popular and recognized model. In particular, these “suicide door” convertibles have become iconic in the film industry and political arenas. 1967 was the final production year for these 4-door open land yachts and fewer than 2,300 were built. This particular example has had a remarkably uneventful history, which is a good thing. It has basically traded hands between friends and family over the past 48-years and all of them obviously loved and cared for it. It is believed that the car was sold new somewhere in the Minneapolis area. It was either sold new to the local area fire chief, or he purchased it when it was near new. He kept the car for many years and we are not exactly sure when he sold it. However, the next owner of record was another local resident who purchased the car and continued to care for it for many years. This owner then sold the car to a local friend/neighbor in 2003 who ended up being the neighbor of the current owner’s mother. Also, it turns out that this owner also grew up in the neighborhood of the original fire chief owner and believes they remember seeing it when new. The current owner lives in San Diego and when he got wind through his mom that this Continental was in her neighborhood, he had to have it. So, he ended up purchasing it in 2008 and shipping it to Southern California. Although we don’t know a lot of the early service details, it is clear that the car was always garaged and well cared-for. The previous owner (within the last 10-years) had the car stripped down to the bare metal and completely repainted its original black. Aside from that, everything else on the car is original and unrestored. It is an excellent survivor driver example and a testament to its easy life. The current owner has been in the automotive industry for years and certainly has an eye for good cars. Upon receiving the car, he set forth to preserve as much of the originality he could while also making it a great driver that could easily endure long tours. Highlights of significant services over the years include: Master cylinder replaced Engine rebuilt (within last 20k miles/15-years) Transmission recently rebuilt ($2,400 and includes local warranty) Recently, the valve covers, intake manifold, and valley covers were removed for cleaning, repainting, and gasket replacement. The engine was inspected and verified as rebuilt. The body and paint is in excellent condition. We have pics of the car when it was stripped down to the bare metal, rust removed, and repainted. The paint job is around 10-years old and looks like it was high quality work. There are minimal signs of wear. The chrome, glass, and trim all appear to be original and in remarkably good condition considering the age. There is a small dent on the front bumper (see pic), but that’s about it. The interior is very original and looks great. The rare dark green leather seats are unrestored and have some cracking. I like the originality of it and would not change a thing. The dash is very nice with just a minor crack on the speaker grill. The door panels and carpet are also in very good condition. The driver side arm rest is a bit loose, but a brand new plastic replacement is included (see pic). The soft top appears to be original. The outside, headliner, and rear glass are in nice original condition. Extensive work has gone into making sure everything works properly. All the electric windows work, including the power wing windows. Sometimes the front windows are a bit slow to go up, but they do work. The power top functions great whether it’s from the switch inside or the key slot on the rear fender. The AM radio works, as does the power antenna. The only items that don’t seem to work are the clock and the A/C. Finally, the best part about this iconic car is the way it drives. Obviously it is a huge attention grabber. For a large vehicle, it drives very well. It is incredibly smooth even at speed and tracks nicely. The transmission shifts with ease. The brakes are very responsive as well. Whether you are looking for a weekend cruiser for your local Cars & Coffee or something to do longer touring with, this would make a wonderful addition to any enthusiast’s collection. The all original white paint looks excellent and the vinyl top is near perfect with no rips! This car has the legendary 5.0l engine which runs smooth and is powerful! Paint is all original and aside from a few tiny nics here in there it's really in excellent shape for the year. It is at least a 8.5 out of 10. The body is perfectly straight and looks awesome, all panels line up incredibly well. Chrome is in excellent condition all around, no pitting or fading chrome whatsoever. This desert dweller was garaged and babied. The interior is in beautiful shape and is all original. The front seats are in beautiful shape with no rips or tears. Rear bench seat has one small split. Original carpeting is excellent. Door panels look good but drivers has a crack in corner plastic as well as passenger side. Dash is in perfect shape as well as all the