This is a Southern California 1962 Jaguar XKE roadster. Note a sampling of the vehicle registrations over the years in one of the photos. Mileage on the odometer shows just 22,995. A restored 1961 XKE roadster (in a funky brown color) just sold last week for $380,800.00 at the Keno Auction in New York. I purchased the car about 8 or so years ago with plan of making it a high performance XKE. At the time it was a good running Jaguar but I wanted a perfect car and so restoration work was begun at a local exotic car repair and restoration shop. However, the mechanic who was working on my car left and so for the last 8 years the car has (literally) been sitting on a hydraulic lift for all these years! (No exposure to moisture here!) Since I purchased the car the value of the XKE, particularly the super early cars like this one, has gone up dramatically. Such that the only logical thing to do is restore it back to OEM stock. I simply do not have the time at this point in my life to do the restoration so I am putting the car up for sale, this time with its matching number engine and the original four speed manual gearbox. Plus, my passion was for a high performance build not a stock build. But with the collectablity of these very early E-Types this car is better suited to a pure restoration. Included in the sale are thousands of dollars in new replacement parts, many of which be duplicative. E.g., the original bumpers are in good shape but i purchased another set anyway. Similarly, the door handles, etc. The wire wheels are new as well. The interior (seats, door panels, etc.) are good enough to probably use as is but if someone is restoring it they should be gone over as well. Jaguar built very few XKE roadsters in 1962. When this car was built there were only around 4,000 XKE roadsters produced globally for model years 1961 and 1962 combined. (That's an average of about 2,000 cars a year while Ferrari is producing more than 6,000 cars a year.) The engine is currently being gone through, including a valve job and upon delivery it should be ready to simply be dropped in the car. It's getting harder and harder to find these early XKEs unrestored and in solid condition like this Southern California car. This is a great winter project that will make the new happy owner a nice return on their investment. The car is sold As Is.

EXPORT, NO PROBLEM... This is a Rare, Original RUST FREE California XJ-SC in very nice low mile condition. Classic Jag has only 40K original documented one owner miles. It has been been extremely well preserved. This is a very collectible V12 XJ-SC... these cabriolet (targa top) cars were only made for 2 years with less than 2000 imported. This model is super rare, especially in this condition. Looks, runs, feels, and drives fantastic. I do not know the full history of the car... I received it in a trade, fresh out of long term storage. I had the car serviced to return it to daily driver status. Everything including AC is working properly and the car is an excellent driver. Excellent weekend cruiser or addition to any collection.... daily driver if you like while it increases in value... :) A true head turner and a blast to drive. Body is super straight with no collision damage that I can see. It is 100% rust free!! Fit and finish are excellent. Paint presents beautifully with minor blemishes. Top is new and it retains it's original tanau cover for the top when down. Interior is Excellent as well. Seats, Panels, carpet and headliner all look great... Gauges and electronics work properly including the clock!! Cold AC!! Retains the original storage bag for the targa tops and cover for the spare in the trunk. V12 Motor starts, runs, and idles excellent... Super responsive and nicely tuned. Trans shifts smooth through the gears. Freshly serviced. Suspension feels tight and handles excellent. Goes down the road straight with no wiggles, shimmies, or shakes... Stops straight and sure. EXCELLENT, FAST driver. Overall this is a Super nice rare classic Jag in beautiful original condition all around... Awesome weekend cruiser, show car, or addition to any collection. New cranberry red canvas top. New aluminum radiator. New Wilwood four piston aluminum caliper brakes with aluminum hats. Aluminum differential cover. Etc. I purchased an additional set of front and rear bumpers and still retain the original bumpers (which I'd re-chrome and use if I keep the car). The plan was /is to make this car look like a series one on the outside and inside, albeit with a lot more visual pop thanks to the stunning yet classic silver-blue exterior / red leather interior. But under the skin there would be an improvement unlike anything anyone else has done (as far as I know). A few years back I was impressed by a beautifully modified 1958 Corvette at an auction. It ended up selling for several times what a nicely restored example would have sold for! Its going to be in an auction this month and estimates are it will sell for $250-$350k....for a '58 Corvette. Under its classic 1950s hood was a modern, reliable, efficient, powerful powerplant, upgraded brakes and suspension. I wanted something like this. I was looking for something different than the version produced by Beecham in New Zealand and I wanted something less pricey be equally rapid, if not more so, than the Eagle