1998 Mugen Honda Prelude 1998 HONDA PRELUDE This amazing custom Prelude has been completely modified to be any Honda enthuiast dream! The prelude has over $55,000 in modifications, paint, labor, and parts. The Prelude has less than 40,000 miles on the chassis and motor The car was originally an automatic, swapped to a manual transmission performed by Speed Factory in 2002. The cars stock paint was the Eucalyptus Green, which was then painted Lamborginis Grigio Avalon by Star Autohaus located in California. The paint job alone was $6,000. With paint supplies alone adding to over $2,000. There's nearly 11 coats of clear on the roof, full wet sanded finish. This car was also the prototype of the Hytech System consisting of the 4-2-1 Header, Hytech fabricated 2.5" exhaust with Renault Catalytic Converter. She was tuned by Hondata and Church's Automotive. She was also the first to recieve a MacClean Carbon Fiber Sunroof plug/panel, maybe even the only one. She truly is the first of her kind. There are plenty of one of a kind parts on this car, take a glance at the photos and you will know just how amazing this car is. A transmission swap was performed by Speed Factory in the year 2002. The car has been converted to run with a P28 OBDI ecu. The car came from the factory with an OBDII ecu. It runs using the Hondata S200b management, which requires an OBDI ecu. I have never had a problem passing emissions. Church's Automotive conservatively tuned the prelude to run safely on 91 Octane The trunk is missing the paper, composite, and plastic liner due to the added weight. Maintenance As this car was built for all intentions to be a show vehicle it has been rarely driven. Less than 1000 miles have been added to the vehicle in the last 2 years. Oil changes are performed monthly regardless of the car being driven. Dekuyper We won't deny it. Our industry is a boy's world: Women are objectified, "what's grosser than gross?" jokes run rampant, and talk about getting laid is a necessity, not an option. Since we were kids, we've been conditioned to play with cars, look up girls' skirts, and play with G.I. Joe, not Barbie. Of course, this is a societal flaw that we'll leave to sociologists and bedwetting pro-feminists to explore. But it doesn't change the fact that we are, in other words, a bunch of jackasses. So when a woman starts crossing worlds and getting the underside of her fingernails dirty, we tend to take notice. Take Danica Patrick, Jonathan Wong, and this month's Final Call alumnus, Carol Mak, as examples. Danica is taking over the IRL (and receiving unnecessary heat for it), Jonathan is beginning to hide her ovaries (see Project 2Fizzle in this issue), and Carol is a more certified tuner than perhaps 90 percent of our readers (and staffers - JN) with her '98 supercharged Honda Prelude. All of them done crossed the line and, damnit, good for them. So before we talk more about Carol's Prelude, let's get the essentials out of the way: 1. Jessica Alba has the nicest set of tiddies we've ever seen. 2. Jessica Alba looks hotter as a blonde than a brunette. 3. We'd give our left nuts to smell everything pink from Jessica Alba's body. Rawr! Now back to our regularly scheduled program. Carol purchased her Prelude over five years ago. It was the first ride to validate her driver's license, and it was the car that motivated her to start modifying. "When I first got the Prelude, I started off small with rims and a body kit," explains Carol, "Then I really got into the scene and took it as a hobby that eventually turned into a passion." This process of transforming her Prelude into a show- and race-ready vehicle also led her to pursuing a degree in Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona (Please don't start stalking her. Leave that to experts like us). The car was originally an automatic. The post-op tranny change to manual was owed to the addition of the Jackson Racing supercharger. Once Carol added the charger, she was faced with problems like finding a good EMS to work with the automatic ECU, so she contacted Speed Factory in La Puente, California, to help swap the girlie automatic out. The switch also paved the way for other mods like an ACT 6-puck clutch, JUN flywheel, and KAAZ 1.5-way LSD. All of which gets the H22 engine to transfer power correctly. Under the hood, Carol added the Jackson Racing supercharger to provide power in the low end, helping the car run