The Classic Car Gallery 3266 Post Rd Southport, CT 06890 203 256 9800 1981 Porsche 928 “20,500 miles, 5-speed, time capsule” VIN WP0JA0925BS820474 The Porsche 928 was developed in the late 1970’s as the flagship and the heir to the throne of the of the Porsche dynasty. With a 4.5 liter front mounted V-8, the car was a startling departure from its earlier rear engined siblings. These cars exuded quality, from the amazing engineering to the sublime handling and performance; in its day, there was nothing that could compete with the 928 as an autobahn cruiser. These cars are fast appreciating, and are sure to be in the next generation of collector cars. This 20,500 mile, one owner car checks all of the boxes for collectibility. The car left the Porsche factory on September 11, 1981 and was delivered to Rexcoat Porsche Audi of Illinois. Driven only 20,500 miles, she remains in time capsule condition. The Chiffon White paint is gorgeous, with only the occasional chip. The interior is original with the exception of the radio. The Beige leather is soft and supple with almost no wear and the carpets and headliner are likewise in wonderful condition. The 4.5 liter aluminum engine starts and runs well with good horsepower and torque. The 5-speed manual shifts well and the clutch engages with authority. The car has been well maintained; the timing belt and water pump were replaced in 2013 and has gone less than 500 miles since. New tires were installed at the time and the original Teledial wheels were refinished. The suspension and steering are tight and the car handles well. All systems function as they should with the exception of the clock. The radio is not original, and currently has a Blaupunkt of correct vintage. The car comes with its original tool kit, jack, spare tire, manuals, original window sticker and purchase documentation. In addition, the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, service records, Porsche keys, original new owner card and a clean and clear title comes with the car. Although we have no records or documentation on the restoration the quality is self evident and this car would easily be a local show winner. The blue paint has great luster and and shine and the panel gaps are consistent around the car. All chrome has clearly been restored, and shines brightly; all seals and weather stripping around the car are new and fresh. The glass is excellent and the vinyl convertible top is clearly new. New carpets were fitted throughout and new covers fitted on all of the seats, door cards and throughout the interior. All four corners have “Rally” style wheels wrapped in fresh BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial “Redline” tires with nearly 100% tread life remaining. The engine bay has been detailed and shows well with good attention to detail. The factory hood mounted tachometer was a rare option back in ‘69 and is fully functional. Some practical, modern upgrades were added, including a Hurst shifter, Autometer oil pressure and water temperature gauges and a Sirius radio integrated into the factory AM radio.
