This Cougar convertible is one of less than 2,000 XR7's built in 1970. It has the great large port 4 barrel Cleveland engine, power windows, NO air, and "stereo" labeled speakers. It is a disc brake car. It is rough. The car has been sitting outside, under a tarp since 1981 and shows it. The bottoms of the doors are rusted as well as the floor in all the typical locations. The front fenders don't look too bad and the quarters are straight but rusty. The trim has pitting but mostly there. In the engine compartment the carburetor and starter are gone. Plan on an engine rebuild or sell it to finance a new floor. This is a tempting car for me. I am going to sell it, part it, or rebuild it myself. By spring I figure I could have a solid rolling body to work with. Luckily, you get a shot at it because I just have too much stuff. The car is located between Buffalo and Rochester, New York. Shipping is your responsibility. I can help load it. Due to the length of time the car has been unused and off the road I can only provide a Bill of Sale as proof of ownership. I am selling a 1967 Cougar XR7 S code, automatic. This is a project vehicle, while it can move on its own, it will need work to become road worthy.The floors on the car are excellent but will need a passenger rear quarter. The passenger door was clearly replaced at some point. The hood and trunk lid are rust free. Usually they rot out at the front lip area but in this case they are both good. I got a picture of the hood but forgot to bring a screwdriver to open the trunk so I couldn't get a pic. The car is at my body guy's place. I have the other 6.5 Litre badge in the glove box, they are rare items. The engine runs but rough. Someone changed it over to a 2 barrel at some point which may be why. I have a date correct GT 4 bbl intake to go with car. Car has power disc brakes and power steering. The car stops but needs attention at the rear brakes, I think it is a line issue. The power steering pump and bracket is currently out of car. The system was completely dry. The headlight doors don't work but is all there, the sequential turn signals only work when car is running, they just stay steady when engine is off.As for the interior, the carpet is factory, will need headliner, all gauges work even the clock. Seats were changed at some point, has overhead console, the interior will pretty much need most items.While it has rough spots it is definitely a good project. Let me know if you have any questions.

VIN # 7F91C508609 Engine: 289 ci 2 bbl Transmission: 3 speed C4 automatic 2 door coupe, exterior: red interior: black power steering 4 wheel drum brakes. Mileage: 138,842 Fuel: gasThis is an example of an early 1967 Cougar. The original color was lime gold. At some time in its history the color was changed to maroon. I sanded the entire car and applied 4 coats of GM’s victory red over 4 coats of primer. A mat black racing stripe runs down the center of the hood and trunk lid. The bumpers and grill were blacked out. Installed is an Edelbrock 289 Performer RPM intake manifold, a Holly 4160 4bbl carburetor (an Autolite 4100 carburetor and a Holly 2 bbl carburetor are included along with the original 2 bbl intake manifold). The original distributor (included) was replaced with a modern GM style coil on cap distributor. An MSD 6AL is included but not installed. The starter and alternator were replaced and have no miles on them. I installed a chrome engine dress up kit. The engine was running strong with the 2 bbl set up. After converting to a 4 bbl I was not able to keep it running. The carb may need tuning or a rebuild. The brakes were completely restored and have fewer than 5,000 miles on them. The headlight doors were converted from vacuum powered to electric using two electric headlight door motors from a Mazda Protégé. I believe I still have the original vacuum motors and will include them. The clockwork mechanism that operated the sequential turn signals was replaced with a reliable electronic device. The front floor pans were replaced with reproduction floor pans. An auto dimming rear view mirror was installed. Installation of the replacement headliner needs to be finished. The front low back bucket seats were replaced with high back bucket seats. The rear bench seat was removed and two low back bucket seats are ready to be recovered and installed. The original door panels were removed (and included) and replaced with panels containing the arm rests from a 1987 mustang. The arm rests contain the electric push buttons used to unlock the doors. The door handles were shaved for a sleek appearance and a heavy duty remote door pop kit with two fobs was installed. The instruction page is included. The carpeting was replaced 15 years ago. The front passenger side is showing signs of wear from my wife’s high heel shoes. The neutral safety switch on the outside of the transmission does not work so the car will start in any gear – please make sure it is in park or neutral before attempting to start the car. I installed old school rear shackles on the leaf springs to enhance the traditional 60’s muscle car look. The front and rear window trim is included as well as a square style outside rearview manual remote mirror. I'm also including the shop manual. Couple dings and small dents in the body and a couple small rust holes. Underside is nice. Could use a tune up. Needs front springs or shocks, if you push down on the car you can hear the spring or shock creaking. Nothing rusted out though. This is a very basic 1968 Mercury Cougar base. I purchased this car with the intention to restore it but after 10 months I realized I have no time so here it is. This Cougar sold new in S. California and been there pretty much all its life. I was told I am the third owner but can't verify. I will try to explain the car in much detail as possible. Body: Other than a rot hole in each door and rear quarter the vehicle is rust free. Floors, torque boxes, shock towers, trunk pan etc. are mint. Door gaps are good, trunk lid has a crease, hood is not rusted but needs alignment. Taillight panel is pushed in slightly. My body guy started work on the passenger rear quarter but I told him to hold up when I decided to sell. Interior: All there but needs everything. Still has shoulder harness belts, seats must be from a 1967 car (no seat fold latch) I removed the junk since the pics were taken. Drive train: The original 289 is gone and now has what I believe a 1970 302. Has late 1970 302 heads and mid 1969 2 barrel intake, so the block is probably different too. Runs good, does not blow smoke but has a slight lifter tick? It still has what I believe the original 3 speed and 8 inch rear. I had the Marti Report but lost it, here is what I remember: Color is Polar White, black standard interior, 289 2v, 3 speed manual, 8 inch rear end with 2.79 gears (great for highway). Vehicle was ordered as dealer stock with ZERO options, not even an AM radio. This would be great for a resto-mod or just to make your own. Tires hold air, needs brakes, cannot be driven. This car has seen better days but is 98% complete with just a few misc items missing. Notice the rocker panel moldings, I think those were off a 1969 Cougar with a special appearance package (can't remember the name). I have no idea how those got there. The battery and carb in the pics are NOT included, so it will need those two items as well. Here is a list of parts that will go with car:-Extra pair of taillights (better condition than the ones on the car)-Extra horn pad (better shape than the one on there now)-Complete set of XR-7 door panels, front and rear, fronts are warped and need to be re-backed. They do reproduce the backings. Coverings are in great shape.-XR-7 map console and dash harness if you do chose to install and wire in. In the trunk there is pretty much a bin of misc Cougar parts left from the previous owner. I haven't really looked through it although I did notice some extra "Cougar" or "Mercury" badges, rear view mirror, sequential turn signal units, carbs, etc. I don't know what is usable or not but it is all included. Here is a somewhat unusual car. 1972 cougar xr7 with factory 351 Cleveland 4v q code- 4 bolt main and 4 speed top loader, 9" rear and staggered shocks. Heavy duty front sway bar and rear sway bar. This is a one owner car and although it needs to be restored, it is not a basket case by any means. Torque boxes rockers are good. Floor needs repair on drivers side front and a small area on rear passenger side needs repair. Needs quarter panel repair along with miscellaneous metal repair including; trunk pan needs replacing, fenders need some work , doors are pretty solid , cowl is pretty good needing two small holes on drivers side repaired. Bottom of rediator support and front bumper mount needs repair from battery leak. I haven't tried to start it . Starter is bad but it should start when gone through properly. Overall a complete car.
