You’ll Search Long and Hard to Find a Car Like This at Any Price... Let Alone at HALF of Its Restoration Investment. Today we are offering one lucky person the opportunity to own a coveted 1965 MGB roadster that has been restored over the course of 25+ years to virtually concourse condition. The car has had quite a life. We’ll endeavor to help you understand its whole history: This is a 2-owner vehicle and both owners were long-time friends of one another. The first owner bought the car new in England back in 1965 and drove it there for a year or two while in college. Then he had it shipped to the U.S. Savvy MGB aficionados will see telltale remnants of its beginnings in Europe like the color of the original taillights which differ from their American export counterparts. The original owner didn’t put all that many miles on the car but it did deteriorate rather significantly due to the fact that it was kept and used at an east coast beach house. The salt air, sand and rough roads really took their toll on the car and the owner did little to prolong its life. Eventually it got so bad that the owner stopped driving it and relegated it to long term (sometimes outdoor) storage. The second (and current) owner knew the car and its story well and eventually talked his buddy into selling it to him back in the early 90’s. By then it was a fixer-upper and so he bought it for a song. The next 25+ years involved a true labor of love and investment of over $45,000 documented dollars of expense; not to mention all of the personal time he put in and the cost of storage, taxes, etc. The owner, John, (no doubt you’ll eventually meet him if you have serious interest) committed to doing a ground-up restoration that included complete dis-assembly and either restoration or replacement of every single part of both the body and engine. He remained true to his main objectives throughout the project which included the greatest possible level of authenticity and originality that he could achieve while winding up with a car that could be driven and enjoyed rather than simply being stored and shown off. To that end, he repaired and restored every original part he could save, searched the planet for new-old-stock replacement parts whenever possible, and only used reproduction parts when totally unavoidable – and even then he only chose the best. He also used only professional restorers, mechanics, and machinists to do his work. You’ll find no signs of backyard mechanic’s work here. The end result is a car that both aesthetically and mechanically is just a few scant points away from original factory perfection. Of course, since the restoration took so long, you should expect to find little signs where, despite always being garage-kept, some slight effects of aging are findable here and there, but no doubt you’ll agree… that’s just what happens to vintage English cars no matter what you do. Spots we noticed include a scuff on the driver side dash that doesn’t seem to accept polishing, some light superficial rust on the unpainted metal edges of the window guides that occurs from condensation forming on the glass and then later dripping down, and some micro-pitting and other deterioration on a few spots of the exterior chrome. The radiator, which is original, looks discolored and has some verdigris patina on it. It works great but the cooling system pros warned against repainting it because it can reduce the effectiveness of the fins. Thus, it stands out as looking unrestored. If it bothers you, you can buy a new reproduction, but of course that too will discolor as you drive the car. With regard to originality, expect everything to be as it originally was built with the exception of the transmission which was replaced with an overdrive type, and of course there is an added overdrive unit on the firewall and switch on the dash which could have come with the car but didn’t. If you want to have the original transmission back you are welcome to have it and it works fine so far as we know, but it sure is nice to have the overdrive. The radio works but has no antenna so it doesn’t tune any channels. The owner being deaf, he didn’t make this a high priority and in fact mounted the outside mirror in the original antenna hole. Some gasketing is not as it was originally but now works better as these cars were very prone to leaking as this one still does here and there under certain weather conditions (read on). It’s much easier to tell you what’s wrong with the car since most of it is so perfect so here’s the short list of know shortcomings that haven’t been mentioned yet. The paint job looks beautiful to us but we are not paint finish experts. Apparently (based on the comments of a self-proclaimed paint finish expert), super picky paint collectors might feel that the body should have been 100% stripped before repainting. This was not done. While some areas were fully stripped, other parts just got sanded down and feathered out in certain areas where the paint shop felt it was OK not to fully remove the original paint. We honestly can’t see evidence of this to our (pretty darned scrutinous) eyes but if you’re a paint fanatic, you should come and inspect