bucket, click “Download” under “Media Options” on the right hand side of the screen. Exterior: The body on this car is made of fiberglass. No rust or dings! The “paint” is actually a gel coat like a boat which is nice as it will not peel or age like paint does. The white is very presentable. It is not concourse glossy but has a shine to it and looks nice. There are no odd textures, over spray, etc. that would commonly be found on traditional finishes. All the panels on this MG are very nice and do not have significant damage and do not show evidence of repair. There are some minor nicks here and there from age and use. The fitment of the panels is nice and it does not look cheap. The chrome is very presentable, recently detailed, and shows typical aging such as minor pitting. A tonneau cover is present and in nice condition. This is probably what most people use for weather protection as it just snaps on very easily and can be stored in the back. The convertible top and frame is present and in overall nice condition but has some tearing at the corners which could be repaired. Extra material is included for repair. The windows are present as well and in nice condition. A top cover, “boot”, is also present. It is nice to have all these extra. The underbody is very nice. The frame still has its black paint and is extremely solid and straight. Absolutely no evidence of damage or repair. It looks like this vehicle was stored in doors most of its life and of course not driven in Wisconsin winters. Overall this is a very complete body that is extremely presentable! Interior: The interior on this MG replica overall is presentable. There is not much too it. Dash is nice as are the gauges. The seat upholstery is good and lacks excessive wear or rips. The carpet is fine and shows normal use. Door panels are good. The steering wheel is kind of generic but is fine. Seat belts are present for driver and passenger. Mechanical: Mechanically this vehicle is overall well sorted and drivers very sweetly. As stated, parts are still available for the Chevette underpinnings and the Classic Motor Carriages bits. The engine starts up easily, usually on the second or third attempt. Let it warm up for a few minutes. It runs smooth and without issue. It idles on its own and sounds healthy. It goes through the RPM range just fine. No smoking, significant drips, burning, etc. The exhaust is good. Some tinkering will be needed for some of the gauges as a new speedometer cable is probably needed, water temp not currently working, and ammeter not currently working. The speedometer states like 8,000 miles. Since it is inoperable I cannot confirm the mileage. The tachometer, fuel level, and oil pressure gauges work. There is good oil pressure. The transmission works appropriately including reverse. It is a three speed Chevy unit that is automatic. A manual transmission could be converted in. The steering is fine. It looks like the left rear spring or shock might be worn as it is lower in that corner so either the shock or spring might need replacement. I believe the rear spring is a Chevette part. The car can still be driven just fine, does not make any odd clunks, etc. Front shocks are new. Tires have a good amount of tread, are older, but multiple seasons should be left in them, and match all around. The brakes are fine and do not seem to need attention. That about sums it up. Overall a very nice running and driving machine that does not need much. Conclusion: As stated, a MG TD replica with a proper inline front 4 cyl, solid rear axle, and full frame is the way to go. In the MG TD replica world, this is about the closest it gets to the real thing. This is a very fun machine and one that gets waves, smiles, and positive comments each time it is out. It is ready to be enjoyed as it is. This vehicle has a clean title in my name. As stated, this is a get in and drive vehicle. Drive it home! Serious buyers, please contact me with questions.
