1982 Jeep Scrambler already has a bunch of show trophies and magazine appearances to its credit. Even better, it has genuine rock-crawling credentials and probably drives even better than it looks no matter what the road looks like. The Scrambler is an unusual version of the legendary CJ, offering more interior space and a longer wheelbase, which pays big dividends in terms of ride quality. It also makes a big statement when you paint it Go-Mango Orange with blue and purple flames. YJ Wrangler fenders and cut-down doors were installed during the build, but the integration is seamless so you hardly even notice. The hood was punched full of louvers to help keep the warmed-over small block cool, and fat fender flares are mandatory when you’re running large-by-huge rubber. The owner is also a highly skilled paint and body man, so the finish is not only beautifully done, but it was maintained in show condition despite frequent off-road forays. Heavy-duty front and rear bumpers are mandatory on a rig like this, and the finish quality throughout is extremely impressive. Kudos to the guy for actually hitting the trails with this one! Inside, it’s actually quite comfortable and it’s clear that this one was built to drive. Modern bucket seats were fitted up front, along with a TJ folding rear bench for true 4-passenger capacity. A custom roll cage made from 2-inch DOM tubing was grafted onto the original Scrambler piece, and neatly integrates the spare tire carrier. The original dash still carries factory gauges, but there are a lot of additions to help when the going gets tough, including a tach and auxiliary gauges, as well as an AM/FM/CD stereo with glovebox-mounted amplifier. Thanks to the Scrambler’s extended wheelbase, there’s also plenty of storage out back. There’s also a full black convertible top that makes this beast even somewhat practical if you want to drive it every day—who could resist? The engine is a 1977-vintage Chevy 350 fitted with Holley Pro-Jection fuel injection system, which is ideal for off-roading because it doesn’t seem to mind extreme angles. A 3-inch stainless exhaust with Magnaflow muffler was fabricated and doesn’t compromise ground clearance. The suspension is highly modified, including a Rubicon Express YJ spring-over kit, Rancho RS-9000 shocks, all adding up to an additional 8-inches of ground clearance. The transmission is an SM465 4-speed manual feeding a Dana 44 up front and a modified Dana 60 out back, all packed with 4.10 gears and Detroit Locker differentials. The frame itself is stock, but every single system was upgraded with an eye towards unbeatable reliability when the going gets tough. Even the brakes were upgraded to discs, which shed mud and water better than drums. Bright chrome wheels enhance the flashy looks and are fitted with gigantic 37x12.50-15 Goodyear Wranglers

It's obvious from every angle that this is a custom build made to traverse territories that have never seen a vehicle before. More than just the massive ground clearance, the entire front fender section has been re-tubbed to carry enough suspension travel to overcome boulders. The rear end has even less fender restriction, so all four wheels can handle separate elevations with ease. Still not convinced? Just look at the tires. The Goodyear MT/R units are reinforced with Kevlar, so they are literally designed for bulletproof off-road performance. Still, there is some beauty in this beast. The parts that you scrape the most have been hit with an easily replaceable black paint, and as an added bonus, it makes for a nice complement to the electric blue body with Tomahawk graphic. And yes, that is a Ramsey 9500 winch mounted to the front end. Inside, everything has been customized so the driver is in complete control. There's a full set of AutoMeter gauges that provides information on the monster motor (we'll get into all those details shortly). While this is the ultimate off-road machine, there have not been any compromises. For example, the fuel cell does not intrude on the full standard Wrangler interior. Even the convertible top still fits over the full custom roll cage. Plus, within the center console is a booming Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo that's connected to enough amplified speakers to wake the whole campsite. If that wasn't enough, you can do your own broadcasting with the onboard CB and PA system.

Lots of cash went into this ultra-clean Jeep and you can see it everywhere you look. You know about black vehicles and how much attention they need before the paint goes on, and this one received it. It's one of the straightest, cleanest Jeeps we've ever featured. Not perfect, mind you, but nicer than these off-roaders usually are and clearly someone did it for love, not money. The usual Jeep trouble spots above the rear wheel arches and by the tailgate are quite good and the two-stage urethane paint looks like it should be on a much more expensive vehicle. Rubber fender extensions offer protection from the oversized tires and a "Renegade" decal package adds contrast to the otherwise all-black Jeep. Other new gear includes a chrome grille and windshield hinges, typical asymmetric side mirrors, and bright rocker panels that protect the bodywork from debris on the trail. There's also a trailer hitch for utility and that rear-mounted spare just looks butch. Bare-bones is the word inside, where fresh seat covers have been wrapped around the front buckets and rear bench. The high-back seats look sporty, especially with the roll bar hovering above them, and they're comfortable enough for a long day of fun. The floors are protected by spray-in bedliner material, so you don't have to worry about getting it dirty; just hose it out when you get home. A GM tilt steering column wears a fat steering wheel that is easy to grab and keep pointed in the right direction, even with the ground fighting you, and the gauges are all big, clear, and easy to read in the rough. A 4-speed manual transmission makes it easy to find the right gear for slogging through the rough stuff, and the 2-speed transfer case gives you enough torque to power through just about an obstacle. For entertainment, there's also an AM/FM/iPod stereo system and the heater is powerful enough to roast a Thanksgiving turkey.

