An 85-horsepower, 1.3-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine serving as the primary power source with auxiliary power from the 13-hp electric motor. The batteries (power unit behind the rear seats) never need to be connected to a power outlet because they’re recharged while driving. A regenerative braking system comes into play and provides recharging power to the batteries. Compared to the gasoline powered Civic, several exterior revisions give the Civic Hybrid a distinctive look. The front fascia differs considerably, a rear spoiler is installed, the taillights are different, and alloy wheels are unique to this model. On the interior there is chrome trim around the main gauges that are a cool electric blue and gauges that tell you when the electric motor is assisting and when recharging is taking place, not that you really need to know. All in all, other than not having to stop for gas often, the most surprising thing that you'll notice about the Civic Hybrid is what you don't notice.