it for yourself to feel confident in the level of finish quality. If you’re just a normal car lover like we are, believe us… you’ll be more than thrilled with the look of the paint. This was clearly no Macco paint-job. The new custom-made top, though purchased at great expense and installed professionally, doesn’t lay flat around the rear corners. We’re not sure if it can be stretched and is sold as-is in that way. No leaking problems but a little annoying to look at when the top is up (see photos). The trunk tends to leak a bit under certain blowing rain. New factory original gaskets are in place but likely some additional non-original gasketing would solve this easily. There’s also a little tricky leak around the grill on the hood in front of the windshield when it rains. We haven’t figured out the source of that yet. The driver door gets hard to close in very cold temperatures and then works fine again once the heat runs for a while. There are likely other little annoyances that we’ve overlooked so please view the photos very carefully of plan to come and inspect the car for yourself if those kind of things might be deal breakers for you. We’re doing our best to point out everything we know but this is a 50 year old car after all, and despite whatever efforts we can make to look it over thoroughly, no doubt we’ll overlook something. The car comes complete with many extras including extra rims, a never used custom cover and many extra parts. Of course it has its original manual, jack, tools, keys and other such items. More importantly, it comes with a fully detailed biography covering every aspect of the restoration, along with many hundreds of receipts, brochures for parts, and photos documenting the complete transformation of this vehicle. We have not mentioned how it drives yet but something had to come last. You’ll find that the motor runs like new as it essentially is, having only a handful of miles on it since the total rebuild. If you’re a 60’s era MG lover then you know how they sound (kind of a brab-brab-brab sound) and how they start in the cold (begrudgingly), and how they can sometimes be finicky. This motor will be exactly as you’d expect for better and worse. Folks expecting it to run and sound like a brand new BMW will no doubt be disappointed. Folks who already drive old Jags or Triumphs, or MG’s will be thrilled. All fluids and wear items like wipers, brake pads, tires, battery etc., are either brand new or virtually new (the spare tire is original to the car but was never used). Thus you can expect it to handle, brake and otherwise drive as a MGB should. All lights, wipers, heat and defroster work as originally intended. Again, if you’re expecting the comfort and feel of a new BMW then you’ll hate driving this car. If you’re expecting to re-live the experience of a 1960’s roadster then you’ll be in 7th heaven. If you think this beauty might be for you, we recommend coming to take a look at it for yourself if at all possible. It is currently stored in a private garage in Pawtucket Rhode Island – Just minutes from Providence and the airport, so we are very easily reached by Amtrak, most airlines (including Southwest) and even the Megabus. We’ll be happy to assist you with travel and accommodation arrangements and the car is available for viewing and test driving 24/7. $500 Deposit via PayPal upon commitment to purchase.Balance due within 10 days via Cashiers or Certified check.Of course, cash is also accepted.Sorry. It is a faithful tribute to one of the great MG racing cars, the 1968 MG CGTS "Sebring" racecar. The iconic UK registration number, RMO-699F, is reproduced on the hood of the CGT. That registration number is where the car gets its "Romeo" nickname. This particular example is equipped with triple Weber carburetors, knock-off style Minilite wheels, and a beautifully done Sebring style kit including the fenders, hood and rear valance. The engine was rebuilt during the restoration of the car back in the mid-1980's. The transmission is a four-speed manual with overdrive that shifts well and has no issues. Many little details, such as the switches and gauges being faithfully reproduced to that of the factory Sebring racers, the removable racing decals, and the vinyl wrapped sport seats among other things make this truly a special car. This would be a great long distance road or vintage rally car. For the price we are asking you could not replicate this wonderful example of a 1968 MG CGT Sebring replica. 1973 MG MGB GT Car has been mechanically restored by a classic car mechanic in the last year. Car has a new fuel tank and sending unit, new exhaust, and the carburetors were rebuilt. Most importantly there is no rust in rockers, only surface rust on bonnet and tailgate as seen in pictures. The car has the original orange paint with black leather. Car is in excellent condition for age however the paint is clearly showing its age though at over 42 years old. All the trunk back tailgate hinges, windows, and controls work flawlessly. The radio does not work. Car has clean MA title. Please ask me any questions. Buyer is responsible for pickup. Car is located about 75 miles outside Boston.