chrome inside on the dash and trim! Everything inside works even the clock is ticking! AC blows ICE cold, all power windows work, radio sounds nice. This is a non smoker car with no bad smells. Mechanically, the car runs great. The 5.0 engine starts up first crank and runs smooth. The transmission shifts smooth without hard shifts. Tires are in excellent condition with well over 50% remaining all around. Has original wheels as well in great shape. She handles like a dream and suspension feels smooth. Power steering works great. The Mark V is a totally original car, including original paint, leather interior, engine, transmission, roof, carpets, all original factory stampings, inspection marks and just 89,000 miles from new, etc. It was bought from the original owner’s family in Monmouth, Oregon. It was a very rare find in this excellent, original condition. The previous owner is a large commercial farmer. I purchased it directly from his son and grandson. The owner was placed in an assisted living home. It had always been meticulously maintained, however the car hadn’t been driven for the last four years prior to me purchasing it. It was a rare, special order Mark V in Black with the White Carriage roof option (opera window delete) with full black leather interior. To my knowledge there was only one other 1979 Mark V ordered in this configuration, however, it was ordered with the less desirable velour interior. The Carriage roof was standard on the Bill Blass Designer Series. This car was a very lucky find. It is the last of the great American full sized luxury coupes. The design and proportions of the car were in my opinion, a work of art in a more modern era luxury car. It was the total refinement of the Mark III and Mark IV Continentals. There is now one in the Nethercutt Museum. I was getting very disappointed in my search. I was getting very discouraged and about to give up when I found this one under the radar. My stepson lives in Portland, so I asked him to go down to Monmouth to check it out for me. He was astonished when he saw it and persuaded me to come up immediately and buy it before someone else found out about it. He was right.The owner’s son was very nice. He let me take the car Les Schwab’s in Salem to get it checked out up on the rack. Coincidently, they had installed the existing Michelin tires on the car in 1992. When I got it home, I took it to a local carburation specialist to pull the tank and also to make sure that everything was proper in order to California smog, as it’s a 50-state car. My goal was to bring everything up to new reliability standards, as my wife would be driving the car at times. I have done all of the following documented mechanical repairs/service, and more:Full tune up, plugs, cap, rotor, timingFull C-6 trans service.3 oil & filter changes to purge out old oilComplete new brake system, including calipers, rotors, flex lines and pads. The Mark V is a totally original car, including original paint, leather interior, engine, transmission, roof, carpets, all original factory stampings, inspection marks and just 89,000 miles from new, etc. It was bought from the original owner’s family in Monmouth, Oregon. It was a very rare find in this excellent, original condition. The previous owner is a large commercial farmer. I purchased it directly from his son and grandson. The owner was placed in an assisted living home. It had always been meticulously maintained, however the car hadn’t been driven for the last four years prior to me purchasing it. It was a rare, special order Mark V in Black with the White Carriage roof option (opera window delete) with full black leather interior. To my knowledge there was only one other 1979 Mark V ordered in this configuration, however, it was ordered with the less desirable velour interior. The Carriage roof was standard on the Bill Blass Designer Series. This car was a very lucky find. It is the last of the great American full sized luxury coupes. The design and proportions of the car were in my opinion, a work of art in a more modern era luxury car. It was the total refinement of the Mark III and Mark IV Continentals. There is now one in the Nethercutt Museum. I was getting very disappointed in my search. I was getting very discouraged and about to give up when I found this one under the radar. My stepson lives in Portland, so I asked him to go down to Monmouth to check it out for me. He was astonished when he saw it and persuaded me to come up immediately and buy it before someone else found out about it. He was right.The owner’s son was very nice. He let me take the car Les Schwab’s in Salem to get it checked out up on the rack. Coincidently, they had installed the existing Michelin tires on the car in 1992. When I got it home, I took it to a local carburation specialist to pull the tank and also to make sure that everything was proper in order to California smog, as it’s a 50-state car. My goal was to bring everything up to new reliability standards, as my wife would be driving the car at times.
