It also exchanges the old B-family engine for a 2.0-liter version of Mazda's corporate four-cylinder engine that's used far and wide in Mazda and Ford lineups. And inexplicably, the new car gets rid of a name that has meant so much to so many-Miata-and now calls itself simply the MX-5. But since Miatas have always been about the driving experience, let's cut to the chase and tell you what you want to know. How fast is the new car? How does it handle? And does it still have that unique ability to provoke an irresistible grin from anyone who loves driving? First, this new model is the fastest ever Miata-we know, we know, Mazda wants to forget about that name. It scoots to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, continues through the quarter in 15 seconds flat at 91 mph, and doesn't stop accelerating until it hits 131 mph. With the exception of the 91-mph trap speed, which was equaled by the turbocharged last-generation Mazdaspeed model, each of those figures sets a record for showroom MX-5s. And this performance is hugely faster than that of the original 1990 model, which needed 16.8 seconds to cover the quarter-mile and topped out at 116 mph. The new MX-5's numbers were achieved with the six-speed manual gearbox, which is standard on the Grand Touring edition we tested, as well as on the Sport and Limited versions of the new car. But we don't expect the performance to be much slower with the five-speed base car, as that transmission allows the MX-5 to reach 60 mph in second gear rather than requiring the extra shift to third that the six-speed does. The base model, called the Club Sport, weighs about 50 pounds less than the Grand Touring, which won't hurt its acceleration, either. Speaking of weight, we are delighted that the new model's weight gain is so slight. At 2482 pounds, this MX-5 compresses the scales with just 102 more pounds than the second-gen Miata we tested in 1998. Of course, the first Miata, in 1990, weighed 2210 pounds. But that model was about two inches shorter and narrower than the new car. It also had much smaller tires, 10 percent less cockpit space, brakes that were two inches smaller all around and without anti-lock control, no front or side airbags, no stability control, and 54 fewer horsepower from its engine, which was 25 percent smaller than the latest mill. In other words, the 12-percent weight increase between the first MX-5 and this newest version seems justified. One other reason for the weight is a useful increase in structural rigidity. We rate the improvement in our perceived stiffness of this third-generation car to be as great as the improvement between the first- and second-generation Miatas. The car is rigid, with hardly any quivers or shakes. This solid foundation allows the suspension to work effectively without any deflection or lost motion. Driven quickly over one of our favorite back roads, the new MX-5 is extremely stable even while its wheels move furiously to maintain contact with uneven pavement. The Bilstein shocks that are part of the optional $500 suspension package probably helped a lot on these roads. On the skidpad, the new MX-5 hangs on to the tune of 0.90 g, a figure exceeded by only one of the two Mazdaspeed Miatas we've tested. What's more, if you turn off the stability control that came in the premium package on our car, the MX-5 is delightfully neutral. Although you can't easily kick out the tail with power, you can definitely balance the car with your right foot once you start cornering with enthusiasm. About this car: This car we acquired from Mercedes Benz of Orlando in Orlando Fl, and it was a trade in for a new car. We drove it home 134 miles with no problem. Nice clean car, with relatively low mileage absolutely not reflecting the condition of the car. Smells nice, non smoker car, rides smooth with no light in the dash and no repairs needed. Vehicle Overview Mazda is the automaker most responsible for the sports-car revolution of the 1990s, and the Mazdaspeed MX-5 Miata continues to provide driving entertainment. You are bidding on my 2009 MX5 Miata. It has been adult driven since day one. It has been well maintained and will give you many years of trouble free service. I have upgraded this already great sports car with headers and sports exhaust. The exhaust is stainless steel from the headers back to the mufflers, so it will be the last exhaust the car will ever need. The handling has been improved with Eibach springs.This also lower the car 1 inche. I also installed a ram-air scoop with K&N air filter behind the front bumper. I was planning to supercharge this car but decided to get another car. I replaced the flimsy plastic shield under the motor with diamond plate aluminum. The right rear wheel has some sidewalk rash and the lower front bumper has a fold in it as seen on the pics. I believe the photos speak for themselves. Exterior Just as pretty in person with nothing to take away from the clean look and less than the expected small blems! Few little touchups I had done, one on the lower left edge of the front spoiler. What you see in the picture is before I touched it up with the right color. Just a scratch, nothing broken. I was very pleased with how this car looks and I'm sure you will too! Much better than most of the comparable ones out there!! If you know this particular model, then you may notice the plastic decorative pieces around the headlights are missing. I do have them in the trunk, removed them because they needed to be repainted. And I like this look better anyway! Even looks good with the top up! Great shape too with no tears and a glass rear window. That one small spot you see in the middle edge near the trunk is where a small hole was repaired. The other thing on the edge is just a leaf or something that made it into the picture! 