a dyno-proven 250 hp at 6,500 rpm. While the charger is streaming 9 lbs. of boost, a set of 550cc RC Engineering fuel injectors and an AEM fuel rail work on the fuel delivery. The gases formed from the combination of air and fuel is all directed to the Hytech full exhaust system, from headers to catalytic converter to the exhaust pipes. She even added some JDM soul to the powerplant with a Mugen fan switch, Cusco oil catch run, and some Mugen beautifying goodies. It's H22 mayhem at its finest. Making sure the Prelude hits its marks on the road and track, Carol added a set of JIC FLT-A2 coilovers, lowering the front 1.75 inches and the rear 1.5 inches. She also used a 25mm Suspension Techniques front stabilizer bar and 27mm Progress rear stabilizer bar with adjustable endlinks to prevent the chassis from swaying. All of which work closely with the high-quality 17x7-inch Mugen MF10 mirror-face wheels, gift wrapped with rice-sticky Bridgestone S0-3 tires. To help stop the MF10s from rolling, a set of hybrid brake setups (NSX calipers with Spoon slotted rotors in the front and stock calipers with Rotora slotted rotors in the rear) use their clamping power to stop on the dime. After all, Carol wouldn't want to see her Mugen (the real deal, not fake crap) body kit wrapped around a pole or anything. As beautiful as the engine bay is, the exterior styling is the first thing that catches your attention so it's important to keep it so fresh and so clean. Along with the Mugen body kit, Carol added a VIS rear wing, Spoon convex side mirrors, carbon fiber eyelids, and ARC canards. The one thing that you might not notice, however, is the carbon fiber moonroof plug. Carol pulled out the factory moonroof and plugged it with sweet carbon fiber-a subtle addition that will score points from the judges. That is, of course, if they haven't already given her points for the Bride coated interior. From the door inserts to the seats to the butt-freakin' upholstery, Carol made sure the interior was decked out in JDM. That's where you'll also spot the Takata 4-point harnesses, JDM Type-S gauge cluster, JDM "Prelude"-stamped doorsills, and Mugen FG360 with center pad steering wheel. So before we sign off and give you another lame outroduction, let's point out that this Prelude didn't make it into Super Street because a woman owns it. The car is fantabulous by its own merit, and it's shame the majority of you can't step up like Carol. In fact, it's a shame none of the Super Street staff can step it up either. Now that we think about it, we all pretty much suck. Top 5 Women We've always had a thing for women athletes. For some reason, women who play sports or who are into the same things we are really turn us on. So we compiled a list of women in sports that we'd like to pork: 1. Amanda Beard, swimmer: Really hot and she does a pretty good breaststroke. 2. Lisa Kubo, drag racer: Just because she knows the difference between a clutch and brake pedal-unlike us. 3. Lisa Leslie, basketball player: The first woman to dunk and though she looks like an Afghan Hound, she can teach us how to dribble. 4. Greg Louganis, Olympic diver: She can somersault like nobody's business. 5. Serena Williams, tennis player: She has more muscles in her right arm than we do in our entire body. For sale, 1997 Honda Prelude SH. 5 speed manual with 172k miles on the body and roughly 75k miles on a newer engine. 98% stock vehicle, HID headlights and clear fog lights. Oil changed every 3k miles. Car drives like new, straight wheels within spec, clutch is super responsive and shifts with zero issues. Stock radio/CD player, stock speakers, stock everything save for the HID kit headlights. Sounds like a normal car, not tricked out with exhaust or anything like that. I'd say 80% highway miles since I've owned the car. Clean title; I'd say overall condition is good to very good considering the age and work done. Most of the exterior stuff that is listed above will be handled via detailing. I'm planning on replacing the windshield prior to sale completion. VIN: JHMBB6156VC011864Recent (since February 2014) work done:-New immobilizer unit + master key @156k-Alternator completely replaced @ 164k-New power steering line assembly @165k-Ignition assembly was repaired @165k-New Falken Ziex ZE612+ tires @167k-New clutch kit installed @157k-Replaced the original engine (thrown rod through engine block) with a newer used engine @157k.
