If you are familiar with the story of the MGB GT V8, then you will be impressed with this vehicle. This 1974 MGB GTV8 is built as a tribute to both the effort that Ken Costello exerted in building the first V8 powered MGBs and one of the 7 factory left hand drive V8s imported to the states. Please note the following about this vehicle: · Straight, clean 1974.5 MGB GT built in October 1974 VIN GHD5UE362059G, Commission Number: G23D080735, Body Number: GU23D 00231GP;· Correct 215CI, 3.5L Aluminum V8. The block number is HI305245 which is the 1-year only (62’) 190HP@4,800 rpm 11:1 compression engine. This is the same engine Costello attempted to persuade British Leyland to use in the GT V8. Please note that is fed by an Edelbrock or Holley (?) 600cfm 4 barrel carburetor instead of the factory SU set up;· Factory brass top MGB GTV8 radiator and overflow canister;· Electric fan;· Factory 4spd overdrive transmission with 3rd gear lock out;· 5 correct Dunlop composite alloy factory MGB GT V8 wheels;· New tires (less than 1,000 miles);· Damask Red paint that looks impressive from 3 feet;· As a whole, this is a clean and well appointed interior including black vinyl seats with new foam and coverings (front and rear) mounted over grey carpet with grey headliner. · White Smith gauges;· New interior panels and switches;· Proper MGB GT V8 badging;· Leather wrapped small steering wheel for increased responsiveness;· 4 wheel tube shocks and proper ride height;· All glass and seals are in above average shape and/or have been replaced;· Later model vacuum assist brakes;· New battery;· Former museum vehicle; We would like to point out the following observations: · Passenger front fender has slight cracking in the paint. Does not appear to be “Bondo” cracking. Two small to get a photograph of and cannot be seen from 3 feet. It is there however;· Speedometer works but does not read correctly. I recommend having recalibrated;· Brakes work and are serviceable. I like the feel of non-vacuum, servo style brakes and am not used to the “consistent soft feel” of these. Of 23 MGs I have owned, I have only had one other with these brakes. It was the same way. I am told they are correct. They work, the car stops quickly and in a straight line. I point it out because it is something I would want to address out of preference and we want to be as transparent as possible in representing our vehicles. Overall this is one of the best built V8 MGBs we have come across. It is not a restro-mod. Aside from the carb and intake you have to know what to look for to know it is not a factory car. Car is in exceptional mechanical condition. I just completed a long weekend at the Texas MG gathering in Tyler (car placed 2nd in show) along with several shorter trips. Car runs and drives beautifully. One of the most modern feels of any MG I have owned. I would have no hesitation driving this vehicle anywhere. Feel welcome to contact me. There is no reserve. Please don't ask "what will we take?" We will take the asking price. We are open to other offers and we are going to sell the vehicle to someone who appreciates it. If you would like to buy the vehicle, make an offer and we can dialogue about the price and/or any possible trades you may have. You never know, we might accept your first offer! Please know you will not offend us, however, this is arguably one of the nicest, cleanest, most well appointed factory style V8 MGs to be offered in the recent past. Up for sale is “Jennifer”, a 1962 MGA MKII. Over the last 5 months she has undergone a sympathetic refurbishment to become the running, driving, stopping head turning car she is today. Here is a video link: https://youtu.be/8Hq2OZyIKy4 Here are some high pass details:Utilizing a scale similar to the Hagerty scale with 1 being a concourse and 4 being somewhere between a parts car and a working driver, this car is a 2- or 3+. Lacking very little to be a solid 2. Glad to discuss my opinion with you. My insurance established a value of $30K for the vehicle, though I believe that may be a little above current market conditions; Engine was rebuilt about 3,000 miles ago by the previous owner. It runs strong and pulls hard. Currently the car is fitted with a new Weber downdraft as this is my personal preference for a driver. The original SU carbs are included and are operable, though the cork seal on the back bank is leaking;Current Texas registration. Current Texas Inspection. Clear Texas Title in hand;Over the last 5 months every system has been looked at, touched, checked. We did what we thought necessary and beneficial to make this a car that can be driven to any show, enjoyed on backroads and make the owner proud. Here is a partial list of what was done: o Brakes: Master cylinder changed, rear shoes replaced, rear brake cylinders replaced, blead, cleaned, painted, emergency brake repaired o Cooling: Radiator replaced, thermostat replaced, Smith coolant gauge replaced, new fluids and “burped”; o Drivetrain: Engine evaluated, ignition wires and plugs replaced, generator pulley replaced, exterior gaskets replaced, transmission serviced, clutch disk and release bearing replace, new slave cylinder installed along with hydraulic line, propeller shaft cleaned and painted, differential serviced, o Electrical: Replaced harness, many switches, lights and fixtures so that currently every electrical device is operational; o Exterior: repainted with multiple coats of Omni base/Clear deep black. Replaced front & rear bumpers, replaced top, replaced spinners, repainted wheels with 3 coats of base & 3 coats of clear, new body pipping, new wheel spinners, new windscreen, new emblems and vents, new lift-the-dots o Interior: new carpets, new panels, new dash coverings, new rails and rail coverings, new steering wheel and hub, new thresholds, new blanking plate, reworked seats and seat frames, replaced tachometer, replace switch knobs, replace stainless screws, paint top frame, install wheel cover and trunk carpet kit, More work than this has been done, but this catches the big stuff. Look at the pictures. What does it need? That is up to you. My opinion is nothing for a fantastic driver. If you want to bump to a solid condition 2 car, I would suggest:Wet/Color sand paint to get the minor orange peel and little imperfections out. Paint is new, has not been waxed yet. Small dimple in passenger door from being shut to hard. Might push out. Overall exterior is a 7 to me;Reinstall heater unit which is included. Its Texas and I did not want to restore the unit; Obtain a correct set of side curtains, bag and drop cover;IDK what else. This is about as good as you get for under $30K. Car is located in Dish Texas which is North Dallas/Ft. Worth near Texas Motor Speedway. Please inspect or have inspected if you desire. Of course, with any car, she is being sold as is-where is. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive her across the country, though I’d rather do it in a B. Yes, I would consider a partial trade if it was right. It would have to be British as these are the old gals we have a passion for. Yes, I MIGHT help with getting her to you, however that will be OUTSIDE of this listing and NOT INCLUDED in the winning offer. Probably need to be within 350 miles or so. Give me a call, text or email. Bryan 940.206.9372. She is for sale locally so I reserve the right to terminate early. Feel welcome to ask questions.
