This is a rare, heavily optioned car. Original factory options include: Air Conditioning, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Power Drivers Seat, and Cruise Control. It is hard to believe that there was actual cruise control in 1964. All cruise control parts are present and restored, some are NOS. In 2010 this car was extensively restored, garage kept and driven very little since then. The car is painted in stunning medium Blue Metallic paint, excellent attention to detail is evident in often overlooked places like the door jambs. A fiberglass tonneau cover was added and painted to match. The car is it's own rolling car show.New interior including carpet and door panels, correct Ford white color tone. The convertible top frame was repainted, new pads and correct top, new lines, cylinders, switches, and relays. NOS parts used when available. A secondary switch for the top mechanism was added under the fuel door, to allow for raising and lowering the deck lid and top while standing at the rear deck. The attention to detail is self evident. Several dash and console pieces also re-chromed as well. The grill bars on these cars are usually dinged or bent, and are hard to refinish. I was able to find a NOS replacement grill, which looks outstanding! In 1966, Ford added the 345 horsepower 428 engine as an option. That sounded like a great idea, so the original 390 was replaced with a strong running stock Ford 428 Police Interceptor (same engine used for the Shelby GT 500) with the original factory aluminum intake manifold (1967 date code). The heads were completely reworked, but the bottom end of the engine was not opened, as it was running strong, it has factory TBird exhaust manifolds. In order to allow for the factory Thunderbird valve covers, the oil fill is located behind the air cleaner. The engine compartment was taken to bare metal, paint matched, and is very clean and detailed. The original Thunderbird air cleaner and valve covers were chrome plated. The Factory AC compressor was replaced with a newer style unit, the alternator is a high amperage unit and is chrome plated as well. Other under-hood parts and supports are painted gloss black. A battery disconnect was added since the car is not driven frequently. The better accommodate the 428 engine, the cruise-o-matic transmission was replaced with an NOS Ford C6 unit, which while unused, was opened and overhauled. The factory drum brakes were changed to 4-Wheels Disc which work great. The tasteful looking master cylinder can be seen under the hood. To increase stability and drivability, a custom rear anti-sway bar was added. The front anti-sway bar was replaced with a larger one. The gas tank is new along with the fuel lines. The factory convertible-specific underbody support braces are still present. The rear axle and differential were powder coated black, as were all four wheels. The undercarriage is clean and has factory correct undercoating. The power retractable antenna was an option starting in 1965. A 1965 power antenna and correct under dash console were added.The car came with only front seat belts, but correct rear seat belts were added. There was a drivers side rear view mirror, and a NOS passenger side mirror was added. The power windows function well, switches and motors were replaced. Numerous photos are included to show the condition, and a link to a video is posted as well. There are a few small scratches and chips, consistent with usage. This car is beautiful, but is an antique, and as with all old cars it could develop mechanical issues at any time. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. Your bid is a contract to own this car. This car has been in storage and covered up for 39 years in the Pacific Northwest and was just uncovered a few months ago with 91,000 miles and is ready for sale. You are looking at an excellent driver, not a show car! This car has always been garage kept. This car DOES have a power seat, telescoping steering wheel, power windows and power steering that all work, and does not have a hard top. In the last 6 months this car has had many upkeep items and service to get the car running again after a 39 year sleep. Many items are brand new or refurbished. The paint is black lacquer that was applied 41 years ago along with a new seat cover and convertible top. It is missing the radio as well but you would most likely change this any way. Brand new parts include new clutch and pressure plate with new throw out bearing. The flywheel was also resurfaced and the 3 speed transmission received new gaskets to repair some leaking while it was out. We also installed new u joints while we had everything out and apart. The differential gasket was changed along with fresh fluids in every part of the car. The oil filter was converted to a spin on filter and we have the old cylinder filter as well. This 3 speed has over drive but it is not working. We installed the following NEW PARTS: Belts, spark plugs, points, rotor, condenser, distributor cap, plug wires with holders, oil cap, gas cap, water pump, thermostat, tires, brakes, master cylinder, brake cylinders, brake lines, transmission boot, coil, value cover gaskets, battery, heater control value, heater duct gaskets, step plates, exhaust manifold gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, air cleaner cork, wiper blade arms and blades, outside mirror, electronic turn signal, new trunk matts and side broads. We also added new tail light and parking light lenses as well. We have over $3,000 in just parts with all receipts and this does NOT include any labor. We pulled the gas tank, radiator and heater core and had all of them rotted out and all pressure checked. Too many new nut, bolts, washers and gaskets to mention. There does not appear to be any leaks in this car today after all of the repairs. The car starts runs and drives great just like a 1955 Bird should. Car can be shown locally by appointment.
