1980 Mercedes 300SD with receipts, receipts, receipts showing extensive care and maintenance unparalleled. In the photos is the evidence of the thousands and thousands you DO NOT have to spend to make this car useable. Maintenance is key in the long life these cars are known for and this car is the exception to the norm. The norm being unmaintained, misused and abused by negligent owners who bought a diesel with the hopes they would never need to even change the oil. Add to that the fact that old cars are just that, old cars. When you buy an old car there will be problems every single time. No matter how low the mileage or how old the lady was that drove it to church. The best car you can buy is a PROPERLY maintained car, above all, and that does not mean just regular oil changes with whatever oil was cheapest. Thanks to the meticulous attention to maintenance and repairs this car is just about as good as it gets. This car is strong competition for a brand new car in terms of reliability and in fact I would take this car around the world tomorrow if time allowed. A stunning color combination of Magnolia Brown over Palomino interior. Added were the chromed Bundt alloy wheels which have brake dust shields installed behind them. There is a new Kenwood Bluetooth cd/usb/radio with 2 auxiliary jacks (one in the glovebox and one on the face) for a USB stick, iPod or similar to be connected. The Antenna is original and has been restored to full functionality including the height adjustment. The original fader in the center console retains it's functionality and the speakers have all been upgraded to the highest quality Polk units available. The car retains it's vintage charm and wonderfully clacky diesel engine while taking a modern approach to the creature comforts. The dash does have some cracking and the drivers door panel has one crack in it as well. The speedometer reads fast meaning when the speedometer reads 50 you are doing 42. I believe at one time the car had larger tires fitted, maybe 215 75 14s and the speedometer was calibrated to them at that time. The tires are currently the original size, hence the discrepancy. And the last thing I can think of is that the Newer aluminum climate control servo has a bimetallic valve that holds back the vacuum to the interior fan too long. It's purpose is to make sure the car is up to temperature before allowing the fan to run but it takes until a couple minutes after the car has reached temp to allow the fan to run. This can easily be bypassed by plugging the two vacuum lines together or a new valve ordered, but I left it hooked up as intended and intended to get around to it. Aside from the cracks on the dash and the crack on the drivers door panel the rest of the interior looks excellent. The seats are firm and without broken springs, though MB Tex - they require no maintenance, only cleaning, and wear better under any circumstance than leather. The wood shines and the chrome is exceptional. The engine strums to life after a short glow and flip of the key. The brakes are recent replacements as well as all the fluids. There is no slop in the driveline, the transmission has been fine tuned in regards to shift timing and allowing the turbo to spool while shifting sharply though not aggressively. All of the mechanicals have been ironed out and this car is ready to drive across the country, Alaska or the southermost tip of South America. The vacuum locks operate correctly and a few vacuum diaphragms have been replaced. The cruise control system has been rebuilt and works perfectly. I just took a 600 mile round trip to near the Canadian border for camping and everything worked without issue and I used cruise control the whole way. EXTRA BONUS - There is a spare fuel tank fitted, was done at the dealer back in the day and it fills through the stock fuel filler. It extends the range to DOUBLE while not compromising too much trunk area. This is a rare accessory that was fitted when owners wanted to visit the diesel station as little as possible. I did the trip without filling up once and still had 1/3 a tank at the end. Access to the spare, jack and tools remains. While the spare has never touched the ground you never know when it might be needed. The front and rear window seals along with the rear window have been replaced due to age and the rear window had 1/2" of a frosty look at the base. The new seals and glass are 100% dealer parts. There are no aftermarket parts on this car aside from lightbulbs and windshield wiper blades. The windows were also tinted to keep the damaging UV rays off of the interior. A new dealer trunk seal was also fitted as well as tail light seals. The car is watertight in even the most torrential rainstorm. The steering box has been replaced as well as the tie rods, center link and drag compensator - then it was aligned. The steering is now 100% tight and 100% straight. There is much more in the service history I am not listing, but there is just not enough time in the day to write everything and you probably wouldn't want to read it anyway.
