This car was bought new on October 23rd 1968 at Paul A Ziegler Lincoln Mercury in Bishop, CA by its first owner Mr. Ben Elliott, who sold it to its only other owner in the early '80s. The second family purchased it from Mr Elliot and used it to pull their 1966 light travel trailer that it is being offered with today. Don't miss your chance to own a true time capsule...bid now! The paint on the car is finished in gorgeous original color of Huron Blue. After looking the car over we believe this is an original paint car. It was just carefully cut and buffed to a nice shine and shows very well! There are assorted chips on the front of the car from its road-tripping uses. The front and rear cowls show fading from the sun but have not been repainted. These cars are becoming harder and harder to find in their untouched form and we thought best to leave this one as so. This car is a totally solid, rust free car, and obviously never saw snow or salt. The underside of the rockers, quarters, fenders, and floor boards are solid as a rock, and the wheel wells look so clean, just the way a California car should. All correct trim and emblems are present and in great shape. The chrome does show some pitting from its just under 68k miles of use. The vinyl top is in nice shape with no apparent rips or tears. I like the look and think it gives the car a clean, classy look. All of the glass is original and the windshield is crack-free. The car rides on four new 15" Hankook whitewall tires and still retains its correct hubcaps which gives the car a very nice look. The interior is all original and in very good condition. The original leather seats are extremely soft and supple and look like new. Door panels Dash, and carpet are all original and in perfect condition. The odometer currently shows only 67700mi, which is stated to be Actual miles by the Arizona title. The wood inlayed steering wheel is in excellent condition and is usually a good indicator of use and miles driven. The seats are in excellent condition with almost no ware- only some slight creasing on the driver's bolster. Under the hood is spotless and the proper decals look like new. Power windows, locks, seat, antenna, wipers, and defog work correctly. The climate control is working correctly and the A/C blows ICE COLD. The trunk interior is like new condition and has all of the original cardboard and original carpeting which looks very nice. The space saver spare is also still aboard as well as the jack and all original tools. Mechanically, this Lincoln runs GREAT! This car features the 460ci V8. This car always starts right up and shifts so smooth it is difficult to feel the transition between gears. Under the hood is very clean and all original.The car tracks straight and rides and drives just like a new Lincoln should! The 1966 single axle camper trailer is very original as well and period correct in fit an finish. The trailer will sleep two adults and up to two children comfortably. Inside has a nice closet, sink, icebox, gas Magic Chef range and stove! All functioning. The trailer also has a fresh water tank for the sink. Includes all camping items. The car includes two sets of original keys, spare tire, jacking equipment, and the original manuals. All in all, this is one of the coolest and most original Lincoln's I have ever owned. It has been professionally maintained and truly loved by its previous owner. NOTE: Odometer reads 76,279 but only 300 miles are on her since she was mechanically restored! The story goes, that one early September morning in 1965, Ford Motor Company Vice President Lee Iaccoca had a revelation, whereupon he picked up his telephone and promptly woke up Eugene Bordinat, Ford's chief stylist. Iaccoca issued an eight word directive. "Put a Rolls Royce grille on a Thunderbird". The result of that phone call became Ford Motor Company's first true personal luxury car, the 1969 Continental Mark III, an automobile that was once known for having the longest hood (six feet) of any factory production car. This particular '69 Mark III was built at the Wixom, Michigan assembly plant on April 29, 1969, and delivered directly to the Lincoln division's Los Angeles District Sales Office. 1969 was the final year before manufacturers were required to begin installing emission systems and emission controls, thereby hampering horsepower. This car was purchased new by Jack L. Warner of Warner Bros. Studios and was kept at his Indian Wells, CA home which is near Palm Springs, CA. His Eldorado Country Club sticker is still affixed to the windshield. She was driven by actor William Windom (Commodore Matt Decker of the USS Constellation in Star Trek, TOS episode "The Doomsday Machine") in the 1984 movie "Pigs vs. Freaks", starring Adam Baldwin and Brian Dennehy. Mr. Windom played the town mayor. I acquired this car in 2008 from a conservancy which had owned it subsequent to Jack Warner's death in 1978. The exterior is a beautiful Medium Aqua Metallic with an off white vinyl top. The interior is an Aqua colored cloth with matching vinyl trim. The chrome is outstanding and shiny, and the stainless is in remarkable shape with very few if any dings or dents. There are a couple of flat dents near the center of the hood, but they won't photograph. There are a few places which have been roughly touched up by hand. There is no rust except under the lower left corner of the vinyl top at the body line. This can be easily repaired. The vinyl top itself could use a really good professional cleaning. This car is a very nice weekend or summertime driver, it especially looks gorgeous driving into a sunset. If I were to keep her, my plans were to replace the existing interior with a leather version. There isn't enough damage to the original paint to warrant stripping and repainting this car, not if you are going to drive her and not make her a show car or a garage queen. Some people will claim they have an original car with only 10,000 original miles on it, and that its