1980 Mercedes 300TD station wagon in original condition with 71,115 miles* and in great condition. It's not perfect, but a very nice survivor car- not restored. This has always been a West Coast car (bought in California and lived mostly in Washington), so there is no rust to speak of (including wheel wells, frame and door sills). The underside of the car is dry- There appears to be little or no fluid leaks! The engine runs strong and smooth. It starts immediately and stops immediately like a healthy diesel should. Everything on the car is original from what I can tell-except for the tires and some body rubber. The body is totally straight and tight. The paint and chrome and aluminum trim are in fantastic shape. The interior is gorgeous (except for some carpet and dash issues). Almost EVERYTHING on the car works (very unusual for a 34 year old car). This is a low mileage* wagon that I was told sat for many years, but the fuel system (hoses, injectors, filters) were serviced/replaced. The mileage is not guaranteed- That said, the condition of the car is consistent with a sub 100k mile car. The car is water tight- although some of the exterior seals look original and crispy. Yesterday I got stuck in Giant's victory parade traffic- it took 2 hours to travel 3 miles- the engine temp never got above 90 degrees. Oh and there are NO RATTLES! This is a 34 year car and I'm not a mechanic (so I can't evaluate things in micro detail), so the car is strictly sold AS-IS. However, this is a car that with a few thousand dollars and some elbow grease can easily be a show car. I bought the car only a few weeks ago on an impulse. My intention was to run this on biodiesel, but I never bothered to check availability in San Francisco. One would expect easy available biofuel in such a progressive hippie mecca, but there is only ONE retail location and it is in a very out of the way location with limited hours. That is one of 2 reasons why I am selling it. The other is that it is not a great hill climber (apparently these MB diesels are notorious for that as I just found out)- and if there is one thing that we have more of than hippies here, it is hills! I'm going to keep my 1991 300SE gasser Benz. Items that have been repaired recently: Front alignment, Valve adjustment, Drive axel replacements, Fluid and Filter changes, Vacuum system... Things that work just fine: ENGINE, Air conditioning, Heater, Defroster, HVAC vents, HVAC controls, Power door locks, Rear hatch lock/latch, Rear hatch struts, Cooling system, Exhaust system, Gaskets, Steering, Brakes, Emergency brake, Exterior lights/signals, Interior lights, Hazard lights, Radio, Seat belts, Hoses, Belts, Lines, Clock, Pressure/Temp/Gas gauges, Seat adjustments, Seatbelts, Gearshift, Power windows (mostly), Power steering, Power brakes, Horn, Spare tire, Glovebox latch, Folding rear seat hardware, Rear cargo door/hatch, accessory and spare tire covers/hatches, Windshield wipers, Door and hatch glass, Hood latch/checks, Seat covers, door panels, headliner, steering wheel, headrests, armrest and interior plastic trim… Problem areas: The ride is very bouncy- the rear suspension pressure regulators need replacing, Temperature setting control is inconsistent, Passenger door key lock, Dash cracks, Rock chip on windshield, Door hinge check straps, Cassette player, Front door map pockets, Wiper fluid (pump is shot?), Front and back seat carpeting, **one window control is buggy and one window go up/down not so smoothly.*I witnessed the odometer get stuck once, then unstick itself soon after, so I'm suspicious about the accuracy of the reading. The car is available for inspection and test drive in San Francisco, CA. I travel a lot, but will do my best to make the car available...
