Production of these vehicles was to re-ignite the Lotus brand in the United States and save the dealership relationships for selling Lotus exotics. The company had nearly failed and a plan was conceived to revive the automaker with 50 "Investor-Gift vehicles" for investing in the company. As an investor, you needed a sizeable amount of cash and provable income. You would be taking a small stake in the company as well and promised healthy "double your income" returns along with your own custom Special Edition Turbo Esprit. These Esprit Turbos were ordered in various colors other than the base silver.The cars were numbered 00-49, but were not delivered in perfect numerical order. The cars #47, #48, and #49 were sold at retail to validate the price before distributing the other 47 to investors. These units retailed for around $65,000!