worth a fortune. That is utter garbage. The true enemy of a car isn't mileage, it's time. Seals dry out, lubricants turn to sludge, gaskets crystallize, gas turns to varnish, and rubber rots, and those who have not gone through their cars and addressed all of these potential problems as I have, are offering you a mechanical nightmare in the making. In 2012, I spent money, and lots of it having this car fully and completely mechanically restored. The 460 Cubic Inch Engine was bored out to 475 CID, and a new cam, crank, lifters, timing chain, etc. installed as well as titanium valve seats so there is no need to worry about leaded fuel or additive. She runs on 92 Octane unleaded or better. All paintable parts were painted and the interior of the engine compartment cleaned and touched up. Yes, this pig will burn rubber and run like a rabbit, all while the fuel gauge drops before your very eyes but heck, it's only money and you're enjoying a sweet ride in one of the greatest land yachts ever built. The 4BBL Venturi Carburetor was overhauled by a mechanic who worked on these cars when they were new. The C-6 automatic transmission was gutted and completely rebuilt, as was the rear differential. New springs, shocks, and rubber grommets completed the all new suspension system. New U-Joints were fitted on both ends of the drive shaft. The brakes were completely redone, including the installation of new rotors. A new Master Cylinder was installed. The entire front end suspension and steering hardware was replaced with new parts. A new radiator, heater core, and a new A/C compressor and evaporator were installed , as well as all new pumps, however the A/C could use a recharge as it does currently not blow cold. Most importantly, all vacuum lines were changed and checked for leaks. The headlamp doors work perfectly and will usually stay down for about 24 hours before they begin to creep up. On the photograph of the overhead warning lamp panel, all 4 lights illuminate and work perfectly. The first one does not shown lit because that is the SEAT BELT warning lamp and it had already timed out by the time I took the photo. The "Head Lamps" light comes on when the knob is pulled and the doors begin to retract. Once they have fully retracted, that light goes off. If it stays on, it means one of the two headlight doors failed to fully retract. There are brand new micro switches (two on each headlamp door) which actuate this circuit. All electrical items including the power antenna work. All Vacuum operated items work. The fiber optic rear tail light lamp indicators on the rear deck lid work. She has all new tires including the spare, and if memory serves, she is riding on all new rims. I installed a new battery this past week. She is probably due for an oil change and a radiator flush/fill as I haven't driven her more than 300 miles since the 2012 restoration. She rides great, has plenty of power (About 400 Horse), and handles very well for the 4,700 pound beast that she is. The radio speakers made need adjusting or the actual radio unit may need an overhaul. It works, but sometimes there is a loss of the left front speaker. The one thing on this car I have never been able to get to work right is the clock. I had the original one overhauled three times and finally replaced it and guess what? Same problem. Sorry, but they never did keep good time and why should this one be an exception? To start her, it is necessary to pull up on the parking lever. Most of these Marks worked the same way. I never adjusted the neutral start switch as this acted as a theft deterrent. She comes with both the full 1969 Mark III shop manual, and 1969 Mark III wiring diagram. She has been constantly stored in a facility with infrared heating that keeps the air at a dry 50 degrees in the winter. Everything is original and works as it should except the driver side rear quarter window does not move up or down all though the motor can be heard, my guess is the regulator is broken. This beauty even has a Cartier Clock which I was told was standard!!! I am just testing the waters at this point since I just found and bought this beatiful and precious car but am willing to sell it for the right price. For 1972, close-fitting bumpers dipped in front to allow a longer grille. At the rear, the bumper followed the rounded "spare-tire hump", continuing its lines further down. Both of these styling touches were lost in subsequent years because of Federal 5 mph (8 km/h) bumper mandates; the front in 1973, the rear in 1974. All Mark IVs were equipped with a vinyl roof. The Mark IV introduced the opera window to the Mark series, a feature that would become a Mark trademark until 1984. In 1972, it was an almost universally specified option and from 1973 onward it was standard equipment. The performance-gap between the 1972 and its later-years was significant since in 1973 compression-ratio was lowered considerably due to new changing EPA requirements, and Ford adopted a new SAE method of measuring horsepower, resulting in 212 SAE net hp. "Lincoln might be running away from these cars now, but the Mark IV was a real success story at the time. Lincoln had brought out its predecessor, the Mark III, in 1968, in response to the Cadillac Eldorado. The Mark’s Rolls-Royce grill and fake-spare-tire hump stood in stark contrast to Bill Mitchell’s creased and classy Caddy. By the early 1970s, however, the Eldorado had taken a turn, following Lincoln down the boulevard of baroque. Lincoln, meanwhile, turned up the wattage with the Mark IV for 1972, and sales jumped by nearly 80 percent over theprevious year. The Mark IV sailed past the Eldorado and outsold it every year after. The 1974 brochure humbly states: “The Continental Mark IV is one of the most desirable and most wanted personal American luxury cars of this decade.” It is indeed very much a car of its decade. The Lincoln Continental Mark IV also offered rear antilock brakes and an electric windshield defroster as standard.