Back to Top CONTACT US 401.438.4444 email 1964 MG B VIN GHN3L28684 MILEAGE 73804 STOCK No #1096 TRANSMISSION 4 Speed Manual w/ Overdrive ENGINE 4 Cylinder EXTERIOR COLOR Red INTERIOR Black Description In 1962 the MGA, the car that had revolutionized the small displacement sports car, was starting to lose it's radical edge in an age of unprecedented automotive innovation. In response to waning popularity, the folks at Abingdon went back to the drawing board to recreate the magic of the MGA. The result was a car that was, once again, decades ahead of its time. The MGB was so timeless in its styling, design and performance that it endured, without major redesigns, until production ended 18 years later in 1980. Of all the MGBs that were ever produced, the most desirable model is undoubtedly the MGB Mk1. The Mk1 MGBs were the purest of the Bs , these cars left the factory unhampered by the safety regulations and minor styling changes that would muddle future iterations of the car. Mk1 MGBs retain their removable folding tops that stow neatly in the trunk, leaving the lines of the car clean throughout the passenger compartment straight to the back of the car. They feature the handsome pull-handle doors that make them easily recognizable from later models. Perhaps the most attractive element that sets the early MGBs aside from later models though is the metal dashboard that harkens back to one of the most attractive styling elements of the MGAs (US safety regulations mandated a pillow dashboard for cars produced after 1967). Mechanically, the formula of the MGA remained alive and well in the MGBs. The B series engine transitioned from one car to the next, although it was enlarged to 1789CC for use in the MGB. Redesigned front disc brakes made for more reliable stopping power. Most radical though was the use of unibody construction on the MGB, making for a much stronger and stiffer body that not only aided in rigidity going down the road, but also provided unprecedented safety in the event of a collision. Of the MGBs built, less than 20% had factory overdrive, making it a very rare option. Overdrive cars could easily reach and surpass the 100mph mark. This 1964 MGB Mk1 presented here is, unabashedly, the best Mk1 MGB for sale on the market today. It has just undergone a complete bottom up, nut and bolt restoration at a well known British car restoration shop in Florida. From top to bottom you will not find a better looking car. This is just about as nice as you can get for a car that you can still expect to drive on the road, as opposed to trailering it from show to show. The paint is gorgeous and has deep lustre to it. The body is straight, rust free, and not bondo-ridden like so many of these cars are. You can expect this car to hold up for years to come provided it is cared for properly. Underneath, the car looks just as nice as it does on the top-side. Mechanically the car idles well, starts right up (even in the cold). Going down the road the car is extremely solid. It tracks straight and does not wander, even on the highway at speed. The transmission is smooth and quiet. All the synchro's appear in good order as you would expect on a car that has just been rebuilt. Speaking of speed, with the overdrive unit the car is comfortable at 80mph and beyond. It can genuinely be used alongside modern cars. This is not one that you need to keep off of the freeways. All of the gauges and electrical components work as they should. It should be added that, although not pictured, this car also comes with a restored period correct fiberglass hardtop, as well as a black soft top and a black tonneau cover. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions whatsoever about this vehicle. Back to Top CONTACT US 401.438.4444 email 1959 MG A Race Car VIN 59159 MILEAGE 99999 STOCK No #1038 TRANSMISSION 4 Speed Manual ENGINE 4 Cylinder EXTERIOR COLOR Green INTERIOR Red Description MG cars have a well-documented, successful racing history especially the MGA's. Three MGA prototypes were entered at Le Mans in 1955, two of which finished the race placing 12th and 17th overall, definitively proving the worth of the new car. The MGA has been raced extensively in the U.S. since its introduction into the racing scene in 1955 and with considerable success. In Sports Car Club of America competition the MGA has won numerous regional and national championships and has been a long-time favorite choice for those competing in vintage racing. This MGA - #18 - boasts tremendous history of its own, having been a race car its entire life and having raced back in period at Limerock and other east coast tracks. The owner we purchased this car from had been racing #18 for many years. Oxford Motorcars campaigned #18 at the end of last season on the track as part of a team of four MGA race cars, which we run in various regional vintage events and it has been a great addition to our team. Though not a front-line car, performance-wise, it is a beautifully set up car and the perfect car for someone who is eager to start vintage racing. The car has awesome aluminum racing buckets in it and we completed the interior by installing a brand new carpet kit. We made a few small alterations to make sure the car was suitable for the road as well as the track. For example, we put a street exhaust on the car because it was simply too loud to drive on the road before. Now you can throw your kit in the passenger seat and drive the car to the track if you'd like, just like the old days. We decided in the off-season that, since #18 was our only coupe, we would prefer to have another roadster as the fourth car on our MGA team and now it is time for #18 to find a new home. This MGA underwent a frame-off restoration right before we bought it last year, completed over a 10 year period, and bears the dash plaques and stickers from the various events the car has been entered in. All numbers stickers on the car are removable. The car has a welded rear-end, rebuilt shocks, a new exhaust, aluminum racing seats, built, balanced motor with Venolia pistons, balanced rods, an aluminum flywheel, a mid range cam, valve spacers, side draft Weber carburetor, Tilton brake and pedal assembly, layer cord radiator, fuel cell all the essentials for going to the track, as-is, today. The paint on the car is absolutely phenomenal by vintage race standards, it is one of, if not the, nicest looking MGs at the track. The paint job is completely thorough and was completed by a professional. The interior comes with a brand new carpet kit already installed. The car has Minilite wheels fitted with Hoosier TD race tires which are fairly worn, but not completely shot. The car runs and drives very well and is truly a gem for anyone who wants to dabble in vintage races, and even for those novices with more serious competitive aspirations. You won't find a fun, reliable, ready-to-run race car, with a lifetime of racing history and recent restoration anywhere else. You can reach us at (401)438-4444. Full payment is due within 7 days of the auction close by cash in person, bank-wire or another method agreed upon by the Seller. All buyers must contact Seller within 12 hours of the end of the auction or Seller may terminate the Purchase Agreement.