These surplus Jeeps were often sold to the public (you may have seen the ads in the back of magazines like "Popular Mechanics"), but before that, they were usually cut into four pieces and fully disassembled, leaving it to the new owner to put it all back together. Well, this incredible Jeep was never cut up and was fully restored to fully functional condition, including all the equipment it offered when it was in service. Of course there's the olive drab paint job, complete with authentic markings and stencils, but there's so much more than that. The front end is equipped with headlight guards, a roll-up radiator canvas, and a tow rope around the front bumper. A correct military-grade axe hangs under the driver's door opening, joined by a shovel on the passenger's side. Out back, there a jerry can, rear-mounted spare, and a pair of whip antennas up top. Heck, just collecting all the authentic tools, hangers, and other equipment must have taken a staggering amount of time and money, never mind restoring it all to like new condition. If you served prior to the introduction of the Humvee, then you'll find this one very familiar. It's bare bones throughout, from the canvas seat cushions (complete with authentic flack jackets) to the narrow rubber-rimmed steering. The starter is still a foot pedal and you'll be amazed by how heavy-duty everything is, from the tubes feeding the windshield wiper motors to the original gauges in the center of the dash. More awesome accessories and equipment include the heavy-duty M4 pedestal mount for the 50-caliber gun (the gun itself is included, and stows in the matching trailer), the dual shortwave radios setup in back, and the ammo box between the seats. Remarkably, this Jeep also includes a full set of foul weather gear, including a canvas top and side curtains, something very rarely seen, even on restored military-spec Jeeps.

Stretching a CJ7 into a mini pickup truck was a clever idea that never quite caught on, making it rather unusual to see a Scrambler today. And what you almost never see are Scramblers restored to this level, making it almost too pretty to risk out in the rough. The bright orange paint gives it a brilliant, almost iridescent look and even with the squared-off bodywork, it's pretty slick. Underneath, the sheetmetal is in great shape with no signs of the usual tin worm issues that can plague these cool little trucklets, and it's been carefully assembled so the fit is better than you'd expect. Scrambler is spelled out on the hood, as if you needed that to know what this is, and it has accessories like chrome bumpers, a matching grille and hinges, and a spare tire hanging off the tailgate in back. The roll bar has been neatly wrapped in tailored pads and the bed itself is covered in spray-on bedliner material, so it's tough enough for anything you can fit in there. When you're heading out with all your gear, THIS is the truck that everyone's going to wish they owned.

The Golden Eagle package dressed up the CJ in great '70s fashion, with bright colors and plenty of decals, and this black and gold one looks fantastic. I wonder if the Jeep designers ever heard from the guys over at Pontiac once this Jeep hit the streets, but I suppose that was the fashion and it's a look that is suddenly very much back in demand. The glossy black paint is modern urethane so it shines up nicely after a day of playing in the dirt, and while Jeeps were never renowned for their fit and finish, this one looks great. The decals are very nicely done, accurately replicating the original look and they didn't skimp, because even the pinstripes were accurately re-created. New black rubber fender flares cover the oversized tires and it includes correct little details like side marker lights, proper Jeep taillights, and a chrome front bumper with an industrial-strength grille guard. There's a matching tubular rear bumper and a pair of diamond-plate steps that make it easy to climb into the tall Jeep cockpit.

Serving as the ultimate utilitarian vehicle, Jeeps have become one of the most recognized vehicles throughout the course of history. Since serving on the battlegrounds of World War II, the "Civilian Jeep," or CJ, like this 1980 Jeep CJ-7, has been the vehicle of choice for the enthusiast that wants to take their fun off the asphalt and onto the trails. As far as classic Jeep aesthetics, it doesn't get much better than this. This CJ is covered in black paint accented with blue Renegade graphics, giving it a nostalgic look for the era. Upfront is the highly recognizable, chrome grill that houses clear headlights and parking lamps. Below that grill is a large bumper that has plenty of room for any off road attachment you may wish to add. There is a removable hard top that comes with this CJ-7, and since it has a sunroof, you can still enjoy the sun with the top on. No Jeep is complete without a full size spare mounted out back. This one carries a big 33x12.5 General Grabber tire wrapping a 15 inch Eagle alloy wheel that matches the other four rollers. And finally, there is a gas can carrier out back if you decide to accessorize a little bit more. Inside, the black and blue theme continues with neoprene blue seats to help keep cool in the summer sun. Those buckets face a black dash that houses necessary instrumentation and an AM/FM radio, all nestled in a nice chrome insert. The interiors of Jeeps have most always been simple, and this one is no exception. There is a locking center console that is big enough to fit any loose items in for those bumpy trail rides. Everything is within easy reach, such as the 4-wheel drive range mode selector, and switches for the cold air conditioning. Behind the driver and passenger rests a two tone bench seat that matches the front buckets. And the removable doors feature blue vinyl with cranks for the manual windows. Covering the floors are rugged floor mats that are ready to catch any dirt or mud that happens to get tracked back in the Jeep. Finally, sitting on top of the tilt column is a 'Jeep' branded 3 spoke steering wheel.
