Tasca was one of the best known & largest driving forces behind the development of the famous 428 Cobra Jet engine. When the transition to the 429 came they lead the way too. They special ordered stripper versions like this car. The only options being the Drag-Pack, F70X 14 White Sidewall Tires and an AM radio. This was really as light as you could get a Torino with the exception of the radio. They also avoided the Shaker Ram Air and the Cobra options that would have been a dead give away to high performance car. This was basically a big bad wolf in sheep’s clothing. This GT has of course been repainted in what appears to be a rare & very cool Ford color from 1987, Dark Shadow Blue. The paint has imperfections you would expect from an older paint job, but still presents well. Easily nice enough to cruise around with your head held high in this Super Rare Drag-Pack. The panels line up well and the addition of the Shaker Ram Air Induction is really cool too. This is a very solid body with minimal rust for the breed. There are a couple minor bubbles in the front door corners and rear quarters but overall much nicer than most. The structure of the car is quite good. The frame rails are in good condition and upon close inspection inside them you can still see the galvanizing. The Factory Black Bench Seat Interior presents well. Again, this was the truest sign of a sleeper. Just a bench seat, no console. The carpet was just replaced with a new reproduction kit. The seat upholstery shows minor wear with no obvious separations or damage. The door panels look good and again show only minor wear. The dash pad does have the normal crack but overall it is quite forgivable with the cars age. Under the hood the original SCJ engine has been replaced with a 2-Bolt Main 429 CJ with the correct D0OE-R Cylinder Heads, Exhaust Manifolds and CJ Intake Manifold. It is reported to have low miles on the restoration though we do not have any receipts on the build. It runs strong though and will easily defend its heritage. A factory Shaker Ram Air System has been added and no matter if it is original to the car or not, it looks cool and does add some horsepower in the real world giving the Big Block an unlimited supply of cool air to breath. The 4-Speed Transmission was just professionally rebuilt and it wears the rare RUG AU1 tag code which calls out for a 70 Torino 429 Close Ratio with 31-Spline Output. The Hurst shifter works nicely with crisp engagement. It works well and can certainly stand up to the abuse. The 3.91 Traction-Lock Differential is still in place, housed in the ultra rare ‘N’ Case Nodular 9” Differential with 31 Spline Axles. This is bar none, the most copied and reproduced differential made. So if you are in the market for a Real Deal Muscle Car, one with fire breathing Big Block Drag Pack Power, this is quite possibly the car. Not only does it pack the fire power, you need to consider the upside of this car. Being one of only 125 TOTAL SCJ 4-Speed cars, not to mention that this is GT, not the Cobra, it is VERY likely a 1 of 1 car. Only 125 N-Code Big Block Convertibles were made. This combination of options would likely make this a one of one car. The Marti Report confirms that this was also a Special Production Car with the special build date of 4th of July. Ford gave this production date to all of its ‘Special Order Cars’ to make clear that it was not a standard order car as the factory was not open on the fourth. These 4th of July cars have special significance as they are typically highly optioned and have very low VIN #’s. This car in particular is the 39th car to be completed in the Lorain plant for the 1970 model year. This is one of the first Big Block Torino Convertibles Produced. This car has an impressive 16 options beyond the 429 engine option! When you look for an investment car, this is what you want.This car started out life in this same color configuration you see today, Medium Blue Metallic Paint, White Convertible Top with a White Turin Knit Bucket Seat Interior. It has seen a repaint in the factory color that is many years old with numerous scratches & imperfections. The body itself is overall a great restoration candidate that has some rust in the quarters along the wheel lips and at the bottoms. The doors have some bubbles in the corners. The trunk floor looks to be in very good condition with nice crisp seems and factory paint. We have extensive photos of the undercarriage and body. If there is something specific you feel we have missed please let us know and we can get it for you. This is a very rare car and one of the few cars that has a resale value and investment potential to support a restoration quality repaint.The highly desirable White Turin Knit Bucket Seat Interior has a Factory Floor Console. Tasteful options like Power Windows, Electric Clock & Intermittent Wipers were likely optioned to show off the option groups available. The front seats have been re-upholstered in the correct reproduction materials and a new molded carpet kit installed. The front door panels were replaced with 71 units that cleaned up nicely. The dash had been recovered at some point and looks nice. There is still some cleaning & restoration work to be done