This is a 1979 Mercury Capri Convertible. Yes, that's correct, a 1979 convertible! You will recall that few convertibles were made in the 1970's. However, in 1979, one could walk into a Mercury dealer, purchase a Capri hatchback and have it made into a convertible. That's just what my father-in-law did. Just over 500 were made. And, of course they were the precursor to the 80's Mustang convertibles. This car is truly a piece of automotive history! The car has been in the family since manufacture. It has recently had the engine rebuilt and rims and tires were replaced. I have the original metric rims if you are interested at a small extra cost. New brake lines and a new windshield were added to make the car road worthy again. As it is about 37 years old, it needs an interior, paint, and a convertible top (thanks to the hail storms that we have in the Denver area). Please see pictures.

Do not buy this car if you do not like attention! Guaranteed to get smiles, waves, thumbs-ups, and comments at gas stations. We've even had notes left on the windshield. Not many of these on the road anymore, and I was happy to help this one survive a bit longer. Purchased 5 years ago and fixed it up a bit for a daily-driver for my wife and kids. (Yes, this has the kid-favorite "jump seats" in the back, which can be folded down along with the back seat for plenty of storage… I've routinely carried my mountain bike back there). Maaco paint job is just a couple years old, with custom real wood veneer (Cherry, stained & varnished) accents along the rockers and tailgate. The good: classic wagon (you'll hear "Family Truckster" comments from total strangers)seats 75.0 V8 motor (302); AOD overdrive tranny runs like a sewing machineplush leather seats LS model was top-of-the line: auto headlights, auto temp control, opera lights, cornering lights, etcnot too high mileage for 30 year-old carnew heater core (that was not a fun job)aftermarket sound system (CD, aux input, 6x9s in the rear, hidden amp, remote) The bad: classic "old-car leaky"; drips when parked A/C doesn't work — I prefer windows down on these old cars, so never even looked into it (fuse? motor? compressor? don't know)headliner starting to droop a bitbottom cushion of back seat torn; we use a color-coordinated Mexican blanket (looks great)driver's door needs to be locked with key (all other doors lock with power)wood accents starting to peel up in a couple of places — easy to fix in the summer temps when more pliable Located in Golden, CO. 1954 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley, 2dr H.T. It is an older restoration, straight, rust-free body with no visual body work. Older red/White vinyl interior in excellent condition. It has the correct original 256 CID OHV 2v-V8 with dual exhaust, AT, PS, front disc brakes added(old parts retained) and vintage air. Runs good and sounds better. All Chrome and stainless are in great shape and complete with all lenses. It has a 4-way power seat and Merc-o-Matic. The original wheels and hubcaps have been saved and go with the car. The odometer reads 46,441 miles. It is a very clean driver of a model that gets harder to find each year.

New paint color change, new power top buckskin color all new valves pump hoses. New seats carpet. All gauges and lights, radio heater work clock does not work. New tires brakes master cylinder . Has a couple of leaks power steering hose and trans gasket working on them now. I was going to take the motor out this winter and rebuild and paint the engine compartment. Mercury : Other Runabout Sedan 3-Door 1978 mercury bobcat runabout sedan 3 door 2.3 l

The car runs and drives and stops. It is the Mercury Bobcat rebadged Ford Pinto. Ford made over a million Pintos during its run. Mercury made only about 233,000 over its run. So the Bobcat is a rarer find. Cat comes with a 2.3L, 4 speed manual transmission. Body is near perfect except for the dent that is described above, and the rust appears just to be surface rust from the paint peeling. The car appears to have 21,000 actual original miles on it. It shifts good and clutch seems to be good. Only issues that I have found is the carb may need rebuilt which I'm trying to get done while this is posted. The engine seems to smoke sometimes, but it may just be from setting for a while. Once the car is ran often, the smoke will cease hopefully. The car has not been driven much in its lifetime which makes me think that the smoke that comes out (when it does that is) is just from setting around collecting oil/fuel deposits. The radio works good even though the antenna is not attached to the mount. It is currently in the back of the cat. Tires appear to be good with descent tread. Spare is ok. The interior is great for a cat from 78. It has some fading on the carpet and some other blemishes on various parts in the interior, but nothing really major. The cat does not have air conditioner. The defroster blows and the fan blows out on high. Horn works. All lights work. Doors close with ease. Windows role up and down, but are a little tight. Window knob missing from handle on driver door. All in All an awesome car for someone out there who knows its value.