17" MazdaSpeed alloys with 205/40/R17 radials. From all angles, one sharp looking car that anyone would be proud to own and drive! Interior Just as good inside and not smoked in! Very nice and clean with just light wear, commensurate with the year and miles. Not beat up or abused and the air is cold! Some wear at the top of the steering wheel. The Bose CD stereo sounds great! About the stereo- There is a disc in it and it does play, but for some reason will not eject. Also, the buttons are missing off the front as you can see, but you are still able to tune the radio. Included are the MazdaSpeed floor mats, owners manual and keys with remote. Also, the two front headlight trim pieces that I removed, they would need to be repainted if you even wanted to put them back on. Double sided tape is all you would need. Remember, I had the very important timing belt/water pump service done. Good for about another 100,000 miles! These are the front tires, the rears are brand new! The rear wheel drive cars tend to wear the back tires first and the ones on the car were too close to the wear bars for my comfort, so I had a new set put on the back. Got to love our Florida cars! Bidding/Buying Policies The advertised vehicle will be described as accurately as I can, but remember these are used cars, they will show signs as such. As stated before, each offering is checked over and inspected before selling, but you are not bidding on nor am I selling new or high priced certified pre-owned cars, so there may be parts of the vehicle that are not like new. Depending on the age of the vehicle, the various systems involved will be at different levels of wear/service life and there may be the typical small chips/dings, blems and other signs of normal wear, inside and out, that you would expect on used vehicles. Customer is responsible to obtain their own insurance on any vehicle purchased. Insurance is provided by the transport company for all vehicles during shipping, but my insurance ceases to cover anything once it is sold. Sold being described as when funds are received in full, not at the time the vehicle is delivered. According to Federal guidelines, all vehicles 10 or more years old are sold exempt from mileage guarantees unless specifically mentioned. If I have documentation to back up the mileage on these older cars, I will. Payment must be made by cash-in-person, cashiers check, money order or bank to bank wire transfer. A $500.00 non-refundable deposit will be expected within 3-5 days following close of auction and remainder paid within 7-10 days. If you have a special situation, please feel free to call ahead of time to discuss. I am very easy to deal with! Florida residents must include 6% sales tax. According to Florida law, if an out of state purchaser takes delivery of a vehicle in the state of Florida I am obligated as a licensed dealer to collect sales tax at a rate equal to the purchasers state sales tax and not to exceed 6%. The purchaser will then be given a notarized form from the State of Florida proving tax paid to present to their tax collectors office for sales tax credit. You DO NOT pay sales tax twice! Any additional fees or taxes will be the responsibility of the purchaser. This does not apply to vehicles shipped out of state, only ones picked up in Florida. Buyer assumes the cost and responsibility of shipping. I already have contacts to ship the vehicle anywhere in the USA, so I can help arrange this for you and give you cost estimate ahead of time. If you are going to fly in and drive home, I will gladly pick you up from the Ft. Myers International Airport and provide you with a free 30 day temporary plate for your vehicle. You must have insurance before a temporary plate can be issued. All vehicles do have clear titles and are guaranteed to be clean and free of any liens or brands such as salvage or rebuilt. Occasionally, a title will be in transit from the bank or dealership because of a loan payoff and may not be in my immediate possession, but will be processed to you as soon as physically possible. Any buyer with a negative rating will be ignored unless he contacts me first with a good explanation. There is no sense in running up the prices by people who have problems following through with commitments. Remember you are entering into a legally binding contract. By the bidding and/or purchase of this vehicle, buyer obligates him or her self to agree with all guidelines and statements made on this auction page by the seller including "as-is" no warranty statements, sales tax regulations, and insurance requirements.
