Time Capsule. Spectacular 5-Speed V8. 4 Cam A/C. VIN: AM1071006 Maserati began production of the 4-door luxury Quattroporte sedan in 1963. Production was launched in Italy, and since then there have been six generations of the Quattroporte model. The first generation of this lavish sedan was produced from 1963 to 1969. As the sale of Maserati automobiles increased, the styling and speed of the car drew the attention of Prince Karim Aga Khan who ordered a special Maserati 5000 WP in 1962. The following year, Maserati launched is first-generation Quattroporte, which was strikingly similar to the earlier design. The design of the first generation was conducted by Pietro Frua and joined two other notable touring sedans, the Facel Vega and Lagonda Rapide. The Quattroporte I boasted a 4.2-litre V8 engine, which could produce up to 256 horsepower. These sleek sedans were also equipped with either a 5-Speed ZF manual transmission or 3-Speed automatic. Between 1963 and 1966 only 230 units of this model were made. In 1966 the Maserati Quattroporte went through a revision receiving new twin headlights and in 1968 a 4.7-litre 295hp engine replaced the 4.2-litre V8, making this car the fastest 4-Door sedan in the world at the time. The subject car hails originally from California and is a 5-speed model. It has been lying dormant for some time and hasn’t been on the road for over a decade. We originally had this car back in the 90’s and sold it to a local enthusiast. Over the last 25 years it was driven very sparingly. We recently bought it back as the gentleman was downsizing his lifestyle, and removed it from the heated garage where it had been slumbering. The help of world-renowned factory trained Maserati/Ferrari Master Technician Ray Segale was requested. Segale came in from Sun Valley, Idaho and gave the car a comprehensive service and tune. Fluids were flushed and changed. The car was brought back to life. The car runs, drives, shifts and stops well. Gas tanks were cleared, electrical sorted and the fine tuning of an expert all lavished upon this lovely dame. Rear windows need switches, the front windows work well. As of the moment, we are missing one hubcap. The interior is nothing short of spectacular. The original leather is still supple and in remarkable condition. The body is very straight and nicely balanced. The panel fit is brilliant. The brightwork all still in good form with no appreciable scaling or pitting. The paintwork now 30 to 40ish years old has a few flaws. The primrose color looks great with the black interior but there are minor chips and scratches. There is minor bubbling at the base of the A pillars/rocker areas below the front doors. These imperfections are exactly the same size as they were 20 years ago or so and have not changed while in the custody of the prior owner. This is air conditioned car but it will require some service and likely conversion to R.23. The term “barn find” is tossed around too easily. This car was never left to be shat upon by poultry. It is, however, an exceptional example of preservation and indeed “time capsule” condition. It looks like a 5-year old car. Having been loved and parked for decades, it is now ready to reunite with the road. The proud new owner will love the feel and drive. To the best of our knowledge we have indicated any mechanical problems that are present in the description above.
