But what's even more remarkable is that this beautiful chopped show-stopper is a 4-door sedan! Yep, a lead sled that's also practical, how cool is that? It's easy to miss those extra doors in the back because the profile is so right. The five-inch top chop was expertly done and blends so seamlessly with the bodywork that you'd need a stock car next to it to see where all the surgery was performed. The classic low, wide look is 100% intact, regardless of how many doors you get, and they seem to have gone the extra mile to camouflage the rear doors as simply quarter windows. Very cool! Of course finish quality is exemplary, with ultra-smooth bodywork that probably took hundreds of hours to get to this condition and two-stage purple urethane paint that simply glows in the sunlight. The more notable mods include the aforementioned top chop plus a DeSoto grille, 1953 Buick side trim, and taillights expertly molded into the rear bumper for a very, very cool effect. The rear fenders were also lengthened and the fender skirts are, of course, a lead sled must-have along with the lake pipes on the side that are beautifully integrated into the bodywork. The door handles are shaved, the hood is nosed and decked, and there's a 1-piece windshield that definitely helps with the smoothie look. Very, very impressive overall. The two-tone leather interior is equally stunning and more than lives up to the standards set by the exquisite bodywork. Sculpted bucket seats anchor a fully custom-stitched passenger compartment that uses pleats, dramatic styling, and a few modern touches to really drive home the point. A custom-fabricated center console houses the shifter, power window switches, and A/C controls, blending seamlessly into the dramatic twin-cockpit dashboard. Beautiful gauges from Classic Instruments look like they're straight out of the Art Deco era and that nickel-plated Mercury head shifter knob is the coolest way to change gears we've ever seen. The back seat is equally well finished and actually usable by real-world passengers and the suicide-style door openings offer great accessibility without the headaches (literally) normally associated with a chopped top. The trunk is fully finished to match with nicely integrated panels that hide the inner workings of the Ride Tech air suspension and stereo system. You can forget old-tech power under the hood, as this cool custom features modern LS1 horsepower, complete with fuel injection for reliability and performance. Fully chromed, polished, and detailed, the all-aluminum V8 lives happily under the Mercury's pointed hood and looks awesome sporting custom coil covers with Mercury emblems on their faces. There's a heck of a lot of custom metalwork under the hood to make it look spectacular and everything is finished just as beautifully as the exterior. A 4L60E 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission makes it a superlative high-speed cruiser and there's a lot of time and effort wrapped up in the chassis to make it functional as well as ultra-low for looks. The suspension offers A-arms up front and a 10-bolt axle out back and there's a disc brake at all four corners, so this Merc has some rather surprising moves that are wholly unexpected from a lead sled. Wide whites and modified hubcaps with bullets give it the perfect finishing '50s look. My mind boggles when I try to imagine how much this car cost to build. Not quite twice as expensive because of twice the number of doors, but surely far more than the asking price. With just 739 miles on the build, this incredible Merc is ready to show at any level.