on the interior.The 429 Big Block fires up easily and appears to have low miles on the reported performance rebuild. On start up you can hear the 429 Cobra Jet style Forged Pistons until they warm up and then the engine settles into a nice mild lope from the larger than stock camshaft. The engine has also had a High Quality Balance job done the reciprocating assembly. The engine is glassy smooth at RPM. We have searched the engine for the VIN stamping without finding any VIN’s. It is a C9 block, as would be expected in an early car. Research has shown the C9 blocks were used in the August produced cars backing this up. Many of the Pre-Production cars did not receive the engine stampings that normal production cars did. Since the date codes on the 429’s are in the cam valley under the intake we have not matched the date codes. This engine has great power and easily spins the tires when asked. The C6 automatic Transmission works nicely as well and produced a good chirp or prodigious wheel spin on the 1 to 2 up-shift depending on the throttle.The Hide-Away-Headlight option has been added to this car and is not fully complete. Most of the parts are there, but the driver’s headlight grill, vacuum switch and linkage will need to be sourced. This is a highly desirable option that has been added.The car drives well and we had it on some short local drives (5-10 miles) where it has behaved well. The steering feels good and the car functions properly. The fluids all check out and it starts easily when cold and warm. This could be a great drive it while you restore. Realistically this car should support the high end restoration costs with the investment value at the end. Also the bragging rights to owning what is one of the first Big Block Convertibles is something to consider. 31-Spline 3.00 Traction-Lok Differential This is an extremely rare car. Only 125 N-Code Big Block Convertibles were made. This combination of options would likely make this a one of one car. The Marti Report confirms that this was also a Special Production Car with the special build date of 4th of July. Ford gave this production date to all of its ‘Special Order Cars’ to make clear that it was not a standard order car as the factory was not open on the fourth. These 4th of July cars have special significance as they are typically highly optioned and have very low VIN #’s. This car in particular is the 39th car to be completed in the Lorain plant for the 1970 model year. This is one of the first Big Block Torino Convertibles Produced. This car has an impressive 16 options beyond the 429 engine option! When you look for an investment car, this is what you want. This car started out life in this same color configuration you see today, Medium Blue Metallic Paint, White Convertible Top with a White Turin Knit Bucket Seat Interior. It has seen a repaint in the factory color that is many years old with numerous scratches & imperfections. The body itself is overall a great restoration candidate that has some rust in the quarters along the wheel lips and at the bottoms. The doors have some bubbles in the corners. The trunk floor looks to be in very good condition with nice crisp seems and factory paint. We have extensive photos of the undercarriage and body. If there is something specific you feel we have missed please let us know and we can get it for you. This is a very rare car and one of the few cars that has a resale value and investment potential to support a restoration quality repaint. The highly desirable White Turin Knit Bucket Seat Interior has a Factory Floor Console. Tasteful options like Power Windows, Electric Clock & Intermittent Wipers were likely optioned to show off the option groups available. The front seats have been re-upholstered in the correct reproduction materials and a new molded carpet kit installed. The front door panels were replaced with 71 units that cleaned up nicely. The dash had been recovered at some point and looks nice. There is still some cleaning & restoration work to be done on the interior. The 429 Big Block fires up easily and appears to have low miles on the reported performance rebuild. On start up you can hear the 429 Cobra Jet style Forged Pistons until they warm up and then the engine settles into a nice mild lope from the larger than stock camshaft. The engine has also had a High Quality Balance job done the reciprocating assembly. The engine is glassy smooth at RPM. We have searched the engine for the VIN stamping without finding any VIN’s. It is a C9 block, as would be expected in an early car. Research has shown the C9 blocks were used in the August produced cars backing this up. Many of the Pre-Production cars did not receive the engine stampings that normal production cars did. Since the date codes on the 429’s are in the cam valley under the intake we have not matched the date codes. This engine has great power and easily spins the tires when asked. The C6 automatic Transmission works nicely as well and produced a good chirp or prodigious wheel spin on the 1 to 2 up-shift depending on the throttle. The Hide-Away-Headlight option has been added to this car and is not fully complete. Most of the parts are there, but the driver’s headlight grill, vacuum