A Mighty Mercedes - 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3L V8 W109!!!!!! Few vehicles are as distinctive and unique as the 108 and 109 chassis Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Although there are other vehicles that are instantly recognizeable - the Gullwing Mercedes, the '57 Chevy, and the DeLorean to name a few - there is no other vehicle so classy, yet affordable as a 108 or 109 chassis Mercedes-Benz. These models also made their way into many shows and movies - and still do, even to this day. From Seinfeld ("The Jimmy") to The Simpsons ("The Bart Wants What It Wants"), and every genre in between, the 108 and 109 will live on forever. The 108 and 109 Chassis Mercedes Benz vehicles are the last truly hand-built S-Class Mercedes vehicles (aside from some current AMG models). They were also the last vehicles with the infamous "Mercedes look" - stacked headlamps (on North American versions), curvy hoodlines, and a very large front grille. To this day, many people can still recognize their lines as distinctively Mercedes, even if they were not even born when the model was still in production. Now what we have here is a true example of amazing and somewhat crazy German Engineering!!!! Daimler-Benz has produced many Mercedes models which have, in their respective ways, achieved great success on the tracks and in daily driving. The Blitzen Benz, the 540K, the 770K, and the "Silver Arrows" are some that immediately come to mind. However, few Mercedes have possessed more extraordinary qualities than a little known model of the late 1960s -- the 300 SEL 6.3. 0 to 60mph in 6.5 Seconds! Powerful Fuel Injected M100 6.3 Liter V8 (out of flagship 600 Series Mercedes Pullman) Pumping 300HP and 434 Ft-LBS of neck snapping torque!!! First, study the performance results: 0 to 60mph in 6.5 seconds; 0 to 80 in 12 seconds; 0 to 120 in 31 seconds. A power to weight ratio of 12.9 pounds per horsepower. A top speed of 137mph (220kph). A very fast car, by any standards. And startling when you realize that the 6.3 weighs over 3800 pounds, has a four-speed automatic transmission, air-conditioning, air suspension, power brakes on all four wheels, power steering, acres of highly polished walnut trim, and deep, deep crushed velour upholstery. This is the car that has been called, quite rightly, "the executive road racer." It was the Fastest Production car of the Late 60’s and early 70’s!!!! What set this car apart from its contemporaries in the late 1960s was that it could cruise all day long at speeds over 200 km/h (124 mph) with 5 occupants in complete comfort!!!! Mercedes produced ONLY 6,526 6.3's between December 1967 and September 1972. Of these, only 1,839 made their way stateside, making this particular Benz one of those cars!!! Add the highly desirable Sunroof option, and number of these bad boys is even smaller!! This Beautiful Benz was parked into storage few years ago as its owner started having health issues and it wasn’t driving it anymore. He owned it since 1988 and it was his pride and joy! His plan before the car was parked was to restore it back to its full glory! According to him it was in great running condition before it was stored and parked. With fresh tune-up, fresh gas, and some Tender Loving Care, it should be smoking tires in no time! Air suspension is deflated, and we put in spacers so vehicle can be rolled without issues and any damage to the undercarriage. Previous owner said that suspension functioned well before the car was parked. This Mercedes is a fun project, and it is perfect for somebody who wants to do a full restoration, and have a super rare and wonderful show car and the investment, OR for somebody who can fix it up to be their daily driver, and then slowly restore it to its full beauty at their own pace!! Walkaround This Mercedes was repainted in early 90’s, and paint still shows nicely. Upon closer inspection, there are some age imperfections, and paint bubbles, but for a daily driver it is nice and presentable. Original color was Dark Tobacco Brown (Paint Code 423H tabakbraun dunkel) , and current paint is a bit lighter metallic brown. Chrome is also nice and complete. Structurally this Mercedes is very solid with the exception of some rust in the trunk area, the usual suspect on these cars (Please see pictures). Rest of the car is really solid with some minor surface rust here and there, mostly due to the car being stored for the past few years. This was Georgia car its whole life. Interior is all original and complete, but after 44 years, it needs to be refreshed and Original seats need to be reupholstered. Everything is there down to its Kienzle Clock and its WORKING Original Becker Mexico Radio!!! It also comes with power windows, rare Power Sunroof, and original Behr Air Conditioning All in all it’s a very nice, complete and unmolested car that has a lot of potential, and considering its history and heritage it can make a very nice and fun project, and great return on investment!!! Fully restored and mint models are slowly approaching $100,000 mark because of its rarity. Owners manuals are present as well!
