COLLECTORS and JEEP ENTHUSIASTS... History: You are looking at the very first EVER built special ordered Renegade I that was produced ONLY in 1970. Kaiser Jeep introduced this special order package to boost sales and to say the least, it worked! Kaiser Jeep took notice of customers wishes and decided to build and market a custom vehicle from the factory. Only 500 were ever produced to introduce this concept! This 1970 model is far more rare than the CJ-8 Scrambler or later edition Renegade and Laredo. It was the first customized Jeep produced by the TOLEDO factory in Ohio. This Jeep still shines and its original FACTORY PAINT and DECALS are as eye catching as it was the day it rolled off the factory line. Again, this was Jeeps attempt to customize its factory CJ5 Jeeps with decals, added gauges, chrome bumper, padded dash, heavy suspension, swing away tire carrier, and paint scheme. The factory white Kelsey-Hayes wheels look great! This Jeep has not been lifted or modified. It's as original as they come. The Jeep was only offered in TWO colors, Winner Green or Sonic Blue. As documented in a Southeast regional dealer flier, this is 1 of 500 Renegades I's ever built. In 20+ years of classic Jeep searching, I have only seen one other "lime colored winner" green Jeep documented. This color was unlike any other color Jeep produced in it's time. It caught the attention younger outdoor enthusiast buyer Jeep was trying to attract. Once this Jeep hit showroom floors, public demand was overwhelming. The next year Jeep offered the Renegade II package, followed in 1972 by the more typical-later model Renegade. In fact, Jeep just re-introduced the Jeep Renegade in 2015. Details: I located this rare gem about a year ago in North Carolina. It was purchased new at Graham Motors in Robbinsville, North Carolina. As seen in the photographs below, this Jeep still ordains its dealer decal on each side below the Factory Renegade hood decal. This Jeep is truly a time capsule. The original dated "oil change tape" is still on the interior drivers fender (see photograph). The older gentlemen who owned this Jeep bought it new and stored it in a shed beside his home. He meticulously maintained this vehicle with oil and fluid changes. He purchased new factory installed Goodyear Tracker tires for it in 1978 from his local dealer. The Jeep has been driven sparingly and used ever since (45,000 ORIGINAL MILES). For winter months, he installed an in-line fuel shutoff when he was not driving or using the vehicle. The motor runs and sounds great. The vehicle recently passed inspection and has many new front-end parts/bushings. Aftermarket gauge were installed in the early 90's. These gauges were not drilled into the dash and the new owner could easily hook up the original factory gauges if wanted. This Jeeps floorboards are amazingly solid. The green paint has been rubbed off in areas of the foot wells. This is only surface rust, (no floorboard rot or patching). The only rust to mention is a small area by the left rear tailight. This is VERY common with original CJ-5 Jeeps. It could be fixed, but I like them original! The dash has not been drilled or cut! The glovebox still has its original factory molded cardboard glove-box. All the exterior and dash lights work. Turn signals, running lights, emergency flashers, turn signal indicator, horn, and cigarette lighter function properly. The paint and decals on this Jeep are amazing! The paint is faded and thin in areas. The hood has a small area where the paint has chipped off. The windshield is original and does have a little fogging in the corners (typical with older original glass). The rear seat is original and is in great condition. The front two seats have been re-upholstered with quality outdoor black vinyl. I have documented these areas with photos. The fuel gauge is intermediate, the ascending unit and fuel tank are easily accessible (it sits right under the drivers seat). This factory location changed in 1972 due to NITSA standards. The only purchase I would make for this particular Jeep is a complete Black OEM style carpet Kit. I have purchased these period correct kits before and would be more than willing to assist the new owner locate this "hoop style" kit. I have tried to describe this Jeep as honest as possible.