switch and linkage will need to be sourced. This is a highly desirable option that has been added. The car drives well and we had it on some short local drives (5-10 miles) where it has behaved well. The steering feels good and the car functions properly. The fluids all check out and it starts easily when cold and warm. This could be a great drive it while you restore. Realistically this car should support the high end restoration costs with the investment value at the end. There are the normal stone chips and imperfections from some street use. The car still presents very well with a nice deep shine. If you are after a nice sunny day driver, this is a great candidate. If you want an indoor show car, this one will need a repaint. The body panels appear to be original and rust free. The floor pans are original and appear to be in excellent condition. The frame rails are very good and do not have the typical damage from misplaced jack stands or off-road adventures. I see no obvious signs of any prior accident damage. This appears to be a very honest example.The interior is in great condition. The factory bucket seats are still quite comfortable with nice, correct seat upholstery. The carpets are nice with what appears to be limited use on a reproduction carpet kit. The dash is still supple and houses the functioning factory tachometer. The interior shows very nicely with a couple of upgrades like the factory AM/FM stereo and a set of aftermarket gauges under the dash to keep tabs on the big CJ power mill under the hood. The original 428 Cobra Jet runs excellent and wears it correct dressings like the CJ specific ‘N’ heads, CJ exhaust manifolds, 735 cfm Holley Carburetor, Q-Code Air Cleaner and more. The car still looks quite stock under the hood and runs much like it did back in ’69. The C6 automatic wears the rare CJ specific cast iron tail-shaft housing. Due to its positioning in the car I can’t verify the numbers matching of the transmission. It has obviously been rebuilt and a shift kit added so the shifts are positive & firm but not abusive.The Original Air Conditioning is complete and appears to be functional. It was 39 degrees this morning so my tests didn’t reveal much as to the performance. We will be checking the charge and performing a full service to assure that it works properly for the new owner.The rear differential is the correct early Nodular case without the visible N on the outside of the case. This car was produced in September of 68 before the N was cast on the outside. This is the correct 31-Spline unit with the double drilled axles. The gears are the 3.00’s with a Traction-Lok differential. The factory tag is still in place.This Cobra sports the Chromed Styled Steel Wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s. Numbers Matching 428 Cobra Jet The body is in good condition with an older repaint. There are the normal stone chips and imperfections from some street use. The car still presents very well with a nice deep shine. If you are after a nice sunny day driver, this is a great candidate. If you want an indoor show car, this one will need a repaint. The body panels appear to be original and rust free. The floor pans are original and appear to be in excellent condition. The frame rails are very good and do not have the typical damage from misplaced jack stands or off-road adventures. I see no obvious signs of any prior accident damage. This appears to be a very honest example.The interior is in great condition. The factory bucket seats are still quite comfortable with nice, correct seat upholstery. The carpets are nice with what appears to be limited use on a reproduction carpet kit. The dash is still supple and houses the functioning factory tachometer. The interior shows very nicely with a couple of upgrades like the factory AM/FM stereo and a set of aftermarket gauges under the dash to keep tabs on the big CJ power mill under the hood. The original 428 Cobra Jet runs excellent and wears it correct dressings like the CJ specific ‘N’ heads, CJ exhaust manifolds, 735 cfm Holley Carburetor, Q-Code Air Cleaner and more. The car still looks quite stock under the hood and runs much like it did back in ’69. The C6 automatic wears the rare CJ specific cast iron tail-shaft housing. Due to its positioning in the car I can’t verify the numbers matching of the transmission. It has obviously been rebuilt and a shift kit added so the shifts are positive & firm but not abusive.The Original Air Conditioning is complete and appears to be functional. It was 39 degrees this morning so my tests didn’t reveal much as to the performance. We will be checking the charge and performing a full service to assure that it works properly for the new owner.The rear differential is the correct early Nodular case without the visible N on the outside of the case. This car was produced in September of 68 before the N was cast on the outside. This is the correct 31-Spline unit with the double drilled axles. The gears are the 3.00’s with a Traction-Lok differential. The factory tag is still in place.This Cobra sports the Chromed Styled Steel Wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s. They are a nice factory upgrade over the painted wheels.
