I am selling my 1991 Mazda Miata convertible. It has been a terrific car for me, averaging about $200/year all-in for maintenance over the past 8 years. I am selling because my driving habits have changed and I live in the city, where storage space is scarce for an extra car. The car runs beautifully and looks a fraction of its age. It is a survivor - it has had no major work done and has its original body panels, paint, mechanicals, and (mostly) stock configuration. Even the original floor mats, soft top cover, and owner's manual are present. Never a single mechanical breakdown in the time I have owned it. Engine idles smooth and quietly, revs freely, and pulls strong through each gear. The transmission shifts perfectly and there are no mechanical or electrical issues that I can identify. The A/C and heater both work perfectly, as do all interior mechanical bits like latches and knobs. Brakes feel sure. This car is tremendously fun and easy to drive and care for. It still corners like it's on rails. No excuses, nothing to hide or explain. It is a 5-speed manual with the base package: manual crank-up windows and non-power mirrors. About 1042XX miles on it as of this posting. I purchased the car in 2007 from the original owner, a neighbor who I know personally. I can furnish all service records from his period of ownership back to the original invoice, and all maintenance is accounted for and was done at a local Mazda dealership. For the last 8 years, I have mostly done my own maintenance and the car has been kept up to Mazda service intervals. I will provide an up-to-date maintenance schedule for the new owner upon request. It has been in the Pacific Northwest its entire life, and has been mostly garage-stored during winter. My area does not get much snow and does not use road salt so rust has not been an issue. The underside is clean, with even some paper factory decals still intact. The hardtop has been used every winter, which has preserved the soft top very well. The car is a stock NA except for an aftermarket shift knob, Sony CD player, speakers, high-dB horns, E-code headlamps, USB charge port, and a bolt-on subframe brace to help stiffen the chassis. Nothing has been done to the car that cannot easily be returned to stock. Nothing mechanical under the hood has been modified. In addition to the built-in soft top, it comes with a Mazda factory color-matched removable hard top as well as the hard-to-find factory short mud guards. THE HARDTOP IS NOT FOR SALE SEPARATELY. This is one of the early hardtops, which does not have a defroster or insulation. I have had the soft top off for inspection, and I can find no evidence of leakage anywhere on the car. There is absolutely no telltale rust along the back shelf, and the top's rain rail is clean and watertight. Rear plastic window is intact and nearly as clear as new. The gutters and drains get cleaned regularly, as do the typically gunk-collecting cavities behind the front wheels. Work done during my ownership includes:-Stock clutch installed at ~65K-Brakes replaced-Transmission & differential fluid flushes at Mazda recommended intervals, using Redline MTL-Recommended interval oil changes using Valvoline Synthetic and OEM or Wix filters-Tires replaced (Michelin Pilot)-New OEM radiator installed-New timing belt and water pump installed, including associated seals and pulley-New KYB shocks installed-OEM Mazda NB windblocker installed-New headrest speakers-New 6-1/4" Polk Audio speakers under original grilles. The imperfect:-The paint (which is 100% original) is fully intact but a bit chipped around the nose from road spray, etc. Nothing serious enough to cause rust.-The hardtop has several small (<1/8") paint bubbles and the lower edge. It was factory-painted, so they have been there for years and are stable and unbroken. Barely noticeable.-The soft top is original and needs to be treated gently. I can see one pinhole in a crease line, but no leaks. The front edge is slightly out of alignment with the windshield header, but can be adjusted.-The engine leaks a small amount of oil, a few drops a week when parked. I suspect a tiny break in the 24-year-old gasket sealing one of the oil galleys.-Minor parking lot dings and scuffs on the bumpers and doors. Only noticeable up close.-Upholstery is not damaged, but is pilling and fading in some areas. The foam in the driver's seat bolster has gone soft.-The battery is past its warranty period. I see no signs of needing replacement yet, but odds are this will need to be done in the near future.-The oil pan was once damaged when the car ran over a piece of metal debris on the roadway. It was professionally replaced along with some underside parts. No other damage. There is otherwise normal wear-and-tear for a lightly-driven vehicle of this age. Brakes feel in the normal range, but the pads/rotors tend to outlast the fluid due to the car's light weight and light use, so a bleed and flush may firm them up. Clutch release is a bit higher than new, but no apparent slippage or leakage in the system. The exhaust is original with no problems, and only light rust on the non-stainless components. Tires have about 50% tread left with even wear. The original rims have light chips and brake dust marks but no curbing. The windshield is original and has some light pitting due to road sand and small chips. No cracks or other damage.Note: the aftermarket glass wind blocker shown in one of the photos has been replaced with an OEM one, a Sony CD player has been added in the console blank, and the plastic steering wheel has been replaced with an OEM leather-wrapped one. WA title is clear and in my possession. The car will come with the original folding sun visors (which have been removed in the photos), original soft top cover, original shift knob, original single-DIN blank plate, factory service manual, and service documentation. An extra set of 4 refinished matching rims and a fitted Mazda car cover are negotiable. Please contact me before bidding and see the shipping note below.