E-type (which costs about $1,000,000!). So I decided I would make the ultimate E-type. The last straight six designed by Jaguar before Ford took over was the all-aluminum four valve per cylinder XJR motor. According to my information it weighs 349 pounds complete (so says the shipping invoice), more than 200 pounds lighter than the XK boat anchor which weighs in at nearly 600 pounds! The XK motor was a great motor....in the 1950s when it was originally designed. But even by the time of the E many back then would argue it was getting long in the tooth. (After all, while the D type won LeMans how many Le Mans wins does the E have?) According to In The Jaguar Scrapbook, marque historian Philip Porter published a list of weights of various Coventry powerplants "as installed on testbed." These were taken minus fan, air cleaner, clutch, and transmission, and without any fluids, but with flywheel, electrical equipment, and exhaust manifolds. The 3.8 came to 592 pounds! The 4.2, which had the redesigned block with different bore spacings, scaled 605! And the 5.3-liter V-12? A mere seven pounds heftier, at 612! There's a reason people described these Jaguar motors as boat anchors. By comparison a Ferrari V12, with twice as many pistons, rods, etc., weighs over 100 pounds less. Jaguar realized there was a weight problem which they tried to fix by producing the XKE race cars ("lightweights") with all aluminum motors featuring special aluminum engine blocks. Also, while Jaguar back in the sixties rated the XKE motor at 265 hp most report the number is far closer to 220. The significantly lighter XJR motor stock makes over 320 hp and tuned around 400 hp. It is also reliable, uses coil on plug ignition and modern fuel injection. So I purchased a super low mileage XJR motor and had it shipped from England to Los Angeles. I also purchased a Getrag 5 speed transmission as originally fit by Jaguar to the XJ in Europe. A custom aluminum flywheel and performance clutch was prepared and the entire assembly installed in the XKE. Which is pretty much where things stand now. The motor is in the car but the restoration needs completion. Prior to taking the car apart the car was a fine running XKE but it was decades old and in need of renewing. Properly finished the E-type will be stunning to look at but also unique, fast, reliable, fuel efficient and all Jaguar....the classic E with the last true evolution of the straight six Jaguar motor. It's a project but an extremely fun and worthwhile one with a finished product that will command top dollar as it will be distinct from the other 75,000 E-types. I don't "need" to sell this E. As I've owned it for 11 or so years now. However, it is important to bear in mind that this vehicle is pre-owned and not in new condition. If you are the lucky winner of this auction, you will be extremely pleased. Our cars are always in great shape and attract a lot of attention on the road, so much attention; they rarely make it to eBay due to sales through informal offers. We regard our reputation very highly and customer satisfaction is our paramount concern. Therefore, we take pride in all our transactions and value every person who visits our auctions. We are extremely selective in the automobiles we purchase. We invest a lot of time to locate automobiles around the nation which are in pristine condition, of paramount quality, and which are of the most sought after models. In addition, the automobiles we restore ourselves are done with high quality materials and professional care. Payment and Deposit We require that you contact the Seller within twenty-four (24) hours, one (1) day, of this auction closing. A non-refundable deposit of ten percent (10%) is due within forty-eight (48) hours, two (2) days, of this auction closing and can only be paid to Seller by Cash (in person), Cashier's Check, Money Order, or some other form of certified transfer in US dollars. Full payment of the final price is due within seven (7) days of this auction closing and can only be paid to Beverly Hills Car Club by Cash (in person), Cashier's Check, Money Order or certified funds in US dollars. Please be advised that you are responsible for all fees associated with the purchase of the Automobile including but not limited to taxes and registration. Once full payment is received, the Seller will provide clear title, Bill of Sale and additional Department of Motor Vehicle forms to you for signature. The forms must be completed before the Automobile is shipped or made available to you. Due to the high cost of selling these automobiles, any failure to pay the deposit or final price of the auction within the time noted above will result in full action through eBay and legal action though state and federal law pursuant to this contract. As an added value we will assist with any shipping arrangements. Regardless, you are responsible for all delivery costs and arrangements or picking up the Automobile. If the Automobile is not picked up by you or your designated delivery service agent or driver, the Seller will charge a fee of thirty dollars ($30) a day after two (2) weeks of the auction closing for everyday the Automobile is not picked up. We require that you be of the age of 18 to bid. The Seller does not provide financing and reserves the right to end the auction early for any reason.
